Wizards Vs. Magic: Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson Both Won't Play
The Washington Wizards' quest to continue the Orlando Magic's woes just got a nice boost, as both of Orlando's starting guards won't play. Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson both won't be in the lineup on Wednesday night, per Joshua Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.
No Jason Richardson (knee) or Jameer Nelson (concussion) tonight for #Magic vs. #Wizards, per Stan Van Gundy.
— Josh Robbins (@JoshuaBRobbins) February 1, 2012
Nelson left the Magic's game against the New Orleans Hornets on Friday and has not placed since. Richardson hurt his knee in the Magic's 74-69 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. Chris Duhon and J.J. Redick will probably start in their places.
The Wizards should still tread carefully, though. It's true that the Magic are reeling and now have to play without their starting backcourt, but this is a team that has historically been a bad matchup for Washington. Dwight Howard is going to be a load no matter who starts alongside him.

This is where I want to be optimistic,
yet afraid to be too optimistic. The Magic must be looking to kill somebody and we may end up be that goat.
We will lose my 20
The only good game will be had by Booker everyone else will be poor or average.
Dwight will have 20 and 20 at least
Thanks for the shooter big Ern
“I finally have enough money that I can buy my way out of anything!!!”
I am now of the opinion that we are simply a rest game for most
teams…
Its a long season….sit out a few players when you play the Wizards or Bobcats.
heh….
I still think a loss to us means we get a chance at Van Gundy next year .
I'm marginally certain Mike would die of happiness
if we got Van Gundy…
by Bullet Nation in Exile on Feb 1, 2012 1:33 PM EST up reply actions
yeah...I think it would be great...
and Van Gundy is on his last legs….a loss to the Wizards and I suspect he will be “FLIPped”…he may have lost the team…
so a win tonight…is literally a win win…
He has certainly proven to be a good Head Coach...
And one that stresses defense…..
If he gets fired in Orlando, he should be the at the top of the Wizards list this Summer.
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Otis Otis too? He should have been gone. He's horrible.

Oh, I meant I, like Mike, would die of happiness.
But yes, you’re certainly right that Otis should go too, or really should have gone long ago. Unbelievably inept GM.
Otis has screwed this thing up for Orlando

Yeah I forgot
The Knicks were the biggest disaster in sports a few years ago along with the Lions.
But still, he’s pretty much sitting and hoping at this point. He’s had years to prepare for this and has assembled nothing but garbage around Dwight.

Tomorrows Headline: Chris Duhon's First Career Triple Double
Please, God, do not allow this to come to pass. We have endured enough.

Strike that. Apparently he had a triple double in his second year
Amend the headline to read “Chris Duhon Dishes 30 Assists in Magic Win”

Redick + Duhon > Young + Wall?

That's a little different
You’re saying Redick + Duhon + Howard > Young + Wall + McGee.
You could also say Ranom PG + Random SG + Howard > Young + Wall + McGee.
Without Howard, I don’t know that this is true.
by Elvin_is_my_Elvis on Feb 1, 2012 1:55 PM EST up reply actions
but we are playing them with howard
so i guess i mean those 2 chump guards are going to play well against us and jameer/richardson being out doesn’t give us an advantage

I guess I meant that because we don't

“run any semblance of an offensive set” and we don’t “know how that works” and because we “lack style and charisma”…that even backups look better than our stars.
Damn, there was supposed to be a picture attached.

Otherwise it just looks like I “love” “air quotes”.

Par for the course
McGee is terrified by Howard and unless we find a way to guard him it will be another blowout. Easy shots for Anderson/Reddick from the perimeter when D12 doesn’t catch it 3 feet from the basket.
I’m optimistic we can keep it under 10 points if we don’t have our tail between our legs going on the road. Big if.
Everyone on this thread is more pessimistic than usual
I’m calling a Wizards win by 22 points, McGee gets 12 blocks (5 of which on Dwight Howard), Vesely dunks on Turkoglu prompting debate on if Turkish players are only in the league to get dunked on, John Wall gets a triple double in pts, assists, and steals, and Booker whips Glen Davis so bad he literally makes Big Baby cry
I agree, I think we’ll win this one. Orlando is a sinking ship, they need to get some picks for Dwight right now and start really losing in order to rebuild. For all of our criticism of how the Wizards’ composition sucks, Orlando is an example of how even a talented team (or, at least a team with one Mega-talent) can go south. In order to be a winner, you have to have a team that WANTS to win as a team, TOGETHER. Orlando has lost that; hopefully our young guys gel some more over the season, and then we’ll have a chance to get there.
Prematurely in the water
is not a recipe for success (say I as a sailor to whom this has happened more times than I care to remember). ; )

agreed. i've been a bit dissapointed in the fans on this site recently.
I know this season’s been bad and I’m honestly all for good criticism but the level of pessimism on this site is depressing. I love this team. Watching them get blown out hurts enough without 8 other ppl piling on about how: its the end of the world/ we’ll never be good/everyone needs to go/we’re going to be crushed/blah blah blah…
…well…I don’t think EVERYONE needs to go. Just the malcontents, the ones with mommy issues, that kind of thing…

It's not pessimism when you're remarking on a trend
Howard has owned McGee badly every single time they’ve met. Our guards have not played great defense this year. Couple this to the fact that they have to cheat off their man to help double down on Howard in the post and it’s going to create a ton of open shots for Orlando.
We COULD win this game, but it’s not pessimistic to believe we won’t. It’s pessimistic to think we’re going to lose to the Bobcats. Optimism has to be based in reality, and the fact is, we have not shown the ability to deal with Orlando.
Also, gallows humor is not pessimism.
The fans on this site have stuck with a terrible team. Why on earth would you be disappointed with them? These are the best fans on the planet.

