Message to John Wall

Convince Dwight Howard to sign with the Wiz next year – if the Orlando Magic are unable to trade him by the March deadline. :-)

To be or not to be

Things I want to see tonight

1) Wall make a fool of Duhon
2) Jan go all “Stretch 4 Kryptonite” on Anderson

by Ron Carlos Jeines on Feb 1, 2012 6:50 PM EST reply actions

I know it's really not very possible, and in theory it makes no sense.

But just for giggles guys, if we could somehow, someway trade for dwight howard without giving up JaVale (impossible)…would it be worth trying out Dwight and JaVale on the floor together?

I know, neither can stretch the floor, and spacing might be wonky, but would it be worth it to try and have the two most freakishly athletic 7’ footers in the world on the court together in the starting lineup?

again, know it’s not realistic at all, but just for fun: Think it would be effective?

by DCeee on Feb 1, 2012 6:59 PM EST reply actions

lol yea, obviously, but I guess what I was asking was

would anyone be tempted at the possibility of all that length, shot blocking, crashing the offensive glass, just psychologically being in the other team’s head every time they drive to the hoop……

Like I said, sort of a dumb “what if”….hahaha

by DCeee on Feb 1, 2012 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

To play along...

JaVale & Dwight would be a modern day Duncan and Robinson.

by Ron Carlos Jeines on Feb 1, 2012 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

also important...

Really, really important imo that John has the best game of his career tonight.

Make an impression on Dwight, John…

by DCeee on Feb 1, 2012 6:59 PM EST reply actions

Because Deron is Wall's floor?

……

lol.

totally kidding btw. There’s not a single reason for dwight to play here unless he thinks Wall can be the next Rose. Although I will say that I think Wall will ultimately have a better career than Deron Williams.

by DCeee on Feb 1, 2012 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly I think Deron is going to leave the Nets

Nets don’t have the assets to out bid the Bulls or Lakers for a trade. Deron will leave and there without him no reason for Dwight to join in FA

by Ron Carlos Jeines on Feb 1, 2012 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

The Bulls aren't (at least yet) on Howard's "trade" list.

So far his agents have only given permission for trade talks with the Nets, the Lakers, and the Mavericks.

I’m not convinced the Lakers would be willing to trade both Bynum and Gasol (Howard himself has said that’s not a good idea and he hasn’t said he’s said he’ll sign a longer contract with LAL if he’s traded this year), and if they’re not, the Nets look like the place he’ll be traded.

If Orlando winds up not trading him this season, I’d bet on Dallas to get both Howard and Williams in the off-season.

Really a shame that Trevor doesn't seem to be able to develop a consistent jumper...

Because if he did? Oh my goodness…the defense would have to come out to challenge, and he could use his absurd speed at his position to get by defenders and to the rim…

I know it’s only his second year, but he had 4 years of college, which makes you think that if he were to develop a J, he would have done it by now…

Still, I think he’s better offensively than people give him credit for. He has a really nice post game.

Also, I love this whole “let’s go to Davis in the post” gameplan by the Magic. That’s not going to work imo…lol….keep chucking it down there, Stan…

by DCeee on Feb 1, 2012 7:42 PM EST reply actions

I guess your right about the college thing

But I kept on hoping he never worked on it in college cuz he was in the post and has great post moves. No point putting up 100’s of jumpers if your expected to be developing your post game. Oh well.

by BayAreaBullet on Feb 1, 2012 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

That's a great point, because he was stronger than everyone in college

I started tracking it last year

Bad McGee seems to pop up mostly after he has been on the court for more than 4 minutes.. I don’t know much about asthma but maybe it would be better to play the same amount of minutes but in smaller rotations. Flip seemed to play him like 10 minutes on then 8 off.

If we had anyone besides Crawford who could score

We’d be up by at least 12 right now. We can’t buy a basket, JaVale is getting ticky tack fouls called on him (really bad calls refs…..what gives?), Nick and John are playing AWFUL basketball, and we’re leaving Anderson – SOMEHOW – wide open on the perimeter…..

….and we’re still only down by 4. Orlando is playing truly HORRID basketball. We need to win this game.

Usually if we come out sleeping in the third, we lose and lose BAD.

by endos2000 on Feb 1, 2012 8:18 PM EST reply actions

If we win this game the Magic should be ashamed.

We haven’t even shot a damn free throw yet. Refs are helping out Orlando as much as they can.

I really hope we catch heat from 3 and just blow it open…although I admit that orlando lighting it up from 3 and blowing the game open seems more likely…

Yea...I don't know what Nick is doing out there.

He’s getting killed by screens, which is understandable, but even on that fast break…he pivoted, turned 3 times and took an out of control fadeaway 5 seconds into the shot clock. Not what we need on offense.

In such a close game, where we’re playing long periods of great defense, let Dwight try and go at JaVale. Don’t double when we know they have tons of shooters….c’mon wiz….stop falling apart…..

It’s not his fault he can play post D. But its not our fault, so we shouldn’t just pay him because its not his fault.

