Ted writing the blog post today was very disappointing and it sounded like he was a petulant little kid

because he had to throw his birthday into the loss. He talks about being analytical and not emotional right now, yet he clearly shows his emotions by throwing into his birthday with this Wizzies loss…

He should have kept the two things in separate posts. One to thank those who said happy b-day, and another for his disappointment in the game.

even though he hasn't played well...somehow Nick's +/-

continues to be near or at the top every game…

he was only -5 yesterday…I would have never guessed that…

I guess it kind of makes sense when you consider he is basically the only even mediocre scorer…

but still interesting…thoughts?

by DavidDunn on Jan 9, 2012 5:38 PM EST reply actions

You said it already, he scores points

We give up about 2 points per minute and score 1.5, take his 15 to 25 points out and we score 1 point per minutes. 1!!!!!

I would like to know if we are better defensively with him on or off the court. If we are both offensively ánd defensively better with him on it, I wan’t to know who exactly is f-ing things up when Nick sits. I suspect Jordan and Seraphin are not really helping.

Jordan is at the top of the +/-

but that is a tough stat to depend on…

one of our bad lineups is John and Jordan….maybe that just creates too much of a defensive liability…and we have to move away from it….not sure how we do it though….maybe a big lineup with Singleton at the two, booker, blatche, mcgee when Nick and John have to rest?

by DavidDunn on Jan 9, 2012 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe

1st Wall, Young, Singleton, Booker McGee
2nd Mack, Mason, Vesely, Blatche and Seraphin

With Young as the main option on the starting team, Blatche on the 2nd unit. Sit Crawford entirely and we might wan’t to think about putting Seraphin in the DLeauge and call up Hamady to have legitimate length at C. Mo Evans needs to get healthy too. Atleast he provides defense and some ability to knock down a spot up 3.

My god we are a sad team

I wouldn't mind Crawford on the second team

if he will pass the ball….

at least you have two scorers out there…

by DavidDunn on Jan 9, 2012 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

1st- Wall, Young, Singleton, Booker, ?

? is determined on a game-to-game basis with an after-practice 2-on-2 competition. Wall is permanent offense and only runs pick and roll. Permanent defense, matching up with Wall, can be anyone who needs/wants to work on their PnR D. Flip decides who gets to compete in the 2-on-2 based on who practices hard.

Benefits:
PnR gets extra emphasis and practice.
Wall’s team- better keep your PG happy, otherwise he won’t play hard for you in the 2-on-2.

by yop32 on Jan 9, 2012 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

By default the ? should be McGee

He has played well imho so far and is worlds better than Seraphin. I agree we should run the high-pick & roll way more than we do.

by Dutch Hoopfan on Jan 10, 2012 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

McGee splits his time between playing well, playing well but selfishly, and playing stupidly. He rarely plays meh-ly.

I think it might be better for us if we had someone who just played meh-ly all the time. Consistency is essential for finding a good rhythm.

Speaking of consistently meh play, Blatche’s consistently meh outside shooting, consistently meh passing, and consistently meh ball handling might come in handy, too.

But McGee should absolutely dominate the 2-on-2 competition. If he would just focus on his PnR play, he could be a monster. Hopefully, the 2-on-2 focuses his mind.

He also has a PER of 20+ (near allstar level), the only positive PER differential for his matchup ánd the highest winshare

by Dutch Hoopfan on Jan 10, 2012 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

One of the problems with stats

Stats can’t distinguish between legitimately good play and selfish play.

Going for blocks looks good on the box score, but it leaves the rim unprotected. Grabbing the rebound looks good on the box score, but the better play is often to box out and let your teammate grab the ball. Etc.

I think JaVale tends to err on the selfish side. No way in hell is he near all star level. How many teams with near all star Cs are as bad as we are?

by yop32 on Jan 10, 2012 3:27 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Might be best, but

If opposing teams double Young, we get no offense from our starters. Singleton isn’t enough of an outside threat yet, and McGee’s post game still isn’t ready to be a centerpoint of the offense.

Agreed on Seraphin though. He makes McGee look like a cagey vet on the defensive end by comparison.

by sierradave on Jan 10, 2012 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

ok...i just took a look at popcornmachine.net

We really had an issue with our second team yesterday…and I recall that now…

When the second team came in, we lost a lot of ground…ground that we couldn’t make up…

And a lot of that was defense more than offense….

Maybe we can’t go to full second team in the short term…do we need to create a more starter driven rotation, where we always have 2-3 starters in the game? Those popcorn machine stats are pretty eye opening. From the game, I didn’t really realize the extent of the discrepancy.

Not to mention that in addition to wading through all of the numbers I also had to read several comments more than once just to figure out what he had intended to type. I can only guess that he is either trying to type his entire article using a phone or he is just going way too fast. (Which would be ironic since I gather he is a baseball numbers guy.)

I think I will pass on his links from now on.

we gotta get rid of ernie and the rest of the scouts! All pro basketball players should be able to drain close and midrange shots……

by thewiz06 on Jan 9, 2012 8:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

the question for me is did Ernie even know that Jan could not shoot a baskteball?

And would need to completely delete his current shot and learn how to shoot from scratch? That’s much different than tweaking this or that in your form, Hanrahan (who watches the team practice apparently) is saying they had to bring in a dedicated shooting coach for Jan because he can not shoot at all.

Is that the type of SF that ernie thinks is worthy of the 6th pick in the draft? Or did Ernie not even know this was going to happen? either way it’s not good, i’m just not sure which would be worse

by les boulez bomber on Jan 9, 2012 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

LeBron has an elite game to the point where he doesn't need threes.

