Wizards hire Joe Connelly as developmental coach
This according to Twitter and the man himself. The linked piece is my profile of Connelly from this winter. Very happy to see this addition, seeing as he works with several players already.

EG desperately trying to stay afloat now.
who knew a single dunk could be this powerful.
he did come off as a bit of a salesman when talking abt Dray and his offseason training with him
and his high praise of his work hasnt manifested itself
reading between the lines he was saying Dray kinda sucked too I thought
He said he gained weight as soon as Thanksgiving hit, and that he didnt like to do any drills just scrimmage
Ugh
That’s quite the strong quote. But Connelly thinks this year is different. He acknowledged that “we’ve all been teased before” with Blatche, but the commitment he showed in October and even in the last few days has demonstrated enough to Connelly to make him think he’ll come out of the gate strong in 2011/12.
“After he was coming back from injury, he put up some sick numbers, and he’s in way better shape now than he was then,” Connelly said. “Coming into this year, I don’t want to overstate it, but I think this is going to be the year he makes that breakthrough.”
is the dude in green Sweetney?
He and Dray must be lunch buddies

I splurged last week
And got some lower bowls for $8. Too bad it wasn’t the OKC game…
yeah, no one is giving you a discount that deep for the thunder
the market for today is bad not just because of the teams playing, but we also have the UMD-Duke game at 9 and perhaps some folks who would show up in DC are instead at College Park.
actually down to .01 cent
I have a ticket and I am considering buying it…
I should check the vip tickets
i have went to vip for 130 a pair for a couple games
I like the price but it also isn’t good for sth’s either.

Wait – Baltche showed up to play fat and out of shape. Everybody saw it. Now the Zards hire his TRAINER? It’s kind of unbelievable, right? What in the world is going on.
Sounds like a last-ditch effort...
..to wring some/any remaining value out of Dray.
Also sounds like an admission that the team hasn’t been doing jack sh*t in terms of development.
I’m wondering if part of this “development” will entail Blatche sitting out until he drops about 423 trips to Taco Bell in playing weight.

Well it is a small step forward...
If you are OK with it Mike, then it is fine with me too :-)
Mike, what does “Developmental Coach” mean? I thought that Connelly is basically there to get guys into shape, and to keep them in shape. As opposed to a “basketball coach” who teaches X’s and O’s and skill techniques. What is the use of this guy when we’ve got something like five or six coaches on staff? I could understand hiring a “Big Man’s Coach,” since JaVale’s Mom kind of demanded it, but what does Connelly bring to the table.
I don't know if this is Grunfeld
but the Wizards seem like they are the most retarded organization in the league ever since Leonsis and his band of leeches took over. I remember when the Wizards could put Wallace, Webber and Howard on the court. I look at them now and it just disgusts me. After all these decades in the league and they are reduced to a joke.
yeaaa i cant disagree
but in terms of this guy Connelly all i can say is after this season the new head coach wont retain any of these guys, so he wont be here in all likelihood
Unfortunately
I don’t see re-building. I see con game. I don’t see an owner who came in committed to winning. Snyder tried to buy a super bowl. like it or dislike it, at least he wanted to win. Leonsis just seems so content with hawking everything without any commitment to winning. Why are his models teams that never really did anything? The Capitals, Oklahoma. Good teams, but why emulate them? If i owned the team i would model the Celtics, Bulls, San Antonio. Lakers. I would have trophy in mind. He seems too content to turn this in to some sort of Bozo operation with the hope that somehow they will succeed without really trying. Everything has to be on the cheap. I am sorry, but the Washington, DC – Baltimore area is not Enid. Go atop the Washington monument and look around. This city deserves a 1st class organization and all I see i are budget cuts. One day, there will be a book about Leonsis and his time owning this team and it won’t be pretty.

Oh ESPN retweeted Terrence Williams saying...
that the Rockets have declined to extend Courtney Lee. Some things to like in him, I think.
Magic also declined to extend either Anderson or Orton
Either or both could be interesting to different degrees.
Dave Hopla
Is the one that we actually need, not this guy. None of our guys can shoot!! Get WALL some HOPLA TED!
that's what i'm saying
She crushed Flip and the organization’s developmental program….now Flip is gone and Connely is hired.
yep she exposed the amateur hour now we may actually see the investments pan out
How much further away from the Kwame debacle before we got someone in to help develop our young players.
I know Connely alittle bit glad he’s getting a shot.
To do what? These guys are playing games almost every day in a lockout-reduced season. There were already five or six coaches on staff. What in the world kind of value does a guy like Connelly bring that the Zards don’t already have on staff.

“Joe Connelly” is going to improve perceptions of the team?

not much, first step in long process
of showing outsiders and our own players that Ted is going to do everything it takes to win. Perception is reality, we are perceived as the bottom-of-the-barrel, lamest organization in the entire league. Important for Ted to start correcting that image from all possible angles (clearly winning is the ultimate fixer). If we want to have a shot a solid FAs before we’ve actually started winning a bunch, opinions about the organization have to change.
It's not like he's new blood.
His brother Pat is on the payroll and another brother Tim left the organization a year or two ago.
I'll reserve judgement for now, but
“I’ve been working out with him since I’ve been with the Wizards,” Blatche says.
That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
From the sounds of it, Connelly focuses on aerobic conditioning and skills development
I think Blatche is actually doing OK in those areas. What Blatche really needs is someone to watch his calorie intake (Put down the Cheetos, Dray!), motivate him in the weight room, and boot him out of the club before 3 am.
"Hey bad boy, wanna buy some Cheetos"
