Wizards/Bullets Dream Team?

When Kobe Bryant said he thought the current version of Team USA could beat the 1992 Dream Team it caused quite a stir. And since it’s summertime and the news is slow, it got me thinking about the Wizards/Bullets “Dream Team,” and if any team since could beat them.

Now, there are a few questions to answer first. We could go through a 12-man roster and select an all-time squad (feel free, could be fun). But for the sake of simplicity I’m going to call the 1978 championship team the franchise’s equivalent of the dream team. When you only have one ring it’s hard to argue any other team was better.

So given those parameters, I wonder if you guys think any other team in franchise history could compete with that 1978 squad?

I don’t think so.

Maybe if you created a team from the rest of the players in franchise history you might be able to match up with that ’78 team’s physicality.

Can you put together a team that could handle Hayes, Dandridge and Unseld in the front court? Maybe a rotation of Gus Johnson, Chris Webber and Juwan Howard could get it done?

If you put together a squad with a healthy Bernard King, Pearl Monroe and maybe Rod Strickland at point you would at least have a formidable and dangerous offensive team.

Or maybe you think a team with Arenas, Butler and Jamison could give the ’78 team a run for their money?

Sure, there is going to be some generational bias and I know it’s hard to compare eras, but let’s have some fun with it.

I’ll take the 1978 squad and you can have the field. Let’s see what happens.
