The Washington Wizards will receive Leandro Barbosa's expiring contract in exchange for Jordan Crawford, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. Barbosa has a torn ACL and will not return this year. It doesn't appear that the Wizards will receive any draft picks in return as well.
Barring a change with the draft picks, the Wizards literally traded Crawford for nothing. No matter how you feel about Crawford, that's pretty terrible asset management.
There was talk that the Wizards would receive 2012 first-round draft pick Fab Melo in return for Crawford, but it looks like that won't happen. I was opposed to acquiring Melo because he is a 22-year-old project big man that has accomplished nothing in his NBA career to date. But at least he would have been better than acquiring Crawford for nothing.
It's clear that Crawford desperately wanted out and the Wizards felt that the situation was beyond repair, but it never should have come to this.
