PREGAME READING: Meet the Timberwolves | Canis Hoops | |
||
Pregame notes:
- Jan Vesely probably will end up playing today after all. "We're going to give him some time tonight. it's a good opportunity, because they really play one big guy [at center] and some 4s at other times. so i think we'll try to get him some time." He said it's taken this long because of a lack of practice time and because Chris Singleton and Trevor Booker has played well.
- Derrick Williams will not start tonight. Instead, Wes Johnson will move to small forward and Wayne Ellington will start at shooting guard.
- Flip, comparing Minnesota to the Wizards: "They've been rebuilding for five years. We've been rebuilding for a year with John [Wall]. So they're farther along."
- Got a bit of a late surprise: Chris Singleton will start as Rashard Lewis is out with a "sore right knee." Weird thing was, Saunders was talking about helping Lewis get his game going in the pregame.
- On Ricky Rubio: both Saunders and Rubio himself dodged the question of what it would have been like if he got drafted by the Wizards. Flip said that, "if it would’ve been Rubio, John Wall might not have been here," while Rubio said he's looking forward, not backwards.
- Rubio on stopping Wall: "He loves to run, and he loves to play the open court. We will try to stop his layups, penetrations and his hard attacking to the rim. We will try to stop that. He's improving a lot with his jump shot, so we'll make him get off that."
GO WIZARDS!

Does this mean Shard is starting for sure???
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, etc
I'm happy CSing gets to start
But it took a rashard injury? C’mon Flip
Maybe Rashard is faking an injury
just like Gilbert did for Nick…

Bullets Forever rejoices.

I've got a bad feeling that Love is going to have a career game.
Popping threes, 20+ rebounds…hopefully McGee can hold his own on the defensive boards.
30+/20+ game for Love, but we can still win
for whatever reason, monster games from him seem to have no effect on their ability to win
Because they play no defense
same reason 40 point 10 assist games with Jamison dropping 25 would still lead to Wizards losses
Gil and AJ could combine for 90pts
but we;d still need Gil to score one more bucket with under :05 left for the win
yes this scenario was described exactly

Maybe Flip is coming around?
"I told those guys maybe I let them off the hook a little bit, because they are younger and I said, ‘We’re not going to do that anymore,’ " Saunders said. "Everyone talks about us being young, and maybe we’re doing you a disservice. We have to coach you like a playoff team, like every game is a playoff game and if you’re not playing hard and you continue to make mental mistakes, you’re going to sit down. We’ll give somebody else an opportunity and you’ll go back in. Sometimes, when you have young players, you say, ‘We’re going to let them play through their mistakes.’ But there has to be some consequence for that."

Hopefully he follows through
I always thought Flip was a pushover and that’s why he doesn’t command respect from his players.
Formerly know as iNFamous SWaGG
Which young players may those be?
Rashard? Blatche? Being that he let’s them play through so many struggles, and they are OH SO YOUNG?
Maybe he should be calling out the entire team, haven’t really seen him struggle to pull Javale once…
Besides, Flip says a whole bunch of good, yet he never seems to come through with the actions. I’m not getting my hopes up at all after reading that.
if lewis is back to starting next game
Flip better not be coaching the game after

Glad to see Singleton starting
I just hope he stays within himself and doesn’t see this as a mandate to take foolish shots and get outta character. Just do what you do and be a menace on defense and unselfish and we’re better.
We should try to program into Blatche
that every quarter is the fourth quarter. Because he was actually showing a lot of effort Friday in the fourth. And last season he would play better in the fourth as well. It’s the other quarters he doesn’t seem to give a shit.
They should try telling him it's the last two weeks of the season...
before the Summer he’s eligible for a contract extension….

Rook, as much as you praise NY,
he’s a better shooter than a shot creator. I love him on the catch and shoot and he should always take the open shot, but the black hole label comes from those kind of plays

Wall comes out flat again
He’s in the “I miss a shot and I put my head down” phase. Snap out of it kid!
NY black hole, Wall out of control droves
This is why the offense starts out so poor. Start Mason, let Young provide spark off the bench.
That might be a good idea
Mason shouldn’t be getting a ton of minutes, but letting him start might help the team’s composure opening games. I’d be for it.

I can’t believe how badly these guys don’t understand basic defensive fundamentals, like how to guard the damn pick and roll, when to help, when not to help, don’t shy away from weakside shooters, etc.
Now THAT was a bullshit call on Young

Well
since Love is 6’9" and Vessely is 6’11" – that makes sense….
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
accurate observation though

Pathetic.
From the District of Columbia, home of the hyperbolic paraboloid transitional floating zone defense.
Love's 2 jumpers were when Blatche was out
just want it noted.
I'd rather not watch
Crawford vs the Timberwolves
Halftime couldn’t come soon enough
Fuckin Jordan Crawford.....

34 points at the half is straight pathetic
Too much dribbling and holding the ball

Why not just give Kevin Love
his second 30-30 game already, sheesh.
I hate this team
if they don’t come out playing hard in the 3rd quarter and win, Flip should lose his job right after the game. No more fucking excuses.

This definitely isnt over
But 34 points at the half is so disheartening

seriously depressing
but as long as booker and singleton play, i am ok…but cant stand crawford
Dray stays making me look bad
He looks slower than Haywood right now. Just like a slug with no energy. He was much quicker then that right after the Jamison trade. I just knew he would get in shape this offseason

I thought he's played with more energy than usual today.
He’s had some tough boards and made some nice hustle plays on D.
Dray was probably our best player that quarter...

Any hope for this team?
We still play like 5 random players put on the floor.
Only interested if Vesely's calling it

he wouldn't look nearly as good if he was playing with the team we have right now

I honestly kinda dont want to see Jordan Crawford anymore

The least he would do is not force shots
Which would mean more for the other guys. Dammit Flip

I've watched a few of his games this year,
he can shoot. I don’t know why that was the rap about him coming in

who in the verizon center wants to yell fire flip in the fourth
If we are getting blown out?

This is our shooting percentage
34.9%
3s – 33.3%
FT – 37.5%
starters are 8-31
thats a damn joke. this organizaion is just terrible. its not just the team the whole thing is rotten right now.
Ernie burdened the fans with this crap
There's no sense of purpose on offense, no trying to create for other people.
You’d see more cohesive play at the YMCA.
Focus on some positives
Nice half for Booker and Blatche. Glad to see Nick get a couple of assists. And, even though he didn’t shoot well, I like the energy Singleton brought.
Another demonstration of why we need rebounding strength
Blatche, McGee, Singleton and, especially, Booker rebounded about as well as we can reasonably expect from them. And yet we were killed on the boards by Love. Our present roster will never be dominant in the paint no matter how disciplined and intense they play. That’s just a fact. Until this organization drafts or acquires players with rebounding/interior defense strength, we won’t be a competitive team.

Glad to see our youngsters getting major minutes
I was getting very tired of Flip’s insistence on giving 30-plus minutes to the totally washed-up Lewis while Singleton and Booker rotted on the bench. Not sure how serious Lewis’s knee injury is but I hope that when he’s better Flip doesn’t go back to giving all the minutes to Rashard. If we’re going to lose – and clearly that’s our lot again this season – let’s lose with the players who might be part of a future.
