I had a great time watching the NFL this season, as I'm sure many of you did. But I find it difficult to tune into the NBA nowadays with the Wizards (my favorite team) playing so poorly. Watching the NFL this season got me wondering, is there a Jim Harbaugh type of coach that could come to the Wizards and turn this team around? Let me explain for anyone who didn't pay attention to the 49ers this year:
The 49ers were a 6-10 team last season, with some decent young talent, who seemed to lack any sort of real discipline, work ethic, and a winning attitude. In comes Jim Harbaugh and within weeks he's able to completely change the culture of the team and had those young guys playing at probowl caliber levels. Even the veterans who nobody thought could play well were able to do their jobs well and help their team win difficult games (take Alex Smith for example). So under better leadership and coaching they go from a 6-10 team to 13-3 team and just a couple plays from going to the superbowl (and judging by the poor play of the Patriots could very well have won it). I know there are other teams in all sports who have made incredible jumps in only a year's time, but this one was fairly unique in that the only major piece that changed was the coaching staff, with minimal free agent signings or trades in the offseason (due to the lockout).
So my question is this: Is there a coach, anywhere (NBA Assistant, Former Coach, College Coach), who could come in and immediately bring success to this franchise? I don't spend a lot of time watching college sports, so maybe that's where the potential is... what do you guys think?
