And Lin goes from under-rated to over-exposed in record time

Was it even 72 hours?
Great story, but I’m already sick of hearing about him (and I haven’t even been able to watch this game yet).

one thing i've learned

when the media picks someone they like, they will push them to the top like none other

Mike P.

was that Lin article really a cleverly disguised template for someone else to follow???

by edubz on Feb 9, 2012 2:28 PM EST reply actions

not sure I follow

I was referring to it being a check list of areas that Wall could improve.

by edubz on Feb 9, 2012 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

I'm saying

If it was meant to be a “here’s how Wall should mimic Lin,” I’d have just come out and said it here.

Posted this the other day but if Cousins were available at all...

I would trave McGee + Vesely for Cousins + Outlaw. Take on Outlaw’s remaining 3 years at $3 mil a year to make the trade numbers work. I would even throw in our 2013 first round pick if we had to and would consider making it unprotected. I just think we desperately need another piece and Cousins would be that piece. Our draft pick will most likely be in the top 3 and in this draft, that player will most likely be a piece as well. If we end up being able to draft Anthony Davis then our interior is set for the future with Cousins at 5 and Davis at 4. So if we had any type of chance I would do a Vesely + McGee + 2013 first rounder for Cousins + Outlaw. We need to make a bold move

by jeffco01 on Feb 9, 2012 3:02 PM EST reply actions

Sac wont trade Cousins he's too talented

They just got rid of a coach for him…c’mon guys. They’ll rid him all the way to the bitter end like Dwight. They’re only hope is that they offer him a huge extension and he signs it. Otherwise, just gotta wait til his and Wall’s rookie contracts are up

by KurisuDevil on Feb 9, 2012 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

Our draft pick will most likely be in the top 3

Actually, the odds that we draft 4/5 are sliiiightly higher than us picking top 3… Add in the fact that’s a strong draft class (combined with curse of les boulez) and we can just go ahead and round that up to six.

VOID!!!

by dt3 on Feb 9, 2012 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

Win the draft, draft Davis and sign Howard

I really don’t see where the problem is. I am sure Leonsis can afford to buy Wizard 1 to fly to Orlando.

by hambonejackson on Feb 9, 2012 6:07 PM EST reply actions

The team would not have so many perimeter problems

if they didn’t have to constantly over help in the paint and some good interior defenders who can run a pick and roll if that is where the wiz are heading. They simply don’t have the players. The team has the guards. They have some shooters, but shooters are dime a dozen compared to trying to put the big men the team needs on the floor.

by hambonejackson on Feb 9, 2012 6:31 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I am sold on a top front court prospect, preferably center

I know He and Drummond are considered the top prospects. I wont know who I like better until the NCAA tourney.

If we go center, which we know we need since JVM is leaving, then that guy has to nab 10+ boards a night if we are going to pair him with Booker. Because Book does not board enough on his own.

We should have a top 6 pick. And there might be Davis, Drummond, Sullinger, and Robinson to choose from. I plan to watch them all in the tourney to see which one steps up their game.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 7:47 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, I don't know either

I haven’t seen enough. I do know that I’m not a big fan of Barnes. I want to like Sullinger but when I see him play I think he will really struggle to get his shot off.

by edubz on Feb 9, 2012 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

and sulliger has been a little injured this season which is never a good sign. but i did like that he trimmed down and got rid of a lot of that fat he carried

we need a front court player. you have to have a star in the front and back court to have a chance. you are too unbalanced if not. as good as durant/westbrook/harden is…that team is not going to win until they can get easy buckets in the playoffs…which is code for inside scoring.

actually, they would be wise to trade us harden for our 2013 lottery pick while they can get something for him. we get our front court player this season and perimeter complement next season…win/win for both teams

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

At a minimum he is a young Marcus Camby

He singlehandedly unglued a decent Florida team at home the other day.

If Ernie parts with JaVale now, it has to be with an eye to picking Davis.

There are a lot of nice players in this draft… for one, Davis’s teammate Kidd-Gilchrist would make any NBA team better… but none of them have game-changer written all over them. Davis does.

my ideal set up down the road

PG Wall
SG A. Rivers (2013 draft)
SF. N. Batum (restricted FA)
PF. Cousins
C. A. Davis

what a squad

by KurisuDevil on Feb 9, 2012 7:28 PM EST up reply actions

Davis is a PF, Cousins is a C

Rivers is ball dominant, wouldn’t fit well with Wall

by Llamaman on Feb 9, 2012 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

All gifted 2 guards need the ball a lot

but maybe a stationary jump shooter who’s gonna camp out certain spots is better for Wall who knows. I like Rivers game tho, he’s gonna be bigtime

by KurisuDevil on Feb 9, 2012 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

I do like your lineup

I really like Rivers a lot. I would also wonder how he fits with John, but I do like his game.

Davis and Rivers in the draft? That would certainly make sucking during the regular seasons easier to deal with. Last year’s return in exchange for sucking was a tad underwhelming.

You hit a game-winner against Carolina in the Dean Dome...

