Okay, this is my first FanPost and I'm afraid I don't really have anything deep or profound to say, just a thought I'd toss out there to be picked apart by my fellow BullZards/Wizlets fans.
Due to their strong finish during the second half of the season, the Wizards messed around and started winning games and lowering the number of ping pong balls in the upcoming Draft Lottery. I'm kidding a bit in that I'd rather just see the team continue to learn how to win and gain the confidence and experience that comes with it than lose 9 times out of 10. However, given that the roster still leaves a lot to be desired, another top three pick in the upcoming draft would have been pretty flippin' sweet. I don't care if this draft is as "strong" as previous drafts -- I mean how can you really know beforehand anyway? -- a top three pick still has value to a young and developing team.
As mentioned above, winning games meant less ping pong balls but it is a "lottery" after all and stranger things have happened. If, by chance, the Wizards jump up into the number one spot again, I think the questions of keeping the pick or trading it will be squashed.
Well, not completely squashed.
I say not completely because like many on this board, I look at Georgetown's Otto Porter as a very nice complementary piece to the ball movement and defensive oriented direction the team has been moving towards. Yet, Porter is not projected to be the number one pick. You never know, maybe he blows away teams in the pre-draft workouts. Either way, let's just say he remains the projected third or fourth prospect that he has been.
Would the Wizards be better off taking Nerlens Noel and just being happy with that OR should they take Porter number and just say he's their guy OR should they take Noel and offer him to the first team to draft Porter? I actually like Noel for this team too but am a bigger believer in all the versatility and experience of Otto Porter. That said, I personally would lean towards option three. If only because there may be a team so desperate for Noel that they might be willing to take Vesely off the Wizards' hands and/or the Wiz could land a future pick or another prospect.
Of course none of this matters right now as the ping pong balls haven't even been selected but, well, as we sit here watching the playoffs yet again...counting down the days to the lottery and then the draft IS our playoffs.
