Otto Porter injury: Is the Wizards' rookie 'on the cusp' of returning?

USA TODAY Sports

Could Otto Porter play in Friday's game against the Bucks?

One of the great advantages of playing just three games in 13 days is that it gives ample time for practice and recovery. That mostly applies to Wizards rookie Otto Porter, who has yet to play this year with a nagging hip injury. But could that change soon?

Via J Michael of CSN Washington:

Today the Wizards are off, but rest assured players will be at Verizon Center to get up shots and treatment to heal their sore muscles. While Bradley Beal and Al Harrington are still out, rookie Otto Porter is on the cusp of getting his first game action vs. the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.

Randy Wittman is quoted saying they need to see Porter on the court in the three days before Friday's game and they'll go from there. I don't know if that means Porter is going to play, but it's obviously a good sign.

How much Porter plays is a whole 'nother question, of course. Martell Webster and Trevor Ariza have held down the small forward position well, and the Otto-at-SG experiment should have ended after Summer League. Could Otto play up front in a small reserve lineup with Chris Singleton? Who knows. He's definitely not vaulting into the starting lineup, though.
