It's clear to me that we have absolutely no consensus on this board about who the best guard would be to take at #3 in the draft. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that the college game has changed significantly and that none of these guys had the impact that Blake Griffin or Steph Curry (or for that matter, Jimmer Fredette!!) had on the NCAA.
We like all the measurables Barnes has, but we wonder, does he have the heart of Calbert Chaney? We love the killer instinct of Beal, but can really be a sweet shooter like Glen Rice or Reggie Miller? We love the champion of MKG, the guy that can do everything ... except shoot.
Anthony Davis was pretty damn dominant, but with the others we are struggling with what makes a player "the guy" who will break out and be a star. For the sake of this post, let's remove T-Robb from the equation, even though I'm still a little tempted by him. Let's look at the guards and run some scenarios. This should be fun.
Who could you see fitting one of these descriptions between MKG, Beal and Barnes?
DAGGER MAN: Which of the three would be the best closer? Who can you see yourself yelling "Dagger!" at the most? My personal choice here would be Beal.
HAM SLAM: Which of the three would throw down the nastiest dunk you have ever seen? MKG reminds me a lot of Caron Butler. I'm going to say MKG.
SHUTDOWN CORNER: Which guy could we line up against the best offensive player on the other team no matter what the situation? I'm going to go with Barnes, because he's taller.
AGENT ZERO: Which guy will have a double nickel game? This is a tough one. I'm going to say Beal because he has a super sweet stroke and he could be a streaky shooter who could have a Tracy Murray kind of game. I'm not sure any of these guys will lead the league in scoring.
C-WEBB DUNDERHEAD AWARD: Who could you see calling a timeout with none left? Who would smoke a spliff and get caught on his way to work? Luckily none of these guys appear to have character issues. I'm going to say Beal just for the hell of it. No real reason.
PLAYER COACH: Who is most likely to step up as a leader? I'll give this one to MKG, although I hear he has a stutter. Barnes seems quiet and businesslike. Does Beal talk a lot of trash?
JIMMY'S BUDDY: Personality wise, who would be John Wall's boi?? Again I think Beal here.
ALLEY OOP: Who best facilitates the run and shoot offense? Who can finish the fast break with blazing speed and hops? I'll give this one to MKG.
What do you guys think?
