realistic playoff chance
before everyone bashes me and says there is no way the wizards can make the playoffs, hear me out.
with the season starting as bad as it has, the wizards are only 4.5 games out of the 8th spot. yes, it's only been a quarter of the season, so you might be thinking that's the explanation for them being so close. that is part of it, but at the same time, the 8th place team is the bucks with an 8-11 record. it does not appear that the 8th place team this year will need a winning record to make the playoff. the current teams above the wizards are the bucks, cavaliers, knicks, nets and raptors. i believe stephen jackson is out for the bucks and i know andrew bogut is out for awhile, so they will probably start losing games. they beat the lakers last night, but the lakers are not even in the playoffs right now. the cavaliers are an ok team, so i'm kind of worried about them since they have played some good teams very tough. the knicks are a horrible team. they have a lot of individual talent, but not a good team. unless baron davis can get them in check, i don't see them as being a threat. the nets should not be a threat unless they start doing work when brook lopez comes back. the raptors just suck, so they are not a threat. i like what randy wittman has done so far. yes, the wizards got blown out by the rockets, but wittman has been holding players accountable for their actions and i like how he has given players specific things to work on. also, depending on what orlando does with dwight howard, they could possibly slip and there could be two playoff spots up for grabs rather than just one. javale mcgee getting in early foul trouble really hurt the team in the rockets game, so if he can stay out of foul trouble and ronny turiaf can stay healthy, then the wizards have a realistic chance of getting the eighth spot.

PLAYOFFS ? who's talking about playoffs !
Heck il be happy if they just win a game ! Besides the Bobcats that is.
Do you really see us playing consistently and passing Detroit, Toronto, New Jersey, New York, Cleveland, and Milwaukee?
I don’t.

Nor do I
But hey. We beat Toronto, should’ve beat New Jersey, almost beat New York, and we’re still waiting on the other teams, although we got blown out by the healthy Bucks.

I'm more worried about where we finish in the lottery

Looked into this after the win last night...
I think we are out of the running for him. Even if we have the worst record no way Stern let us get the #1 or even the #2 pick again. We should have a better record than the Bobcats and Hornets. Detroit is a tossup, but either way 2 more teams will get ahead of us during the lottery and we will most likely be selecting between 5-6. So i guess we are in the Thomas Robinson sweepstakes…
I'm not so sure about the Cats
They’re missing 3 of their starters (DJ, Henderson, and Mags). We’ll out-tank them once they get at full strength. Now New Orleans, I don’t know about them They’re doing a wonderful tanking job by sitting Gordon and Kaman out. Not if those guys don’t come back for a while, I can see them being worse than us. I watched ATL smack them today. They’re terrible.

How the hell did you watch that game?
I turned it on but couldn’t suffer through that.

maybe we will
i’m not saying that it is a guarantee that we will. i’m just saying that it is realistic. if we were in the west, it’d be a totally different story. we’d definitely be too far back because of the quality of teams in front of us, but in the east, the quality of teams in front of us are not too good.
"the wizards are only 4.5 games out of the 8th spot"
We may not be that far out of the 8th seed based on numbers of games (today we are 5.5 games out), but there are four teams between where we are right now (13th in the East) and and the 8th team. All of those teams are clearly better talentwise and/or chemistry wise than the Wizards. The only team we could say that we are better than is perhaps Toronto. Otherwise I don’t see us beating any of the other teams because it’s either been proven on the court, or they clearly have better talent than we do.
we can make the playoffs
the east’s bottom half is always up for grabs. But the fact that we can, doesn’t mean we will

We are 5 or 6 games out now, right?
The season is roughly 25% underway, so in the remaining 75% you want us to make up 10% and outperform 5 teams?
Who won? Who lost? Who cares?! The NBA is Back! - David Aldridge
What seems to be the officer, problem? - Randy Marsh
We still have five teams between the 8th place team and ours
so 5 or 6 games out of 8th right now is further away in reality than it seems by hard numbers one third of the way through this year.
I'd rather we not...at least this time around
With all of the high level players coming out in the draft this year, we need to get our hands on one of them. I see no point in fighting for an 8 seed, getting swept and then having a high pick of 15-16 in the first round. It could help our team mentally, but dont think it’ll do much in the long run.
