So no exciting trades?!?
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Think more along the lines of
With the team changing shape a bit without further imploding, the timing is right to remind everyone ‘everthing kewl’

He's parroting Ted.
But then, he’s never really been exactly outspoken about any prospective moves, so I’m not reading a thing into his words.
Why no trades?
Ernie said they had options be didn’t want to impede the “young players” getting playing time. Ok, then we started Rashard Lewis. Nick and Dray shouldn’t be considered young anymore. And as much as I love the rookies, I’m not sure they’ll ever be rookies. Is it against the plan to sign one decent player????
not necessarily.
but we should have the room to sign a max-worthy play in addition to signing JaVale for the max, which I know we will have to do if we want him in DC.
I'm assuming David West was one option.
And I’m not too sure on the second option. Could it have been Caron? He has still expressed love for DC even after the trade to the Mavericks, and we know he ultimately signed with the Clippers.
Wall-Young-Butler- West-McGee looks like a pretty good starting lineup to me, but it also would mean relegating Jan, Trevor, Kevin, and Chris Singleton to the doghouse, or the D League. You can argue that we could have shipped most of them to the D League for most of this year to develop while this starting five shows what it can do. But Ted did indicate at the chalk talk that he’d rather see these young talents play in the NBA right now instead of the D League.
I see Ernie is in full CYA mode
I assume Vesely is starting as part of a evaluation process…which is unfair to him because is a much better situational guy off of the bench until he continues to develop…
Yeah, he is wearing a life preserver. But wouldn’t you, with a multi-million dollar salary like that, which you could stand to lose? Ernie is basically paying for his grandchildrens’ grandkids’ college educations, the longer he can stay on this gravy train. Just do what the richer dude owner says, take his money, and hope it works out. Can’t say I blame him. And you know what — it just might work out! Lottery, man! (shakes dice….)

So Ernie Decided Against Adding 1 or 2 Players To Get Us Into the Playoffs
I wonder who the 2 players he was talking about?
We could put Kobe Bryant in for Nick Young....
…and we still wouldn’t make the playoffs. He’d have to add the right players to address the needs of the team, of which he hasn’t shown the propensity to do.
I like the strategy of developing young players. But the raw materials have to be better than what he has brought to the table. in other words, the execution is flawed so far.

If the Wizards young players were salmon ready to be cut up into sashimi,
some of them weren’t cleaned property at best, and some of them are spoiled at worst.
In hoops terms, the players need to develop in a system they can thrive in, or they could wither away and disappear from the NBA.
Thanks god Ernie's contract is up after this season
He was talking about us needing a “new voice” for the players. We need a “new voice” in the front office.
This is depressing to think about.
But President Ernie Grunfeld said he has no plans to abandon the long-term strategy of building through the draft and developing unseasoned talent.
The first half of this is underwhelming. The second half doesn’t seem to even exist.
No offense intended, but this situation looks hopeless.

Translation
No one wants our damn players and the ones we like we won’t move so unless some of these players develop and break out it is what it is and we’ll hopefully get an impact player in the draft

Operation LULL stands
as a strategy. Lose until we are like the Lakers.
Whenever EG speaks, we need the services of the kind of experts...
that tried to analyze the content of Pravda and TASS to understand subtle changes in Soviet Policy…
I love the concept of “Erniespeak”… It is true and deserved homage to George Orwell.
So let me try my hand at this and see if i can get beyond bla bla… and interpret the words of the Chairman
1- Ernie believes that the top priority is securing a high draft choice this year.
2- He also believes that Flip Saunders ultimately had the wrong personality to be coaching the Washington Wizards.
3- While he did not believe that offering significant contracts to veteran free agents made sense after the lockout ended, he is open to making a deal that might bring in a potentially helpful veteran before the deal window closes this season (particularly if it rids the Wizards of an albatross or hot potato).
4- Finally, Ernie believes that he has the support of his CEO in respect to this strategy, and expects that if he implements it faithfully, he will be rewarded a new contract.
#4 sent chills down my spine
I hope so forcefully that such an outcome does not come to pass…
What is the timetable?
For how many years can we have cap flexibility and play rookies/talents before it’s time to add that veteran to make us a contender in the top heavy East?
Because if EG can keep saying “ooh, the right deal wasn’t there and we’re happy to develop the young players” through 2014, then something went wrong with the plan.
I’ll try to be patient and wait for that Top 5 pick and a big move with all that cap space… next season. But after that I’ll accuse Ted of money grabbing.
Tanking: I was wondering about strange sub patterns (for example sitting NY after that 17 point quarter), when we were looking competitive in games. I mean, noone can confess to losing on purpose, because this is a competition for winning, right?
