NBA Trade Rumors 2012, Bullet Points And Pining For Othyus Jeffers
This week's bullet points, time to gear up for NBA trade rumors with the deadline coming up and other losing statistics. But first...
- I might get burned up for this...but did anyone think when the Wizards picked sixth in the lottery that we would have gotten far more value on the floor going with Othyus Jeffers instead? Jan Vesely is learning the NBA game under plenty of pressure and I like what he can become, but is the pick one more nail in Ernie Grunfeld's coffin? (Probably not.)
- Over the last four games, the Wizards have been outscored by 41 points in the third quarter. Are all the players locked inside pods watching Gatorade commercials at half-time and believe it's time to take on the world solo? Maybe this is just part of learning the gameplanning process and step 2 is making half-time adjustments...but what happens in the locker room during the break?
- The Wizards have missed 32 free throws over that same stretch. You don't want to know what percentage that comes to if you take John's numbers out of the equation. I'm sure there's a coach who is responsible for free throw shooting, but with fans calling for a specialist a la Dave Hopla for so long amid such glaring need, how long can Ted ignore it with the roster as currently constructed?
- Despite the focused, non-terminal, repeating phantasm we know as hero ball, John Wall is putting forth more effort to marshal the team in the half-court when things start falling apart. Maybe we're not seeing the results we want yet, but...progress?
- I was watching DeMarcus Cousins grabbing his own boards for putbacks using his superior strength and wondered...is that going to be Jared Sullinger's M.O. in the NBA?
- Save the Date! March 15th, 3:00 PM is the NBA trade deadline. Dust off your trade machine, don't forget it's a leap year if you're starting a countdown and remember no one is trading for Andray Blatche!
- Michael Lee sayeth true; as Nick Young goes, so go the Wiz. Lee gave stats for the first two games of the losing streak and Young has gone 9-36 from the field since. Nick normally doesn't put together stretches of bad games...so what gives? Jordan Crawford is starting to come on, and it will be interesting to see how Randy Wittman chooses to proceed after the All-Star break.
- But don't worry about Othyus the Great. Everything we've heard about the guy has been class, he's staying active:
now im a speaker! I play pro bball but im injured so until im healed completly ive been speaking at schools n engagments
via Twitter
And doing alright for himself in the meantime:
Hmmm, its lovely outside! Which am i rolling in today... Muscle car, exotic car, or hybrid car... Ummm to many to pick from any suggestions?
You can't keep a good man down.

Othyus Jeffers
Class guy! I really felt sorry for him. He finally made it to the NBA, played well, got a chance to stick, and then he gets injured during the offseason and it ruins everything. I’d rather have Othyus on the Wiz than Mason or Evans. Don’t think it would’ve resulted in more wins, but I simply loved watching the guy play. Hope he’ll be o.k. soon and gets another chance to catch on with somebody.
Hopefully that's us
after a sound offseason…

I 100% agree
It was clear at the end of last season Othyus brought something more to the Wizards than just his play on the court. I’m still hoping they cut Evan or Mason and bring back Othyus whether he’s ready to play or not.
He'll be on some other team doing well next year
Just like Gee in Clevelend. I think the Wizards have been designated a minor league team and the story never got out. Our team is full of projects, prospects, potential diamonds in the rough, guys who are no longer good enough to compete in the majors but are trying to hang on, and one kid who will be a star when he ‘makes the show’ in a few years. Sounds like a triple-A club, doesn’t it?
On the block so far...
Pau Gasol
Chris Andersen, the Birdman
Chris Kamen
Dwight Howard, lol
Rhondo (no thanks)
Curry (no thanks)
I wish we could get Steve Nash
and run a 2-guard backcourt like the T-Wolves do. Then if our SFs continue to struggle, we could play Nick at SF.
The freethrows
are what kills me, on Wednesday when the refs decided to ignore the shooting and flagrant aspect of the push on JaVale I was mad at first, then realized the way we shoot free throws a possession is probably more likely to end up in points than a trip to the line, excluding John.
I also agree about Wall, I think we are starting to see him take the next step. There will still be stumbles but I still believe he is going to be a top 3 PG
Don't know why we even talk about teh draft
Ernie is just going to select the next Marcus-Oleksiy-Jan Haislip-Pecherov-Vesely.
I'm calling it: Perry Jones
If Channing Frye goes off again, I’m going to drive my car off an overpass. Via offramp, having used my turn signal in a safe and legal fashion - Bullet Nation in Exile

Quiet, you
If we draft the uber athletic project again, I’m going to drive my car off the road. Via onramp, having used my turn signal in a safe and legal fashion.

I see him falling in love with Harrison Barnes this year

Barnes is the opposite of a EG player
He quietly fills the stat sheet while scoring 17-22 a game consistently instead of ping-ponging between 7 and 33 points a night. And he averages 5+ boards a night on a team that has 2 rebounding specialists cleaning up the glass with him.
I hope EG falls in love with him, but we all know that
1) The lottery bill screw us and
2) EG will reach for P Jones or grab Drummond

Yeah - Barnes is definitely not a NORMAL Grunfeld pick...
Barnes is smart..
Barnes is skilled..
Barnes can shoot..
Barnes is clutch..
Barnes is serious..
The “normal” Ernie Grunfeld pick is:
Super athletic and a high flyer
Tremendous “upside”
Zero basketball skills (dribbling, shooting, rebounding, screens, etc..)
Questionable Basketball IQ
Has a care free attitude and mentality
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
he fits the mold
although even he may be too refined.
Kidd-Gilchrist could also fit given his athleticism combined with rudimentary perimeter game.
Ernie loves
Furkan Aldemir 6-10 230 PF Turkey
Book it! lol I just found the first Euro in a mock draft who is not a point guard. FWIW, the nbadraft.net mock has us taking Harrison Barnes (listed at 6’8’’?) and some dude named Alex Young, who is compared to Josh Howard.
I discussed the Othyus Jan comparison a few weeks ago....
Are we grading Jan Vesely on a curve? Comparing Jan vs. Othyus.
It has not gotten much better since…
glad someone is starting to see the same issue…
Gah
can’t believe I missed that, sorry Double D (heh)

Vesely knows how to play defense
he is stronger than McGee was at 21 and he actually passes the ball with skill. I think next season Vesely will demonstrate more offense than he does now. He is a good, young basketball player.
I think comparing Vesely and Jeffers is absurd. Who is going to trade Vesely for Jeffers? I like Jeffers, but he has been around the league longer than Vesely and he is 5 years older. They don’t even play the same position.
