Is Barbosa the answer?

Michael (Chicago)

Hi Amin, the Bulls could use another point guard for the remainder of the season. Does a free agent like Barbosa make sense or with the improved play as of late of Snell should they look into moving Mike Dunleavey Jr?

Chicago is a little gun-shy when it comes to adding salary (and tax bill), but Barbosa would be a good pickup as a combo guard. Washington is another team that could use his skillset. He's playing 33 min/g in Brazil with no ill effects despite having ACL surgery less than 9 months ago!

Could Barbosa be our best option for the backup PG spot? Barbosa is coming back off of major injury, but if he's healthy as Amin Elhassan indicates in his ESPN chat, then he could be an inexpensive answer to giving our reserve unit a boost. Clearly, our roster is near the tax threshold and roster limit, but if we can dump some of the flotsam (my preference is in a bigger Ariza deal similar to what Phoenix did with Gortat) then we can likely get Barbosa for the minimum.

Barbosa seemed to get along with the Wizards organization for his short stint. It also seemed evident during the Wizards' preseason trip to Brazil. You also have to consider that Barbosa and Nene are like brothers. Honestly, I'd like to see us make a similar attempt with Jason Collins if we clear enough roster space. A second unit built around Barbosa, Temple, Webster or Porter, Harrington, Collins plus the flotsam remainder (likely Vesely) would be a much better reserve group. They also wouldn't come with long term commitment.
