Geoff Burke-US PRESSWIRE

Nene did some "halfcourt stuff" in practice on Friday, the first time he's participated in any fashion since suffering a foot injury.

The Washington Wizards received some good news on the injury front on Friday, as center Nene participated in sections of practice. Nene had "substantial ice packs on both knees," an indication that he put in some work, according to Craig Stouffer of the Washington Examiner. Coach Randy Wittman said that Nene did some "halfcourt" drills.

"He got on the floor a little bit today and did some stuff, halfcourt stuff that we were doing," Wittman said. "He took another step forward today."

Wittman did not specify any sort of timetable for Nene's return, nor did he elaborate on how Nene fared in the drills he did run. In an interview five days ago in Indiana, Nene said that he went to the doctor the week before and was told he was three weeks away from returning.

Clearly, Nene's return would be a big boost to the team. While it's clear it won't happen right now, it does appear to be on the horizon.