You automatically demand attention. Rivers has both the bloodlines and the sang-froid to be a very, very good NBA player. I think that because of his outside shooting ability, he would not hamper Wall in the least. He might actually potentiate him.

by khrabb on Feb 10, 2012 7:32 AM EST up reply actions

so you think kobe and rose would make a bad back court?

I disagree. What is important is JW’s off guard can shoot and defend. If he can create his own shot, that is a plus because it takes the pressure off JW.

I think something similar can be said for Durant and Westbrook, and they work out ok.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

Kobe and Rose would make a good backcourt

because they are so overwhelmingly good that fit doesn’t matter. Just like the heat are good even though LeBron and Wade aren’t ideal fits with each other. A Wall/Rivers backcourt COULD be good, all I was saying is that they aren’t ideal fit and they would reduce each others on ball abilities because they both need the ball a lot.

by Llamaman on Feb 9, 2012 8:14 PM EST up reply actions

I think JW needs to pick his game up a lot more before you worry about crowding players out.

Those all stars we talked about can win games on their own, which is why it doesnt matter. JW can not obviously.

I think we need to address the front court first. But after that, another perimeter guy is needed. And I would grab the best one available. You can not hold roster spots on terrible teams. Having said that, I think Wall is easy team with so long as that guard can make an open shot

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

Fit is always important

Unless your team has overwhelming talent, it’s extremely important that players fit well together, regardless of who you’re stars are. This is a really good article on the subject

by Llamaman on Feb 9, 2012 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

switch Beal with Rivers

put Cousins at center and add Sullinger at PF.

I like that team.

Lord almighty, I'm sick of this guy's name already

I’d be willing to bet that in two weeks he’ll be back on the end of the bench behind Shumpert and possibly even Davis.

Congrats to him on some good games and despite the above, I do hope he cracks the rotation of a team somewhere. But he does not deserve all this coverage.

by BballBrit on Feb 9, 2012 7:09 PM EST via mobile reply actions

yeah i'm completely sick of him already.

Hate to say it ‘cause he seems like a great kid….but it was annoying to see so many people show up to VC and chant “MVP” and all that cheering just because he is Asian. I get it and all, but it’s depressing on your homecourt while getting beat by the Knicks bench

How did Joe Johnson get picked over Kyrie Irving for the All-Star Game?

by oakhillswag on Feb 9, 2012 7:34 PM EST reply actions

But how the hell did Deron Williams make it. Oh and for the record Irving is out indeffinitly due to a concussion

If you take away rep and look at actual production, Irving should be picked over

Deron Williams at least. Not sure Joe Johnson is deserving although he does keep his team performing at a high level with Horford out.

I think the guards should have been Rose, Wade, Irving, Iguadala and Lou Williams

I'd go Williams

If you look at actual production, they’re basically the same except Dwill out-assists Kyrie bad. Deron’s been tearing it up as of late as well.

That, plus the fact that rookie all-stars are always long shots.

I'm a big believer in trying to get Cousins

for rebounding and his prior seemingly strong relationship with Wall. I don’t think McGee or Young want to be here. Young is from Cali. McGee + Young for Cousins and take back a guard/wing they don’t want, like Garcia?

by edubz on Feb 9, 2012 8:16 PM EST reply actions

Oh, it is slightly more than...
…seemingly strong relationship with Wall.

In this last, recent photo, the little guy in front of John and DMC is Packers rookie Randall Cobb. The white guy behind them is unidentified… but hilarious.

Wall loves him some DMC.

Here is my dream team

an insert your own joke at the quality of it.

PG – Wall
SG – B. Beal – compared to Ray Allen, may be availabe mid-round
SF – N. Batum
PF – Sullinger – our lotto pick
C – Cousins – Sacramento brain farts and trades him for McGee + others

Mack, Crawford, Singleton, Booker, Serpahin of the bench

Sullinger/Cousins would own the boards, turning us into a running team. Beal and Batum are shooters. Sullinger can shoot too.

by edubz on Feb 9, 2012 8:22 PM EST reply actions

that is a great question

Because JW and DMC have a unique relationship, I would if JW wanted him here. I would prefer to have traded 2012 lottery and a player/cash/take back back in 2010 when his stock was lower. To me, it was a no brainer.

But I would get JW input on this one because he could have a strong feeling either way. I would not just do it bec we can get a good player regardless.

Cousins would be a good fit with this team. And it probably means that we could keep Booker as a starter. Booker needs to complement an all star center or he is a bench player. Sign a good SG free agent and we are suddenly a good team.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

if we changed offensive philosophy. Sanders jump shooting offense stinks. Go traditional PNR

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 9:53 PM EST up reply actions

and that was suppose to read trade the 2011 lottery plus whatever else it took not including this years lottery. we knew two years ago this was going to be a stronger draft than last years

by les boulez bomber on Feb 9, 2012 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

everything you just said

I agree with 100% if he and john have such a good relationship and John wants him than I way do it. DMC is a monster and we know what he cam give us every night. The draft is all about maybes… maybe Davis will be good or maybe he wont. But with DMC you know what he’s got already and potientially 20/12 average. That to me is worth a potiental top three pick. And your absolutely right about adding a 2 gaurd, we would be a force If we had that. So as of now I say do it and do it before we’re screwed completely by javalle/ vessely/ a 6th pick. Just one more question, would you add javalle into that deal if it was a dealbreaker?

by no more kwame's in dc on Feb 9, 2012 11:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Agreed but Sacto wouldn't do it I think

Like you said, the draft is full of maybe’s while Cousins has proven to be a very productive NBA stud.

