While this is hilarious...
It’s not even his most boneheaded play of the year. That award goes to when he left the paint to go triple team Lou Williams (I believe) on the corner 3 leaving Elton Brand wide open for the offensive rebound.
Notice how teams always have wonderful offensive rebounding numbers against us.
I feel two ways about this
1) the obvious and easy “look at this boneheaded play/lack of awareness”
2) hey – at least he was hustling back on D!!
McGee has played poorly for the last week or so
but he still has yet to enter full scale liability mode. His plus/minus numbers may not bear it out but the Wizards best defensive lineup has him at center IMO. Seraphin would not be able to log 30+ minutes because of foul trouble. At least McGee has a way of playing through foul trouble that Brendan Haywood could not.
When BTH got 2 quick ones…it was a wrap for the night. Remember those days?
True McGee doesn't foul as much as Seraphin
But talking about best defensive line? Seraphin appears in 3 of the 5 best defensive units – from The Truth About It.
1.Wall – Crawford – Young – Vesely – McGee (50 Def Rtg; 7.9 minutes)
2.Wall – Crawford – Booker – Lewis – Seraphin (54.55; 6.47)
3.Wall – Young – Lewis – Blatche – Seraphin (57.14; 6.87)
4.Wall – Young – Lewis – Turiaf – Blatche (62.5; 6.83)
5.Mack – Young – Singleton – Booker – Seraphin (66.67; 5.27)

Not really?
It’s not even in his top 3. Dude makes a lot of bonehead plays.

i agree it's the worst play ever on a visibility scale
but on a basketball level, his isn’t as bad as trying to dunk on someone from the free throw line or throwing a ball off the backboard for a fast break dunk when his team is losing.

Agreed
It’s not as bad as the dunk from the free throw line, although, when you watch the video above, you have to wonder what in the hell he was thinking. It wasn’t like the the ball was on the other side of the court or anything. If you take a shot that leaves you that out of control, maybe you should leave that one out of your offensive “arsenal”.
not the worst thing in the world
But it so perfectly captures what this team has become in the eyes of fans.

Dunderhead
I will not call JaVale stupid, because I’m sure he’s a nice guy and quite intelligent. But he just zones out in games. It’s infuriating.
Looks a lot worse than it is
Now if he were running down on offense before the team secured the defensive rebound, it would be a problem.
Here he is hustling back on D, which is a good thing. It does look funny though and is going to cause him a little grief, I’m sure.
hahahha toooooo funny
but if u look at his head the whole way, he’s basically running with his head down and just completely misses the fact that we retained possession……how…..im not sure. But it happend
Randy was already walking down to Kevin before Javale started
running down the court…he didn’t even see it…it was hilarious
JaVale also knew right after Coach Wittman yelled at him to get back on offense
that he was spending the rest of the quarter on the leather chair.
It also conveniently cuts out the few seconds before
McGee got thrown a pass he wasn’t expecting and had to react really quickly. He made an incredibly athletic move dribbling through his legs to regain possession. It was really the only thing he could have done, and few centers in the NBA could have done it.
He was also pretty gassed and was trying to keep up with the play. There are reasons I don’t like Javale, but I give him a pass on this one.

shame he didnt score there
he could have had Sportscenter #1 play and worst play all within 2 secs of each other, which is pure Javale
but if he scored, then hustling back would have been a praiseworthy play right?
Wall looking back at him like “what the…” is my favorite part.
You say goodbye, I say Helu

After McGee got back on offense
Wall threw him an alley-oop, but it was off and McGee couldn’t convert. So he could have gone from worst play to #1 play.
The best part
Is how Wall just stops and does a double take back at him like “WTF are you doing? Get over here and set this screen”
more like
‘get over here and pretend to set this pick, we both know u wont do’

I'm a big McGee Supporter but
I was watching the game last night and I kept saying to myself it looks like McGee doesn’t care. That play clearly shows it. On another play where McGee didn’t get a rebound you could hear Coach (on TV) yell “MCGEE!” He was in such a rush to get out of the game he didn’t wait for the coach to sub him out and he just ran to the bench. Lucky Toronto was shooting free throws. During the Clippers game Jordan just out hustled him. I hate to say this but it maybe time to cut our losses. It doesn’t look like McGee wants to play for us.

We must get rid of McGee and Blatche before next year...
…and pair Seraphin up with either Anthony Davis or Thomas Robinson

kryp nailed it...
im a guy thats supported him from the beginning but there only so much i can take….
i hope its only a funk that hes in………
if he just doesnt want to be here anymore than he has to go
Enduring the pain of wizards basketball....one game at a time
I mean it's really funny obviously but I'm not gonna give it alot of grief because I think he should be applauded for running back on D which he does rather inconsistently
No
You don’t applaud someone for running back on D when the team isn’t on defense. That’s like applauding him for rebounding a made field goal, or setting a screen on his own man.

Haha
I could DEFINITELY see him RIPPING a rebound out of the air after the ball goes through the net.
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
Perhaps it makes no difference at all, and maybe I am mis-remembering
but this just seems world’s superior to Flip’s public attitude and I would imagine it’s helpful for the players:
"I mean, at first pretty upset with the [shot]. And then when I saw him running the other way, one thing we preached to him was transition defense, but the problem with that was we had the ball. At least I know he’s listening.
"You know what, as with any player in this league — it doesn’t matter what team you’re on — you go through a period of time in every season — and it can be a couple times — of …some bad play. JaVale has gone through here probably a tough three- or four-game period. He has not played very well.
"And the thing I told him today at practice, I said everybody goes through this. LeBron James goes through a bad streak. The great ones go through a bad streak….The only way to get yourself out of it is to work your way out of it….And all of the sudden you’re back on track and you’re playing at the level we need you to play. We need JaVale to play at a high level, there’s no question about it. He isn’t right now, and it’s my job to help him out of that hole and help him keep his head straight."

I really like Randy after I saw this quote.
We find this hilarious and sad. So we can imagine how mad (disappointed, frustrated) Randy can be, yet he still supports McGee and finds words to encourage him to play out of it in the future.
You're not playing transition defense...
…if you’re not paying any attention to where the other players and ball are.
I wouldn't even
Cate about this, except for Wall’s reaction. Hilarious. If JW had just continued playing, few people would’ve noticed. But the fact that Wall actually stops the play to WAIT for McGee is an instant classic

How much money did Javale lose himself on his next contract from this play?
All Ernie and others have to do is play this clip when Vale’s agent throws out +$12. So its a serious question.
I'm a Wizards fan. We've been trying to tell you about Lebron for years. Hated the man before it was cool.
