I personally do not think there is an organisation that is this bad at developing their talent. The only way we can say "we've developed a player" is when they're a sure thing like Wall and Beal were. When you see teams who have mid-1st-rounders (Faried, Shumpert, Bledsoe) providing valuable minutes or 2nd rounders (Chandler Parsons) becoming gems on a team, NEVER are the Wizards mentioned. Look around the league, the Magic were laughed at when the drafted all these no-name rookies but they are proving to be nice players. If the Wizards rebuilded and ended up drafting those rookies, they would all be busts. They would gallop around aimlessly like Jan Vesely does, they would become a bigger black hole than Nick Young like Kevin Seraphin is, they would become a below-average defender who basically has no offensive game like Chris Singleton is or they would become a fragile mess like Trevor Booker is. Now, conversely, I believe if these guys were drafted by other teams, they would be nice pieces we all thought we were getting when we drafted them. The way we can see if teams are developing their talent is the player trade value - something the Wizards NEVER HAVE. Every trade deadline we hear, yeah they have nice talent but the talent which is actually attractive is off-limits like Wall and Beal and we end up calling up teams for players who are way better than our disgusting "young developing players" or decent players who are on terrible contracts. This is becoming laughable and with the upcoming draft and the Wizards drafting in the 8-10 range, we must develop this guy - he is not just going to fall in our lap and provide. We are going to have to develop him behind a player for 1-2 years and then he can step up. This is something I do not believe our current developing team will be able to do. So what do we do? Do we cling hope on all these players or just eat their contracts? I've absolutely had enough of Jan Vesely and would save the embarrassment of next year and just eat his contract now but in saying that, we have a cheap owner so I doubt this. As for the next 3, we're stuck with them basically for the next year and then comes the big decision - who to keep? If Singleton and Booker do not show any signs of progress next year, which I doubt they will with 2 draft more picks and a FA coming in (if Webster isn't signed) to groom. Seraphin is the only player out of the 4 who has the talent to prove his drafting at 17 was correct. However, he must learn how to rebound for starters. Become more physical AND PASS OUT OF THE DOUBLE TEAM. If he can do this, he is a valuable back-up contributor to whoever out of Nene and Okafor are out.
What does everyone think? Name a team worse at developing talent? Who should we draft and praise jeebus Ernie doesn't fall in love with that 7 foot 1 French dude to draft for Kevin Seraphin to have a friend like he did with Satoransky.
