I don't even know what to call what Griffin did to Perkins last night.
It was like he was launched off a platform right up and through Perkins. He took Perkins soul with that dunk.
Perkins sucks BTW has been a terrible investment for OKC 4 pts 6 rebs and 1 blk a game . They woulda been better waiting on Hibbert to get free and throwing money at him instead of that Perkins stiff.
They need a low post scorer and got money tied up in him.
Timofy Mosgov is the happiest man in the nba about that dunk.
and yeah Perkins is terrible
they also had this guy byron (bj) mullens
maybe couldve played him a few minutes

I think Perkins is a classic example of a guy
who isn’t reflected well in the statline. He does many of the things that NO ONE else wants to do. It is part of the reason (besides the friendship with Rondo) why the Celtics were so bummed out after he was traded.
Need a hard foul – Perk
Need to set a nasty pick – Perk
Need someone to clean up on defense – Perk

I think the Celtics would be happy to have him back at that price right now
and we certainly played more efficiently at the end of last season with our motley collection of D-Leaguers.
The artist formerly known as ledellforlife.
Oakley made a career of intimidating and scaring people away from the basket
I don’t think any team regrets the investment they made in him.
The artist formerly known as ledellforlife.
Oakley also got 15pts and 12 boards a game for the Knicks as well
stayed near double double his whole career in his prime. thats activity and production to go along with the sbutle things in the game
Perkins rebounds like a 2 guard scores like a D league guy and finishes in the paint like a highschool player. granted there is real value in setting hard screens and playing good man post defense but his general lack of activity is atrocious there are games where he literally sets a coupe screens and does nothing else
thats not value to me thats overpaying Kwame Brown is more productive than he is.
For $35 Million - the Thunder get Perkins
The Wizards get Blatche

I know right
someone with heart while the other is the grinch
Find me a d leaguer
With that size, that can handle himself in post defense against anybody.
I'm a Wizards fan. We've been trying to tell you about Lebron for years. Hated the man before it was cool.

Can't believe im saying this
But lebrons dunk was better. And the baron Davis one was better than both

no way man
that lebron dunk was over a 5’11 guy who ducked his head and wasnt even expecting it, the griffen dunk, its on a 6’11 shot blocker who is totally expecting the dunk, and is simply over powered.

exactly
Lebron’s was just a leapfrog dunk. There wasn’t anyone actually contesting his shot.
What REALLY irritated the F**K outta me about that Lebron dunk (and it still does, cuz they won’t stop showing it), is that they continue to show, and sensationalize, him staring down Lucas afterwards. How many times has Wall gotten a tech for doing that exact same thing? Booker too? But, since it’s the “Golden Boy”, no tech, no backlash, nothing but glorification.
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Griffin pushed off and didn't even dunk it
I can’t count those. But I was thinking the same exact thing about the stare down though

yeah but when i touch the rim on a ray up at the gym
Doesn’t mean I Alameda it down. And I agree 100% on the stare down. Griffin stares down every time too
by no more kwame's in dc on Jan 31, 2012 4:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
because when you touch the rim on a layup
you arent being pushed by a 6’11 physical monster known for stopping plays like this, and you are usually touching the rim from below it. Griffen was above the rim, pushing forward against the very ready perkins who was trying to push him out of the way. And still was able to get the ball in the rim and fingers over the rim…..i dont think you are giving him enough credit.
Go find a nerf rim, Put it up at like 8 feet, have a friend who is your strength or weaker even, and i dare you to to immitate what blake did.
Even more important…Kendrick perkins JUMPED, had he not jumped, blake wouldve been feeding him the griffen family jewls. And griffen is 6’11.
Also, griff had the ball in hand, which makes it even harder, he set a screen and he took one strong dribble, lebron had the time to get a nice running start before he jumped.
I dont think its a contest.
Waiting for the Prodigal Son to Return KH12 BITCHES!!!!
In the Chemi-meter we trust!
i give him credit
But to be fair looking at the replay Griffin used perk as a step ladder which is pretty bad ass but it also helps him to get higher
by no more kwame's in dc on Jan 31, 2012 9:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I agree baron's dunk was better... i just watched it now and it was nasty
He’s a 6-3 guard, who dunked on a very athletic 6-11 legit shot-blocker, and if you look at the replay, he really took AK-47’s manhood and he jammed it unlike Blake…. btw Perkins isn’t really a shot-blocker he can barely jump… If Blake dunked over Serge Iblocka like that then it would be a whole different story.
And Lebron’s wasn’t even that nice… It’s just because he got up really high. John Wall’s dunk on John Lucas might have even been better….
But Vince Carter’s dunk over the 7-footer in the olympics was THE BEST DUNK EVER.. end of discussion. No other dunk comes close.
jordan on ewing?
and if you like 6’3 guys dunking on shot blockers

that's a hell of a link.