We're gonna win, Man!
Nick, he’s gonna get an assist again, and McGee, he’s gonna make his rotations, and not goaltend, and uh…yeah.
by Tbonebullets on Feb 1, 2012 2:05 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
just because Howard has "owned McGee" doesn't mean it has to happen tonight
I believe McGee can hold his own tonight because I root for the team to do well. I have to believe that he can hold his own against Dwight otherwise whats the point in even watching the game?
I’m not saying its pessimistic to believe we won’t win the game, but we’re ALREADY talking about how we’re going to lose by 20 or how Duhon is going to outplay John. How would you react if you found out the actual players on our team shared your mindset? I think as fans its not just our job to criticize, but to believe that we can compete with anybody.
For the love of God man, where is your competitive spirit?? lol
But the pessimism you talk about
Is pessimism based on evidence of past games.
You’re sort of being optimistic based on hope… which means to be realistic the pessimistic view is probably more accurate.

Because I like the Wizards?
It’s frustrating when we lose but that doesn’t mean I can’t be patient. I understand that this is a developing year, and in such comes many more losses than you would want, but that’s life. I just want to be part of the growing pain that will hopefully end up being a dynasty.
It doesn’t mean I don’t want the Wizards to win, and it doesn’t mean I think there’s absolutely no way the Wizards win, I’m just trying to be objective.
by Young Wook Lee on Feb 1, 2012 3:06 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
i agree with you.
obviously we all like the wizards, but I don’t see what expecting a loss almost every time we step on the court is going to accomplish.
It lends itself to a losing mindset which is something i don’t think the team and the fans should entertain.
didn't mean to imply that this was a caual relationship.
Just like you wouldn’t want your players to go into each game with a defeatist attitude, i don’t see the point in talking about how much we’re going to lose by before anyone’s even shot the ball.
Though I think its safe to say that at least one player definitely takes his mindset from what we think: cheers Andray
Your opinion on the matter is fine
But you’re not going to change the view of other people on this, so it’s not really a fight worth fighting.
Hamady should play
Javale & Kevin will use up their fouls and hopefully Hamady will get some good NBA hacking experience going against Dwight.
but not too much hacking
DH will get his rhythm goin
Hamady could play a lot
Seems that Javale gives up a lot of fouls when he plays Dwight - & Kevin gets them in bunches.
If Javale can stay on his feet and not leap on every pump he may last into the 4th.
Pressure on the guards could keep it close.
If they play like they did against the Bulls I’ll be happy. Don’t want to see a blowout.
Howard hasn't owed Mcgee foul trouble has and having no plan to guard Howard as a team has
on their losing streak every team that has played the Magic has done one thing and thats pressured the ball the Magic pg’s don’t handle pressure well so we should employ the half court trap and press.
Get out and run and put them down.
by jazzy1 on Feb 1, 2012 2:43 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
You seem to forget
What causes Mcgee to get in foul trouble in the first place ahem Dwight. And we don’t have good enough perimeter defense to pressure their guards, they’ll just blow by our defense for easy buckets.
by Young Wook Lee on Feb 1, 2012 2:59 PM EST up reply actions
what causes Mcgee to get ionto foul trouble is a lack of cohesive team defense he leaves Howard to contest a shot the ball goes back to Howard he recovers then fouls.
He fronts Howard Blatche is scared to come over and then Mcgee recovers and fouls him.
or the refs ignore Howard pushing Mcgee deep and when mcgee responds he gets called for the foul. Wizards can win this game
If the Wizards play hard and stay loose, they could beat the Magic
The Magic are a psyche case at this point and a loss to the Wiz could be the tipping point.
Not saying it will happen and you really have to be pretty sadistic to get your kicks from watching the Magic (or anyone else) implode. But, hey, Go WIZ!!!
This is certainly one of the best chances we've had in recent years to beat the Magic
That being said I think people should realize that Magic still have one of the best players in the league, and definitely the best Center in the league. In the game of basketball, the team with the best player on the floor usually has the better chance to win the game, and that’s still the Orlando Magic.
I think we will win this game
Expect a huge night from Wall (Much like the Celtics game where he went against Avery Bradley). Duhon just cannot keep up with him, he will get burned, John’s energy level will rise, and so will the teams.
Nick Young will struggle to guard Reddick who will run him around, but he should be able to do enough on the opposite end to make up for it.
Crawford seems like he may be in passing mode for the time being, so hopefully that continues tonight.
The biggest concern is obviously Howard. That said, Howard has demolished a lot of teams this season, but the Magic remain inconsistent, because the players around him are horrible. Howard will get his, but with the two starting guards being out, we have a good chance to win this one anyway.
Scratch that
My biggest worry is Ryan Anderson. He could burn us up tonight. I think Rashard could be a good cover for him though, just tell him not to let Anderson get many open looks from deep.
I think Vesely could guard Anderson really well
and Booker is a good matchup for big baby
Orlando's actually been playing better without Howard on the floor.
We’ll see if that mini-trend continues.
good test to see how much mcgee has really improved
good centers had their way with him last year, to say the least. Interesting to see how he does tonight, assuming Howard doesn’t just go thru the motions.
Not really Mcgee has played okay on the good centers
has outplayed Noah, has outplayed Horford Mcgee gives good centers a good game Howard is just a tough match up without having a pf who can aid him in the post.
