Bradley Beal injury update: Second opinion confirms ankle sprain, day-to-day timetable

USA TODAY Sports

An examination by team doctors confirmed that Bradley Beal's ankle injury is merely a sprain. The Wizards' rookie will be day-to-day.

The Washington Wizards received more good news Monday regarding Bradley Beal's injured ankle. An examination with team doctors confirmed that Beal only suffered a sprain, the team announced. He remains day-to-day.

A more serious injury was feared when Beal tumbled to the floor following an awkward landing late in the Wizards' 90-87 win over the 76ers Sunday. It looked like Beal's knee buckled a bit, but as it turns out, the ankle was the only issue. X-rays taken after the game were negative, and Beal was optimistic that the injury wasn't serious.

It remains possible that Beal will miss some games. The Wizards embark on a two-game road trip after practice Tuesday, traveling to Minnesota on Wednesday and Brooklyn on Friday, before returning home to face the Bobcats on Saturday. "Day-to-day" is intentionally vague because it's hard to predict how the injury itself heals. Even though the injury isn't more serious, I could see Beal missing a few games.