I still don't know why we just let him go.
He’s way better than any SF we have now
We waived last yr after the Hinrich trade that gave us Evans at SF.
Josh Howard was fit, we already had Lewis and Martin.
I personally would have cut Martin and retain Thorton’s bird rights but still, Lewis wasn’t going anywhere and remember, they asked Booker to work on his jumpshot to play some more SF last yr and then they brought in Jan and Chris.
I dunno. He is a FA right now though, I don’t know why he hasn’t been signed by someone. He is an NBA player in my mind and if guys like Gomes, Rasual Butler Eyenga and what not can find a spot why not Thorton.
I think the Celtics should sign him to be a poor man’s Green this yr.

Can someone tell me the purpose
of Ted breaking down the attendance numbers for half of his post?
What message is he trying to send or goal is he trying to achieve? I don’t get the concept behind that part of the post. Does anyone know?
he is selling our youth.
and the fact that our season tickets are cheaper than nearly every other NBA team.
this doesn't sound like selling youth...
In regards to the big crowd last night – as I noted earlier in the year – we will average about 15,000 attendance per game with our fans; we have 8000 season ticket holders.
When we play a big time team as Chicago is – some of our fans will resell their tickets at a profit – and the other team’s fans will buy some tickets at the gate as well via single ticket sales.
So – I estimate that we sold perhaps 4000 tickets to local people who grew up in Chicago – and that some of our fans sold their season tix to generate a profit. Our crowd was a big one – more than 18,500 last night.
That just sounds like metrics that someone sent internally at the office. I am lost as to what this means to the average reader of Ted’s Take. Honestly…not trying to take a side…I am really trying to understand the purpose of this specific portion of today’s blog entry.
He is trying to rationalize why the Bulls were playing a home game in D.C.
As if it takes away anything from the embarrassment. It doesn’t.

BTW-Where are crab cakes?
Ted linked to a review of the Verizon Center.
What everybody doesn’t have is hand pulled BBQ; crab cakes; kosher, vegetarian and vegan options; salads; light sandwiches; and not-so-light sandwiches. There is a sandwich carving station that has a guy in a fancy chef’s hat that will literally carve meat off before your very eyes and make you a sandwich. They have a Hard Times Café stand here, which, in case you didn’t know, serves the best chili you’ve ever had, assuming you haven’t had mine or my dad’s.
I have seen everything else, but i have never seen crab cakes? Where is that? At the Greene Turtle out the door? I would have them every night…
He's xplaining why such a large contingent of Chicago fans
However, he reveals that he doesn’t get it when he says local residents who grew up in Chicago comprise the Bulls fans. I doubt most of the Chicago fans grew up there. The fact is that fans don’t automatically gravitate to the home town team anymore. Hell, they see the marquee teams on TV far more than they see the Wizards. Television has supplanted live attendance as the preferred viewing methods. So people feel free to pick their favorite team from TV rather than from local ties. So of course they choose the Celtics, Heat, Bulls, Lakers, etc.
Ted also seems to think that those of us who attend games WANT to pay high prices. He thinks that we fret when we see thirty cent tickets available. Not me. I pay $16 a game for my season ticket and if Ted jacks up the price anywhere near the $48 face value, I’m going to stay home instead. And if the person next to me got his seat for $10 on Stub Hub, good for him. I’ve got no problem with that.
he's also trying to sell the idea that season tix are a good "investment"
mentions 2 or 3 times that people resold at a PROFIT
Yeah, but for every one game STH's profit from
there are five games where they can’t get their dinero back.
of course, but Ted consistently spins them as an investment.
never, EVER fails to mentions how the Caps are now sold out and what a great “investment” it is to buy in now with the Wizards while you still can.
and in the new world of internet ticket resalers like Stubhub
he has got to convince people that buying season tickets are better than picking individual game tickets off of StubHub. Tough sell.
by hotplate on Jan 31, 2012 4:14 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
and the stubhub auto=ticket price lowerer is partly to blame
but I don’t mind getting a seat upgrade at a dirt cheap price, but only for the lower tier games.
that part i don't like.
if and when we are a perennial 50 win team for a five to eight year period, it’s going to look nice. but at some point, the team will suck again and STH rates and gate prices may have to reflect that reality or there will be fewer butts in seats.
probably 35% of the Caps fanbase are adults who were not hockey fans 5yrs ago.
That’s what Ted wants to accomplish with the Wizards.
true, but when the caps start getting into rebuilding mode again, there will likely be more hardcore fans made
than there were before alex rocked Monumental red. That said, the Caps have an army every night, even now with this season being a step back from the last couple years, and they have the Capitals Scarlet fan club which is dedicated just for the women fans and they have well attended ladies only events too.
Assuming the Wizards become a perennial 50 win team for many years and then rebuild for a couple years, we may not sell out every night, but there will likely be more hard core fans and still more butts in seats than right now.
uh....reselling 10 games at a profit doesn't make up
for the other 30…we all know that…at least not now…

dwight howard for rashard lewis straight up is a possibility. Apparently the trade machine doesn’t take common sense into account

If you come up with a hypothetical trade
you can check if it works salary cap wise. The NBA has such strict trade rules that most trades don’t work
Right. You have a trade idea and are able to check if it is possible. What's not to like?

