shouldn’t mention any one at all if he isn’t going to name all of the mistakes….and we wonder why flip does what he does….smdh

He is going off of the info he's getting from Flip and Ernie
you know, the people who think Blatche is worth extending early because he is practically an All Star while letting Young and McGee enter FA. The people who think it’s better to surround John with athletes wo can run the floor than with shooters. The people wo think it’s better to play a agonizingly slow half court game with lots of iso’s for Blatche and long 2’s while having all those athletes that cant shoot.
All I’m saying is, what can you expect if he is trusting the wrong experts?

maybe I'm just frustrated
But happy talk about a game against a struggling beatable team just doesn’t sit well with me. Easiest thing to do is play close and almost win. The mistakes made down the stretch to me are more troubling than anything. Not something to be hapopy about.
The Singleton missed dunk, Mcgee unable tio finish a simple layup fouled by a lightweight like Bibby then shanking the 2 free throws, Booker holding his mouth and Blatche not switching out to cover for him on Melo’s shot, Wall missing his open 3 them actually setting him up for the shot, Wall passing to a contested Young instead of a wide open Crawford.
Nothing in there equals feel good to me.
The more I watch Blatche play the more I’m warming to the idea of Cousins being here. Blatche will never figure it out he’ll never get it. The quicker we rid ourselves of him the better.

Blatche just doesn't have the grittiness to be a starting NBA PF.
Name a great PF who plays soft. That used to be Dirk’s label, but he changed that long ago. Dirk actually goes strong to the rim. Dray should be nothing more than a backup big on a decent team. Sure he’s had stretches of 20-10 games over his career, but a lot of guys could do that if they played the 40 minutes per game Blatche gets.
If we are serious about this rebuild, it should be apparent that Dray should not be a part of this team’s future.

funny I was thinking the same thing about Cousins when watching Dray
even when Blatche plays well, he’s not good enough anymore to justify starter minutes.
But Cousins wants to be the #1 guy, he’s 7’, and he shoots 38%….that’s some garbage right there no matter how you spin it
by DCrez on Jan 7, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
If Blatche switches, then either Amare or Chandler gets an easy basket (and/or foul) at the rim.
Not to mention that there’s no way possible he can get out there quickly enough to challenge the shot. I’ve got the game on DVR if you’d like to compare notes.
A lot of people complain about his rotations all the time,
and sometimes rotating is the right thing to do. But sometimes staying home is too…
by jones-y on Jan 7, 2012 4:33 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
McGee was near by, he could have rotated to Amare if Blatche closed out on Melo
However, I am a little dissapointed in Grown Ass Man. He played a good game but he was trying to sell a foul to the ref. He should not have done that.

Then Chandler gets the easy bucket.
I think the elbow honestly stunned him for a split second. I SERIOUSLY doubt that Book is dumb enough to think the lowly Washington Wizards were gonna get a big call from the refs with the game clock winding down.
If that were the case, then they would’ve whistled Bill Walker for tackling McGee on the last play.
Anyway, to me, it all just boils down to a good play by a great offensive player.
Chandler gets the bucket after Amare passes around Mcgee
which only happens after Melo passes around Dray. So 2 extra passes around 7’ defenders vs uncontested Melo 3pt’er. Much better for the Wiz if Dray tries to contest, instead he looks planted to the floor and ends up doing nothing while Melo drains the 3
he was pilloried last night on the highlight show…
Two easy passes, due to the fact that the defense is off balance. What's so hard to fathom about that?
There are professionals on both sides of the ball. Anyway, dollars to doughnuts Blatche would have gotten roasted for that outcome too.
There are many possible outcomes, of course, but once the defense is broken, then its all but guaranteed that there will be an easy shot somewhere on the floor. I mean, its conceivable that a guard would have rotated behind McGee, but then the ball likely goes out for a Bibby three. Or rotates around the perimeter for an open Melo three.
We could go on and on. But I think the point is that the defensive breakdown was caused by Melo’s elbow. Blaming Blatche for that is a huge stretch.

Problem One
We should never fall into the trap of happy happy joy joy about a loss…
that is the first step to becoming a winner…never accept a loss as a moral victory….
players should provide the positives, but they should not ever be “happy” about a loss…ever..