50 year old kid

Who never, and I mean never ,misses a game. I am dead serious about trading Wall. His value will steadily decline as a PG. We need to trade him or try him at 2. No jump shot, can’t run half court O, and even has trouble with lay ups. Right now his name would have a lot of value as a number 1 pick. By next year he will be a long forgotten bust.

by laxdog on Feb 1, 2012 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

It was a dumb drive anyway

I didn’t see any replays so I don’t know if he got hacked or not, but even if he did it was 1 on 3 it was stupid regardless. Has he proven capable of scoring in those situations before? Nope, so it was a bad move.

by Ball with Wall on Feb 1, 2012 9:38 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Do people here ....

Know how to play basketball?I swear it seems like everyone here has never learned to play basketball. The DRIVES everyone are condemning is always the best choice.Shooting JUMP SHOTS is loser ball. The problem I see is the Wizards total lack of respect from Refs.

Wall drives 10 times gets foul called 4 times and hits 3 that would be 50% and depending on the free throw % your looking at 6 to 14pts on 6 shots.

There is nothing wrong with Wall (see Roses drives)the perception from the Refs are whats killing us.

by notimpressed on Feb 1, 2012 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

Wall had a rough night, he still some good things

he passed the ball well, shoulda had more assists just didnt make shots, his decision making in terms of drives/etc were awful.

His shot is just as bad as it was last year, he's our worst shooter of all of our guards

He hasn’t learned to control his speed, he plays too out-of-control, and doesn’t seem to have garnered any chemistry with his teammates. Shelvin Mack looks more composed out there and, simply put, more mature

Seems like a "grass is greener" type mentality

Also, was Wall not more of a sensation in his first 20odd games?

Seems like there’s a huge performance bump for a lot of players when they start playing… Call it “rookie’s luck,” or just immense swag that comes from naive overconfidence, or the league yet to figure em out…

But Wall and a guy like Brandon Jennings come immediately to mind when talking about young PGs exploding for sensational performances early in their career. Before the inevitable sophomore slump ensues

by Max Zamphirescu on Feb 1, 2012 9:49 PM EST up reply actions

The true test will be in years 3 and 4 with a few more pieces around him and better coaching.

If he’s not an all-star type player by then, then maybe we can start talking about wall not being a great pick.

by tonedru on Feb 1, 2012 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely, without a doubt. But in the meantime-

I’d like to see some clear improvement… He’s played numerous games against significantly weaker competition, he needs to be dominating players like Chris Duhon or John Lucas III.

That he doesn’t is simply exceedingly disappointing.

Cassell shot careless shots by the bunch. He was KNOWN for taking careless shots. He was not brought here mostly for Wall’s development and I’m pretty sure he’d be on the staff from Flip if Wall was not drafted. He’s going to be a head coach one day not a PG coach.

Most of McGee's faults come from mental errors

Which can be directly attributed to coaching/teaching. Maybe not always justifiably, but on some level

Shooting and conditioning I feel like are the two attributes that are mostly cultivated on one’s own time… extra time in the gym, practice court, etc. etc.

by Max Zamphirescu on Feb 1, 2012 9:51 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

why does everyone think that if you shot a billion shots your jump shot gets better??

Or that Wall doesn’t work on his jumper just because his shot is bad this year. Shooting ability is a conundrum really, some people just can’t shoot at times. I’m willing to bet that JW really works on his jumper, but has no confidence in it and as a result he misses the shot even before he takes it. It will take time but, and I’m sure that, just like a lot of other players in the NBA, his shot will improve in due time.

He had a terrible shooting night tonight. But still put up decent numbers with 10 assists, and only 3 TO, with 7 boards, 2 steals and 1 block. Besides his scoring he did have a positive effect on the game. This team might not be very talented, or smart, but atleast they play their asses off, and they don’t quit.

Yeah, did Wall REALLY foul Duhon on that 3-ball?

by Tbonebullets on Feb 1, 2012 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

You also have to factor in how frustrated Wall felt having bad calls go both ways against him. He had just been hacked just before the phantom call was made on him. It gets into your head as a player. I commend him on his maturity.

by Tbonebullets on Feb 1, 2012 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

You often see guys like Lebron and Wade getting into the game rhythm by driving and getting layups and FTs, then their shots start falling, I think Wall is also that type of player

When the refs rob him of that it really affects a player’s confidence because nothing is going their way, even though they may not be playing all that bad.

by tonedru on Feb 1, 2012 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

THIS is the key to this game.... I only watched the second half of the 4th quarter and I saw way to many no calls against Orlando,

Usually I don’t complain much about refs, because you get some bad calls usually on both teams, but it was obvious that the refs WANTED Orlando to win.

by tonedru on Feb 1, 2012 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

The facts are the facts

Wall and McGee just played a poor one. Kudos to Nick for stepping up late after foul trouble broke his rhythm.

Mcgee is not even allowed to play vs Howard

which may or may not matter as Howard sure doesnt need any help vs him….but really how are you supposed to play him if you are mcgee and get 3 quick fouls just by breathing on him? Happens all the time, last year Seraphin came in and he got the quick fouls too. The refs make it impossible for us to beat this team….not saying we would beat them but damn we have no chance