"Randy Wittman Is In Familiar Territory"
sounds like a Travel Channel show…
That 106.9 The Fan talk was great
But it still leaves me torn on McGee. That’s because the whole drive and go-hard factor is tricky, even though its something I that I would in most my player’s if I owned a team.
That is however why this team is as bad as it is because these Wiz kids are mentally weak. The only player’s that fit that description are: Jordan Crawford, Trevor Booker, John Wall and Ronnie Turiaf.
This is also tough because while its nice to roster players with that trait, its better if it is inside your best players too (Kobe, D.Wade, Rose, Westbrook/Durant, Garnett). Most of our best players not only are missing that trait but are on the exact opposite side (mentally soft). For this reason, I’m all for JaVale McGee leaving if its done where we get something proper in return. He has all the talent but we’re talking about something that’s innate. If you don’t have it, you don’t.

no serious franchise allows Mcgee to leave. It's that simple.
a guy we drafted as a PROJECT PLAYER who came into the league at 7’0" 220 pounds. EVERY OBSERVER AGREES he’s gotten bigger, stronger, better each offseason since he’s been in league. This guy will top out at 7’2" 290 pounds 10% bodyfat and 32yrs old…one of the elite specimens in human history…NO ONE DISAGREES he’s gotten better every year, …there’s no chance we let him leave, none

I've been here all year
JaVale has definitely improved his offensive game and is making an effort to do the same defensively. We’ve seen his highs and he definitely has the potential to be a top 5 Center easily but he has been inconsistent and his lows have been baaaad.
Of course I would prefer to keep McGee but in the same breath, keep it reasonable. If he plays as he has been this year I wouldn’t exceed what DeAndre got but if he somehow stepped his level of play up he is probably the center of the future.

there’s should be no chance we let him leave, none. But we will. And draft Davis. And wait 4 yrs for him to be what McGee is now. And have John Wall die of depression.

Rec'd
Letting him go would be the biggest mistake this franchise could ever make (since drafting Kwame Brown). His peak is as high as John Wall’s, if not greater.

What are the chances that Blatche isn't really injured
I think they realized they can’t trade him and playing him now is only going to hurt his value even more.
They might have pulled a Dirk on him to try to get back in shape, get his mind right and have him ball at the end of the regular season in order to trade him on draft day or in the off season. If that still doesn’t work, thén they will amnesty him just before training camp.
Who won? Who lost? Who cares?! The NBA is Back! - David Aldridge
What seems to be the officer, problem? - Randy Marsh
Perfect scenario
Blatche comes back healthy, puts up some big numbers and then unload him on draft night. That would be the best time to do it, because we have no shot of trading him now. Teams would eat up his contract if say Washington was willing to trade down but if we get the #1 pick then there is no trade, unless we were able to do all three things. Trade Blatche, acquire talent, and still get a high draft pick, that’s a no brainer seeing how we already have our franchise player and that a load of talent is about to come out. Otherwise I do not make any trade without Blatche being involved and I glady take the best talent with the Lottery pick. EASY!!! (in my John Wall voice).
New York Times???
Why on earth is the New York Times writing a fairly lengthy article on one of the worst teams in the NBA? It’s not like they even mention an upcoming matchup with the Knicks. Very strange to me. Am I missing something?
by mogoman on Feb 1, 2012 5:19 AM EST via mobile reply actions
Yeah, is there something we don't know?
Could the Knicks be talking to Flip?
Is a Wiz-Knicks trade imminent?
Does it make them feel better about the Knicks to read about the Wiz?
Why did they write it? It wasn’t some totally ignorant article. It seems to be fairly well researched (meaning there were some quotes and context I hadn’t seen before), there’s a photo of Ves (though I’m not sure a project #6 pick in the draft is interesting to many people in New York unless there’s an immigrant population that follows him), they don’t even mention ex-Knick Turiaf…I dunno…I enjoyed reading the article, I just wonder why they chose to write it.
I could be wrong but I don't think Jake's full time with them
I think he’s a stringer who pitched the idea.
Anyway, they have plenty of Knicks coverage with Howard Beck. Not like they’re lacking there

Man If i spent so much on my roster and STILL sucked that bad, I’d wanna make myself feel better too by looking at the Wiz.
Knicks Salary for 2012 = 72mil
Wiz Salary for 2012 = 56mil (Half of which is Lewis)