Wtf?
We are not an accomplished pick and roll kind of team. During the lock out, most of our players were running and gunning in summer leagues and at charity games. To go from running to a slow down, intricate NBA offense – in two weeks time – has been quite difficult as a transition. It isn’t a fun process in any way.
Yes…because Flip could not have asked Wall and McGee to work together on pick and rolls during those games or in LA the two months after the season ended and the lockout started?

Who is Ted trying to fool? Himself?
Not liking the excuse making from the top down.
And btw-this doesn’t seem like the greatest time to be promoting VIP ticket sales…but that’s just me…
by DavidDunn on Jan 7, 2012 1:19 PM EST reply actions 3 recs
Ted's #1 priority is selling season tix.
He says himself that season tickets sales are the “lifeblood” of the franchise. While he lets EG/Flip do their thing, he pushes tickets all the time. Cant blame him really, that’s the revenue
Can we limit the gifs?
Am I the only person who finds moving gifs incredibly annoying?

Really?
Other sb nation blogs use them much more than we do and seem to rec them all the time. I mostly like them and think they are funny, but it’s a matter of taste I guess.

while I have seen other sb nation blogs discourage them
because it kills users with slow internet speed, and those reading from mobiles (it’s not possible to collapse the message on a mobile, right?)
We'll put in a new rule
If you put in a GIF, make sure your comment has a title so you can collapse it to skip it if you want.
oh...and this sounds like Ted likes our team running more
But we are young and fast and willing and we can play with passion. We can run and rebound and play defense man to man. We can have fun in an up tempo game. I am happy that our coaching staff is adapting quickly – on the fly – to craft a system that is more aligned with the young talent we have on the floor.
Last night’s game against the Knicks was fun for all. We didn’t get a win but it offered a glimpse of some better times ahead. Our fans enjoyed the game. It was great to see our Coach standing on the sidelines wind milling his arms as a sign to "RUN!"
But I thought I read that they thought they could exploit NY’s poor transition D by running..not sure we can expect this going forward…we will see…
Re: Ted's comments
I think, and hope, Ted is trying to cool off some of the heat under Flip and Ernie’s seat right now. Because nothing there is going to happen overnight and once you start firing coaches and GMs and you want a fire sale on players their trade value is greatly reduced.
Because if half the garbage in Ted’s blog post is what he actually thinks, the Wiz are in a lot of trouble.

Popcorn machine shows something very interesting

(click view image or the link above for a bigger picture)
What stands out is Nick played almost the entire game and was +7. Crawford played 11 mins and was -7.
They played together some…but the issue I see looking closely at what Crawford is doing defensively. Nick was tremendously active last night on the defensive end (he has to keep this up), and we can’t have a defensive lapse if JC enters the game. He really needs to show progress the next few games.
If he doesn’t, I would not mind testing a rotation where Singleton starts guarding the two as when Nick is out. Wall/Mack, Singleton, Evans/Vesely, Booker/Blatche, McGee. Obviously a defensive centric team, but it could force Wall and McGee to play better together and show that defense is more important at this point that scoring to this team.
"force Wall and Mcgee to player better together"
No.1 priority for this season IMO, that’s where are bread is going to be buttered in the long run.
From the 'Sporting News' article
He needs to play better. But there is frustration, too, with the rest of the roster and whether it suits Wall’s playmaking skills. Some in Wall’s camp look with envy at the kind of team that the Bulls put around Derrick Rose. (…) there is concern about how Wall will develop as a player with a Wizards group that is lacking in basketball IQ, that ranks 29th in points and field-goal percentage, last in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive efficiency.

What would have happened if they’d kept PJ the whole year? Would Durant have regarded the franchise differently? Who knows…

What they forgot to mention is that Chicago had no business getting the first pick that year.
They were four games out of the playoffs.
yeah but Rose is from Chicago so, you know, it's such a nice story. Stern just couldn't help himself I guess.

