Brad Beal Game Analysis vs Auburn
I've been reading a lot about Brad Beal on this site and I like what I've been hearing. So I decided to check him out myself. Here is my take on his play.
He seemed pretty aggressive when attacking the rim, with a nice double clutch layup in traffic early in the game. However, he also seemed to have trouble when his takes were contested, which is what happened on one of his fast break layups. Florida seems to have a number of chuckers on that team, which I think limits his touches and he doesn't get to create for himself much. But one play that stood out was when he got the ball with the shot clock running down, he hit a nice step back j from the corner. He's obviously got a real nice stroke too, finishing 5-9 from the field. One area that he wasn't great in though was his handling, which may explain why he doesn't get to create much.
On D, he had no problem staying in front of his man, even those who had size on him. He had one very John Wall-esque play tonight that stood out, where the pg turned it over on the entry pass and Beal came out of nowhere for the block after the pg had given up on D.
All in all, he is a guy who's definitely got talent and a guy you know will always give you 110%. Saw him diving for plenty of rebounds and he's got no fear on offense, an example being when he got the offensive rebound under the rim and bodied the bigger defender for the layup. Right now I'd take him over Lamb because I think Beal is stronger and gives more effort.
Let me know what you guys think, Beal or Lamb?
Also, you might be able to get a better feel about how his game will translate to the NBA when Florida play Kentucky in a couple weeks.

Beal is the better shooter
which is something we are seriously lacking on this team. Also, 6rpg for a guy around 6’4" is pretty impressive, so my votes for BEAL
So in what way is Beal the better shooter?
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Well I watched Lamb against Villanova...
Conn won the game on a clutch 3 (not from Lamb) but Lamb set a career high and showed some pretty good range on his shot (including one NBA 3). In general, though, this is not one of your better Connecticut teams and Lamb is not a the kind of college-level winner that Kemba Walker was.
I honestly do not see what makes Lamb (or any of these other kids) anywheres close to a substantial improvement over Nick Young.
Plenty of time to keep looking and evaluating.
Beal over Lamb.
Jeremy Lamb has great size, good shooter but the one knock on him is that he dosent give enough effort in anything else…. Sounds like someone we know, yes Nick Young. I’m not saying thats a bad thing but we need more than just a spot up three pointer. Look at his stats the past 5 games, he dosent do much else but shoot the three. Does not take it to the line as much or pass it up to his teammates. Hes a Nick Young clone.
Brad Beal is the player I want. He can flat out score, whether shooting or taking it in. He can do more than just score with his assist number way up from lambs, and he rebounds. Beal reminds me Eric Gordon. I would much rather of Eric Gordon than Nick Young.
Lamb is far from "just a spot up" 3 pt shooter
I really don’t understand where people get this, do you guys watch the games? He gets points off movement and is great firing off the catch ala Rip Hamilton/Reggie Miller. He is also able to create for himself and get to the rim and make plays for others. Underrated defender as well.
Bottom line even if the only thing he does well is shoot/score (which isn’t true) the one thing that separates him from anyone we have is that he does is consistently

He is underrated on D because of effort
He clearly has the physical ability to be a shut down defender, but he often appears disinterested on the defensive end. He has been knocked on this by a lot of people in high school, at UConn and also on the US Junior team. There are a lot of things you can teach a guy and improve, but it doesn’t seem like passion or desire ever get better.
He can shoot great but you’re right, he can get to the basket (and does) all day long.
Who is the best "clutch" shooter in the draft?
That’s the guy I want. A gamer. A stone cold killer. Of course that was Kemba last year … soooo … IDK. You have a very good point that none of these guys is a no-brainer improvement over Nick Young. Paging Lou Williams….
I guess Barnes is the closest?
Let’s wait and see in march

For some reason,,,
Barnes reminds me of Calbert Cheaney. Almost identical stats in college. Calbert was great his first few years with us, but really wasnt much more than a defender/roll player.
That dude from Florida St has hit a bunch of buzzer beaters
And Marcus Denmon at Mizzou always hits a big 3 whenever they need it. Not saying those are lottery picks though
Lamb looks good on paper
And when I watch, he looks pretty good. But I can’t get over how bad UCONN is with both him and Drummond.
With so many of our players not coming from “the winning mold” (along with a lot of scout sites saying Beal’s shot is better than the %s show this year) I think I lean towards Beal. But I think I would be pretty happy with either if we end up picking after the 5th pick.

I finally saw Lamb play...
…against Villanova, and I was pretty happy to see him doing a lot of cutting and also passing appropriately instead of forcing shots or stopping the ball and then aimlessly dribbling into double-teams. It’s just one game, but he looked a lot less like NY than I feared he might, based on some scouting reports.
Based on admittedly limited viewing, though, Beal seems to me to bring a lot more to the table. I’ve been pretty impressed with just about every aspect of his game, and his motor, court-sense, and general hoops IQ seem terrific. He’s the kind of guy who can still make big contributions even if his outside shot isn’t falling.
