I'm going to just come out and say that I am a huge fan of MKG. I watched him play a lot this past year and just loved what he did on the basketball court. I also am a big fan of T-Rob and would not be upset at all if he was our pick later this month. I never watched Beal play this past year, so I don't really know what to believe from what I read on his game, but I fully support the argument for a drafting a 2 guard, whether it is trading up in the 1st or using our first pick in the 2nd round. I want to propose a scenario for trading up in this draft.
It has come out through various sources that New Orleans has been shopping the 10th pick and they want more than just taking one of their "lengthy" bad contracts of Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor. I put lengthy in quotes because they both only have two more years; however, yes, they are grossly overpaid. But I feel both could bring real value to this team. Ariza is a decent defender and good three point spot up shooter and (hypothetically if we draft MKG) would be a great backup to him. Emeka is a career 12 and 10 player who would come in and be our starting center right away and play well along side Nene, as well as Book and Ves.
The trade would be Ariza, Okafor, and the 10th pick, for Rashard Lewis, one if not both second rounders, and a player. If we hypothetically draft MKG, then the player would most likely be Chris Singleton. I'm ok with sending both second rounders because it produces the extra, early first rounder. With that pick the Wiz could address the shooting need with Rivers, Terrence Ross, or Waiters. I could see the Hornets doing this because they could then amnesty Lewis, they get a young cheap player in Singleton, and two cheap players in the second round. Btw, i didn't throw Lamb into the mix because I think he's soft and you'll never hear his name again next season after draft night.
We would still, and most likely would have to salary wise, amnesty Blatche. Taking on Ariza's and Emeka's contract would only really allow us to sign our rookies and maybe 3 free agents, two guys for minimums like our boys Cartier Martin and James Singleton, and maybe another shooting guard/3 point specialist for something like the the mid level. If Ariza or Emeka don't fit in here or salary wise they need to go, after this season they would only have 1 year each left on their contracts and would become good trade bait, giving Ernie more pieces to play with.
Keep in mind this trade should not be made before draft day and should only be made if the Wiz absolutely fall in love with a certain player and he's still on the board at 10. Also keep in mind this scenario could be turned around where we draft Beal at 3 and if Sullinger falls to us at 10 you pull the trigger on the trade, and maybe switch out Singleton and throw in Book or Ves. What if somehow Beal fell to 10??? Crazier things have happened.
Anyway, the purpose of this post wasn't supposed to be about who we should be drafting with the 3rd pick, more do you think it be worth picking up Ariza and Emeka for a year or two so we can get that 10th pick?