I think it would cost us 2 lottery picks (2012,2013) ánd taking on a bad contract or two.

If their relationship is so great

Why don’t we just wait till Cousins is a free agent and get him then? I know it’s a few years away, but then Cousins has rounded out into form and also we would hopefully have a more settled locker room, which would reduce the impact of Cousins trouble when it arises.

by BballBrit on Feb 10, 2012 3:47 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

no way. his talent is the holy grail that you build a franchise around

that ship has sailed. Sac is a playoff team next year probably.

He went for 19 and 9 with a block and 2 steals beating the Thunder last night. So it was against Perkins and Ibaka which is a good defensive front court.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 10, 2012 5:31 AM EST up reply actions

Bec John might want to join him somewhere else

and the more established he is, the higher the price tag

there are dozens of great guards in the league, there are few great centers:
top tier- howard, bynum
second tier- m gasol
no one else comes to mind, but i could be missing someone

You need a top player in the front and back court in this league to win it all. And it is harder to find the front court all star that can play both ways. You have to do what NYK did and pair a Stoudemare with a Chandler (or Garnett and Perkins), which is twice as expensive. And there are very few Chandlers out there.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 10, 2012 5:27 AM EST up reply actions

top tier: Howard
1 tier: Bynum
2 tier: MGasol, Horford, Hibbert
3 tier: Jordan, Perkins, Noah
the rest.

your third tier have no offense so they would not make the cut with me. Cousins is a two way player

either way to my point…there are only a couple really good and a couple more worth a shit

by les boulez bomber on Feb 10, 2012 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

I agree

Howard and Bynum are 2 way players, Cousins is too.

I’d say my 3rd tier’s defense is so good that it sets them apart from the rest dispite lacking offense.

and is the reason Drummond is the pick over Anthony Davis

and Biyombo was the pick at #6 for us last year. It’s like QB in football- the hardest position to fill

Every once in a while you can point to a team that didnt win it with a great center, but it is rare. MJ did it. Lebron is probably the only player in the league that can do it now. Even Kobe needed great centers to win it.

Just go down the list of champs and look up their center. He was probably an all star or damn near it

by les boulez bomber on Feb 10, 2012 5:40 AM EST up reply actions

Yes, they are the only ones to ever do it that I know

and that is because LeBron and MJ are all time good. And MJ did not have slouches in the front court

They had rebounders and his centers could hit open shots. They werent offensive vacuums.

by les boulez bomber on Feb 10, 2012 11:44 AM EST up reply actions

Another reason we take Drummond over Davis

Because by all accouts Davis is another nothing on offense. And we’ve plenty of those already.

by BballBrit on Feb 10, 2012 1:45 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Davis isn't a nothing on offense

He has great potential in the pick and roll and pick and pop. he has good ball handling ability and his jumper just needs confidence and repetitions on his jumper. His largest impact will be on defense, of course, but he has plenty of potential on the offensive end.

Not sure if this has been posted

Anyway, a Portland radio report—relayed by a Phoenix sports-talk radio guy—had the Lakers sending the aforementioned Fisher and Artest to the Washington Wizards, the Wiz unloading Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee on the Suns and the Suns whisking Nash to Hollywood. I suppose Phoenix also would land one of those L.A. draft picks.

why would the suns do this deal? good deal for the lakers

why would we do it? another pg and sf…the two positions we dont need. and one shoots sub 30% from three and the other sub 20%

ok, if we buy out lewis, which i am sure we will, we could use another SF. But Artest at 7mm per season is really not what we are looking for. He might even throw a shit fit and be more disruptive than any player in the league.

Keep trying to trade them. If we cant, AB can come off the bench and lead the second unit. He becomes an overpaid, but not crippling player. We dont have to extend JVM the qualifying offer, in which case he is a UFA and will sign elsewhere. Or we can offer him the QO and not match. Either way, we lose him.

I think the only way you do this deal is if you know you can flip Artest. But I still do not understand why the Suns would do this unless Nash asked out of PHX. And if that happened, I think they can do better then AB and JVM

Must be a lot of medical marijuana mixed with the smog out there...

Fisher would be a great veteran role model here but we would need both team’s firsts. Plus while the Suns might want to take a risk at rehabilitating Dray, they simply don’t need JaVale with Gortat playing well and Lopez backing him up. Dray and Young they probably would take,

Metta World Peace in Wizzie red white and blue, whoa!

by khrabb on Feb 10, 2012 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

Both Fischer and WP will throw huge fit if this goes down

But that would be a veteran pg to teach Wall sorted, and Singleton would take example from a player whose basically what he’s trying to be. I would definitely do this trade.

But yeah, I want more picks.