Lost in the MANY subplots from yesterday's game
is Mike Bibby getting revenge on the team who FLEECED him on his buyout. The bird of prey, David Falk, who happens to be Bibby’s agent was sitting courtside as well.
Without the financial hit as extra motivation is Bibby hustling after McGee to hack him in the act? Who knows but somehow I can’t see Bibby doing the same to Roy Hibbert or Greg Monroe.
Unbelievable.
He us the reason we lost.
Seriously, those two threes out the score too far ahead and then that foul stopped a real momentum play in its tracks. How McGee got put off by weedy little Bibby I have no idea.
I also hope Melos elbow to Booker is on every highlight reel to show how hollow their victory is. No blame to Booker at all, getting smacked in the face is gonna make anyone pause, and unfortuately that’s all it took.

Eff him
You gotta be kidding me with this. He was under contract, and wanted out of it so he could play for another team. He deserves to get “FLEECED”.

Iman Shumpert looks like a solid player
I wonder what his role will be going forward. Can score, not really a playmaking point guard (which is what NY needs), not a true 2 either.
We've gotta get the dub tomorrow

points you to who was on the floor when they weren't together
Taking a closer look, it leads one to believe a Wall, Crawford, Singleton, Blatche lineup didn’t work out well.
I am going to see if I can check stats cube to see what Wall and Crawford are doing together this year.
I just checked statscube and interestingly both Wall and Crawford have +/-‘s that are extremely worse when there on together than apart. Wall is -4/36 min without Crawford, JC is -6.3 with JW and they’re -25.5 apart. link
YIKES
Some coach some where has to see that and limit there time together….it is getting to the point where the sample size is good enough…
but frankly, a lot of that comes from Crawford’s chucking…but it is what it is…
thanks for looking that up
Did anyone notice
On that play when Lewis was chasing the ball that Blatche(?) threw to him, and he ended up throwing it right to the other team. As soon as the other guy caught it, Lewis WALKED the opposite way, while Booker chased the guy down the court. I was watching at a bar, so I couldn’t rewind the play to see it again, but I definitely noticed Lewis walking, WALKING away from the play.
Now, I dunno if Flip saw this during the game, but once he sees it on tape, he HAS to start Singleton over Lewis. Lewis is a below average player at this point and Singleton, no matter how raw offensively, still gives you more on that end than Lewis.
At the same time, I really think Booker would be better overall in there than Blatche at starter. Maybe he doesn’t score as much, but he plays twice as hard (at least), plays both ends, an doesn’t back down from anyone.

yes...heavily mentioned in the game thread
and he did it again later…if you click the blogger link such as Hanrahan’s, it gets some material coverage..
Ok, so
It WAS easily noticeable. Frankly, I don’t see how you can let that guy ON THE COURT next game.

That's been an issue for two years though
Guys getting away with things that most veteran NBA coaches (I’d imagine) wouldn’t let slide on their team.
Flip is not good at managing or motivating his players, even by negative reinforcement.
It’s a problem. And its part of where this entitlement thing stems from.

Not all that down on Wall have you seen all the elite pg's stats
all of them very poor shooting
Deron
Westbrook
Rose
Irving
Rubio
Holiday
not all elite but comparative dudes. and many more of them are struggling Wall’s numbers fall somewhere across the board near the top.
Only the 1st 3 I'd call elite
And i understand where you’re going but you always have to involve context. None of those PG’s are really directly comparable to Wall’s play style and situation. Shooting is shooting though and there is no doubt Wall is struggling. Maybe as the season progresses we’ll see him start to hit that mid-range pull up he worked on all summer.
Just a side-note but since you brought up poor shooting PG’s, wtf has happened to Devin Harris?
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Definietely true
Wall is looking like Brandon Jennings of 2010-11, a point guard coming off a strong rookie season who suffers from poor shooting and predictably, his team often crumbles.
I didn’t follow Jennings situation as close after that but I doubt Wall’s poor shooting will be as pronounced because he just doesn’t jack up as many shots as Jennings does.
And you also have to account for the alarmingly high number of missed layups with and w/o contact. As Wall finishes those (or gets the foul call on some of them) we’ll see his % creep up a little.
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
If he would get a foul called when he deserve's it he gets to the line at a 10+ per game rate
But…..We are the Wizards.
