We've reached the very midway point of the 2011-12 season, which is kind of refreshing given that the All-Star Break usually signifies the 60-percent mark of the year. As such, we'll be running midseason evaluation threads for each player on the team over the next several days. Next up: Jan Vesely.

(Note: we're skipping Ronny Turiaf because he's barely played).

SYNOPSIS: You can't measure the things Vesely does well with a bunch of numbers, but you have to at least bring something to the table there that gives you value. No matter how good a pick-and-roll defender and full-court runner Vesely may be, he is simply is too inept offensively to be much of an NBA player right now. The combination of his microscopic usage rate and his humongous turnover rate is a huge red flag and is exactly what so many of us were scared of seeing when Ernie Grunfeld selected him sixth in the 2011 NBA Draft. There's also the matter of what position he plays, and while the NBA is going further and further away towards rigid on-court designations, it's hard for any coach to really envision where Vesely fits in. The Wizards have to hope Vesely shows them some skills by the end of the year, because otherwise, there's really not much separating him from Jared Jeffries on his worst nights.
