I have been a fan of this franchise since maybe 1990 or so. I was was 12 years old and had decided I needed to follow the home team. I remember watching the Lakers win the championship years before. I loved Magic Johnson. And like everyone else I liked Jordan. I was a Redskin fan long before that. I remember two of our Super Bowl Victories. The Neighbors shooting fireworks are both the 89 and 91 season. I have been a National fan since the came to town and already they gave us a moment like that.
Not the Wizards though. Let me start with I remember when Washington had Webber and Howard. They were knocking on the door of respectability. then bad leadership messed it up. Later Detroit builds a championship team with a nucleus of Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, and Rip Hamilton. Later leadership doesn't support its best coach. Eddie Jordan was not supported by the front court. Then the locker room imploded and gun-gate happened.
The Okariza trade is another big moment for me. Last year, the Wiz should have loaded up on draft picks to stock up in a deep draft class. I agree this team needed some vets but they had more options. This was a draft heavy with small forwards and shooters. Big time needs for this team.
What I had usually during all this time is hope. Hope for the young guys, hope for next year or something. I can't even believe there is a chance of the wiz being good in even two years. God allows U-turns and the Wizards need to make one. Start at the top, hire the best GM money can buy. Let him do whatever he needs to do. Let him hire a coach. Let him revamp scouting. Let him build a TEAM. Please do this before trade deadline to avoid a bad deal and to start fixing this mess ASAP. This status quo isn't going to cut it for me.
