Although I've been a casual Wizards fan for about 10 years, I've become a more "dedicated" fan over the past three seasons – poor timing, I know. Bullets Forever is a large reason why, as I have yet to meet a Wizards fan in person (I live in PA now, but I'm from Mclean). ANYWAY, I don't have a thorough grasp on the game of basketball yet, but I'm getting there. I was hoping some more educated minds could give me an analysis/ opinion on Ves' potential and play thus far. On the one hand, his stats look abysmal and he regularly fouls way too quickly and often. On the other, I find myself thinking the Wiz have a better chance to win with Ves in over someone like seraphin or booker. While Ves doesn't contribute too much on offense – with the exception of put backs, oops, etc. – I rarely find myself thinking "WTF Ves, PASS THE BALL" like I do with Seraphin and book. Additionally, he looks good when he is helping on def, setting picks, or making quick touch passes. In short, IMO, he doesn't seem to make as many mistakes/ wasted possessions as guys like seraphin, but he clearly cannot create by himself like others can.
I know where DCrez stands (get him to the D league, ASAP), and I know where Yop stands (speaks about Ves' game like my mother speaks about mine). I think I'm currently somewhere in between the two, but I'd like to hear others' opinions – especially guys who have a thorough understanding of the game (Mike, Rook, etc.). Like I said above, I'm pretty ignorant of the subtleties (although I've been keeping an eye off the ball more as Mike suggested, which I think helps), but I feel like Ves does a lot of good things w/o the ball in his hands. My impression doesn't really mesh with his lack of playing time, however.
TL;DR – With the exception of Yop and DCrez, I haven't seen many well-articulated opinions on Ves, and I'm having a hard time assessing just how good he is. What are your thoughts? and please no "he sucks" or "he's better than the alternatives" w/o some sort of supporting argument. Thanks in advance.