He is not a particularly bad three point shooter either. Not the best, but not the worst and maybe better than average.

by thewiz06 on Jan 10, 2012 1:39 AM EST up reply actions

So J Crawford should shoot threes even though he is not good at because he is not elite?

that does not resonate with me. If the best player in the league sticks to what he is good at, shouldnt someone he isnt the best do the same.

why would you continue to offer up your weakness? How do you expect to win if you keep missing bad shot attempt after bad shot attempt? You won’t, and they don’t

by les boulez bomber on Jan 10, 2012 2:04 AM EST up reply actions

LeBron James is good at everything.

I don’t think thewiz06 is making the argument you think he is.

I think, in totality, using LeBron’s refinement of his game in his 8th year is not a good example.

Should Crawford stop chucking? Of course. He needs to understand that the ability to penetrate the lane alone is valuable. And we’ve all seen him throw some beautiful passes off penetration. We’ve also seen him clunk about 25 midrange jumpers after he beats his man. He needs to concentrate on being a point guard (he has natural ability in the penetrate and dish game) and let good shots come to him.

by jones-y on Jan 10, 2012 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

OBJECT!

Your argument is correct here, but you still aren’t allowed to make it.

Top 5 NBA contracts
Here are the top 5 contracts in the NBA this year 1) Kobe Bryant – $25.2 mil; 2) Rashard Lewis – $22.1 mil; 3) Tim Duncan – $21.3 mil; 4) Kevin Garnett – $21.2 mil; 5) Gilbert Arenas – $19.2 mil. 3 of these guys have won NBA championships, would probably be on the All- NBA team of the last 15 years and are certain HOFer’s. The other 2 ( 1 is now OUT OF THE LEAGUE) were given their contracts by the WIz. Amazing !!!

New GM

Unless Ted is totally uninterested in ever fielding a winning basketball team (a thought that has occurred to me), I can’t believe he’ll keep Ernie beyond this season, not after the way the team has played this and the last two seasons. Accountability has to count for something. I hope though that Ted brings in a new GM before the draft. There’s just too much at stake for Ernie’s fingerprints to be anywhere near this decision.

by Koperro on Jan 9, 2012 8:43 PM EST reply actions

Just think

If EG had not panicked over the whole Arenas debacle we would still have butler and Jamison at the 3 and 4 and this season would look a whole lot different. Wall’s assists numbers would be way up with Jamison knocking down 3’s and then he would give up on his jumper. Get rid of EG

Vesely had about a 48% FT

and about a 32% for 3pt. I don’t doubt he could be a 40% 3pt. and still be a 48% FT. Vesely is not a shooter. He might end up being a scorer. He is weak around the rim if challenged right now but he can make nice drives. Watching him with Partizan, I saw flashes of scoring ability because his attempts were so rare. Yet, they were there. He needs to get stronger. Looking at him is like looking in to a prism. If you look one way, he has bust written all over him. Look at him another way, he looks like he can be a very good player. Maybe Veselys best quality is my belief he will be easy to teach. Give Saunders players who understand what he is talking about and maybe the Wiz will be a better team. Yesterday, Rubio was the second coming of Earl the Pearl. Today he shoots 2 for 9. Yesterday, Love was the second coming of Shaq. Today, he shoots 3 for 16. He yanks people after every defensive lapse and emediatly gives them the business as they march to the bench.

How refreshing

Did the Wizards ever replace Wes Jr. and Mike Wells?

From Unseld’s bio which is still on the Wizards website:

The Wizards’ ultimate source of scouting reports both on opposing teams and individuals, Unseld plays a vital role in game planning and preparation.Wizards Assistant Coaches

Who’s doing the scouting now? Youtube?

the current article on the Washington post front sports page is revealing

In in Michael Lee is talking to rival personnel people in the league and they are right the Wizards lack talent and most importantl the culture is bad one guy says and I agree you won’t win with Blatche I don’t care what anyone says and I agree with him.

Real character is needed in bad times. Like I have been saying about Wall he can’t elevate guys who had the wrong attitudes about the game low character guys . Selfish guys.

The article also points back to the Foye/Miller trade and says rival personnel men say you just can’t make that trade.

so all of whats happening is on Ernie and Flip.

To begin every game we throw the ball into Blatche its almost a sure way to waste a possesion when will we finally realize that he’s not the answer that we need to run a moving cutting offense not one geared to Iso match ups.

alot of things wrong with this team but coaching and bad personnel moves are dooming us now we have a toxic lockeroom.

Flip had nothing to do with this roster

He is coaching the playbook we know he carries. He is a system coach. He can not take five players and design an offense around their strengths.

yeah

A better coach & Dray’s a HOF guy… Sure. The point is NO ONE could win with these guys AND THEY’RE SO TOXIC WE’RE NOT GONNA GET BETTER. This is the problem. Ted says be patient, but the plan is nuts. Until EG is gone and Dray & the idiots are gone how could you even think some free agent would come here? Truth is we’d be better off cutting Dray & Crawford, picking up D leaguers who listen and play defense, and moving to the lottery that way. So what if you pay Dray? Better to pay and NOT watch him.

its turning into a comedy show…pretty fitting of our team. At least we have the Jordan banner now. This whole organization is such a joke. Lets go TED!

If I had photo shop

my bag would have the dc hand logo with the hand in front of a picture of ted’s face as he is sulking. Perfect bag
