I was watching highlights of Thomas Robinson in light of the news that the Rockets were making him available for essentially nothing and turned off youtube after just a few minutes because of one of my biggest pet peeves. I can not stand when announcers make terrible nicknames by combining the player's first and last names. T-Rob is not a nickname. Where are the announcers that come up with "The-Round-Mound-of-Rebound" or "The Glove". If it wasn't for Chris Berman occasionally throwing out gems like "Joel Przybilla the Vanilla Gorilla" the art of creative nicknames would be gone. I miss "The Truth", and "The Answer", "The Big Ticket", "The Big Fundamental", and all of Shaq's names and I blame T-Mac. Ever since Tracy McGrady's hey day, people have been fine with just pushing together first and last names. I just think it is so cool how I never named a single player, but you recognize all of them. We need nicknames! I think that the era we live in now, where athletes are more accessible than ever should be the Golden Age of fantastic nicknames. What do you guy's think? Is there hope? Have you heard any outstanding nicknames for players today? When "The Black Mamba" retires, is he taking great nicknames with him?
