As I'm sure everybody knows, James Harden is up for an extension. More specifically, the Thunder have about eight days to give him a long term extension before he can hit the free agent market this summer. Prior to the pre-draft trade with New Orleans and subsequently using the third overall pick to draft Bradley Beal, there was a little bit of buzz on this site about possibly acquiring Harden via trade or restricted free agency, where it seems that the team who offers The Beard a max contract will land him because the Oklahoma City front office claims that they can not afford to go that deep into the luxury tax as a small market team. So if the two sides do not strike a deal soon, Harden may end up on the trading block for a cheaper option at shooting guard. I know... the chances of this team landing Harden are rather unlikely. But suppose that Beal is playing very well, averaging around 13 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg, mid 40% from the field and mid 30% on threes. I think that a package of Beal, Seraphin, and a pick could be a pretty good return for OKC for Harden. So my question to the rest of you is, would you be willing to trade Beal this early in his career and Seraphin or another player piece (assuming Wall and Nene are the only untouchables in this situation) for Harden? I also want to make it clear that I doubt that Ernie and Ted would trade Beal and that I'm a huge fan of both Beal and Seraphin. But the only reason I would listen to this offer is because Harden is proven at this level, he is extremely efficient, and he has better size and athleticism. Overall though, I think that OKC might be more inclined to receive a more proven player for Harden and not just a rookie with potential and a pretty cheap contract.
