Links: Wizards play even worse than usual in blowout loss to Bobcats

Streeter Lecka

The Wizards played even worse than their 0-6 record suggests last night against the Bobcats. We'll try to make some sense of things in today's links.

Still hungover links:

  • The Wizards threw up all over themselves in Charlotte yesterday, suffering by far their worst loss of the season in a 92-76 drubbing at the hands of the new-and-slightly-improved Bobcats. How bad was it? Trevor Ariza led the team in scoring with 19 points. Oof. Oh, and Bradley Beal has now recorded the two worst games of his young career against the players chosen directly before and after him in the 2012 NBA Draft. Double oof. • Beal and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are the two youngest starters in the NBA, friends and longtime rivals. Beal lost his first professional matchup with Kidd-Gilchrist in emphatic fashion. [Wizards Insider]
  • At least Beal isn't wasting all of the his rookie pay on meaningless commodities, like food. [Us | SLAM]
  • We've all fallen in love with the faces Randy Wittman makes when the Wizards are playing terribly (Note: he makes a lot of faces), but last night all Wittman could sport was 'sad face.' [DC Sports Bog]
  • Royce Young gives the Wizards an 'F' and the Bobcats an 'A' following last night's game. I feel like an 'F' is being a bit too generous. [CBS Sports]
  • Everyone remembers when Ted said after the draft that another lottery finish would be unacceptable. Then John Wall got hurt, and Ted lowered his expectations to a bottom-three finish being unacceptable. Well, guess where the Wizards are on pace to finish the season...
  • At least Ted isn't making any excuses. [Ted's Take]
  • In case you hadn't noticed, the Wizards' offense is atrocious, and it lived up to that standard against the Bobcats. [Us | SB Nation DC]
  • How much respect to the Wizards have around the league? The Bobcats consider a game against them a 'should-win.' The. Bobcats. [FOX Sports]
  • Yup, this pretty much sums up life as a Wizards fan. [Blog So Hard Sports]
  • The Wiz play the Mavericks tonight, and Jake did his best to spit shine the Wizards' turd of a season for Dallas fans. [Mavs Moneyball]
  • Somewhat luckily for the Wizards, the Mavs are also hobbled, missing Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion due to injury. [Washington Times]
  • First Martell Webster is calling the third game of the season a "must-win," and now the Wizards' opponents are following suit. Since beating the Wiz is basically the minimum requirement for being an NBA team these days, I'd probably consider any game against them a "must-win," too. [Us | Fort Worth Star-Telegram]
  • Here's another optimistic take on the Wizards' slow start that was written before yesterday's loss. [Wizards Extreme]
  • If you want the bright side, at least the Wizards aren't this guy (though the franchise does get a mention, because such is a requirement for posts detailing such futility). [Ball Don't Lie]
  • D.C. Public Schools is planning to close Spingarn High, which has one of the most storied legacies in local sports history. [Washington Examiner]
  • Good lord, was that Kings-possibly-moving-to-Virginia-Beach thing actually a thing? [Sacramento Bee]
  • A quick recap of yesterday's NBA action. [SB Nation]
  • Ian Thomsen on why the Lakers made the right decision hiring Mike D'Antoni. [SI]
  • Not sure Philgate (D'Antonigate??) has gotten enough coverage yet. [The Point Forward]
  • Keyon Dooling reminds us all of what true bravery looks like, and how little we know about the athletes we love to watch. [SB Nation]
  • FIBA decided the best medicine for international basketball was to kill it. At least it's thinking outside the box. [SB Nation]
