Wizards sign Jannero Pargo to one year deal

Josh D. Weiss-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The partially-guaranteed deal bolsters the Wizards' backcourt.

The Washington Wizards have signed veteran guard Jannero Pargo to a one year deal, according to his agent and Adrian Wojnarowski. In the wake of John Wall's knee injury, the move should help improve the Wizards' backcourt depth.

With Pargo on the roster, the Wizards now have the maximum of 15 players under contract for the season. However, according to Sam Amick, the deal is only partially guaranteed. The deal would not become fully guaranteed until January 10th at the latest, according to CBA FAQ. As long as Wall is healthy before then (the eight week projection would have him returning in late November), the Wizards will be able to enjoy the depth Pargo provides without having to commit to him for a full season.

In the Wizards' official statement announcing the signing of Pargo, Ernie Grunfeld had this to say about Pargo:

"Jannero brings us veteran leadership and added depth to our backcourt. He is a hard-nosed competitor and proven outside shooter that will fit well with the mix of veterans and young players on our roster."

Last season, Pargo shot 38.4 percent on threes while averaging 5.6 points and 1.9 assists per game with the Atlanta Hawks. Pargo is currently the Wizards' oldest player under contract and also the third-best shooter from three. Only Trevor Booker (who was 1 for 2 last season) and Cartier Martin (who shot 38.7 percent) fared better last season.
