PREGAME READING: Celtics Blog |
||
Couple pregame notes:
- Rajon Rondo will not play for the Celtics today. Avery Bradley will start in his place.
- Flip Saunders was asked again about the booing of Andray Blatche. He said he told him he's in a "situation where you've lost some trust with the fans," and added that he'll get that trust back by "doing the little things."
- More Flip: "Sometimes, you're in quicksand where the harder you try, the more you fall. I think that's where he is a little bit. Sometimes, it's better to settle down and do the little things: play hard, rebound. As a team, we can help too. Winning cures a lot of those things."
- Saunders also said he's not going to play Blatche off the bench just because the fans are booing him. "He's a big boy. He can deal with it." Later, he added that "we're not going to make a decision on whether he starts or not based on fan reaction."
GO WIZARDS!

Play with effort....
If they do that, they have a chance to be in the game…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
I'm usually weary
Of team’s backups and random players going off against us, Avery Bradley worries me none. If we can limit Bass we have a legit chance of taking them out. Helps that there is no Rondo to make things easier for everyone
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Yeah...
Rondo usually eats up John Wall
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
And i really think he's the key to Ray Allen's success
Ray can do him regardless but I’m not so worried today.

Like our chances... think we usually match up well against the Celtics
and there not the same w/out Rondo… makes every player for them better.
Boston doing a great job on the defensive glass

Wall needs to learn how to keep his dribble alive in traffic
Kepp the ball low to the ground and below the waist
Formerly know as iNFamous SWaGG
Dude could change speeds and make shots with contact, and even post up
just didn’t play a lick of defense
I'd love to see wall develop a post game... a lot of guards are adding that to their game
even shorter ones like monta ellis, wall is tall, long and athletic and I think a post game would really add to his game… But the post game can wait he has to perfect his shot first.
nick is going to have to work harder on d tonight
Than offense if he wants to stay in…really that goes for crawford and mason as well.
by DavidDunn on Jan 22, 2012 1:41 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions
Definitely tougher for a bigger guy like Nick
Running through those screens, Crawford and even more so Mason, match up far better.
Young was working when he was in though, I’d rather see him now agianst the 2nd unit
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Young is the best defender on the team
Team is 11.9 points better defensively with Young on the court than off…
Opposing SG’s are posting only a 8.7 PER and .479 eFG…. All numbers that indicate a very, very good defender…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
He got caught on a moving screen by Garnett
and Allen splashed a 3-pointer…. Flip took him out…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Committing silly fouls

Take Crawford Out
He looks off Javale when he has good post position. Then makes a bad play on the defense end.
Flip said something about him being worn out
from starting. I have not heard anything else.
Nick had a pass to Vesely there
Would’ve been a tight fit, but it was there

Stupid blackhole basketball
I'd say just good defense by O'Neal

He drove into three defenders
O’Neal was sitting their outside the paint. It’s as textbook you can get for an “out of control” play.
Offensive foul, but I love this new attacking Nick Young

If Allen is out
That’s a huge loss for the Celtics. They really need this win, and they need him healthy.

whats funny us Mcgee was looking for someone to pass too he didn't wanna bring it down the floor
then he was thinking aout the finish. lol
The NBA is funny...
I just watched every single player enter the lane on that free throw before it was released… and was watching a Hornets game the other night and they called a lane violation late in a very close game. Monty Williams was pissed
They should do away with lane vio's.
Totally called unevenly and insconsistently.
KG is rwally moving on those screens.....
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Always does.
They only call moving picks on losing teams.
Boston is really missing Rondo
They have nobody that can stay in front of Wall.
Wall is playing much smarter.
He is playing alot better than the beginning of the season.
Loved Wall there
Waited on the defense to react, then took what they gave him. Nice left
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
So when did Wall officially " turn the corner "
I know its been a couple games now that he has been playing well
Rashard
Doesn ’t do anything worth taking about on the court. Why give him so much PT.
No Rondo, No Ray Allen
Is there any way we can possible lock into Paul Pierce>
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Pierce is reallly hamming it up today toget calls
Flip needs to talk to the refs about it.
Refs called so many borderline fouls
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Flip's decision to pull Wall
Looks to be a mistake. He was playing well. Flip sat him with a minute left. The Celtics pushed their lead up to 9 points.
Flip has to make an adjustment too
Can’t allow 1 person to beat us like this, Pierce is running wild out there, almost a triple double
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
At the game
Very low energy game. Even the Boston fans don’t seem to care.
by DCWizFan on Jan 22, 2012 2:22 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Anyone hear anything about Dirk missing 4 games to work on his conditioning??
never seen that before.
Still very odd to me...
best way to get in basketball shape is by playing basketball… Dirk isn’t Blatche or Boris Diaw and need to drop 10-20 lbs
He came into the season very out of shape (said so himself).
And he’s had a series of minor nagging injuries, especially the current knee problem that seems to prevent him from bending his knee.
Terrible Pick and Roll Defense by AB
Flip needs to pull him for his defensive efforts.
I'm sorry.
I didn’t know how bad you guys really were. This is terrible.

Part of the problem is that
Singleton and Blatche are both on the perimeter. I get Singleton. He’s shooting a decent clip from 3 pt land, but Blatche has no business not banging on the inside some.

End of quarters
Flip has got to tell John to get good shots for Nick and Jordan at the end of quarters. Who has a better chance of draining a three from long range? John or those guys?
I think wall, crawford, young, blatche, and mcgee give us the best chance to win at the end of the quarter
Gives us more scorers, and energy….maybe singleton could play for blatche.. but blatche is a better passer and rebounder

In the last 5 games, John Wall is averging 9.8 free throws a game and making 8.6 of them, an 88% clip
Thats what makes his game go, getting to the line and being aggressive. Players can’t help but to foul him!
What a hook by McGee!!!

Btw Young was stupid to taunt
But, if a guy just wraps his arms around you, how is he making a play on the ball? They should have had the foul and the ball.
Yeah - how is that not a flagrant foul
Guy is NOT making a play on the ball.. grabs the opponent around the waist while he’s in the air…. Could have been dangerous….
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Young should've tried to draw that foul

thats all I want to see…. energy… and being competitive.
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Now is the next step
Who do we go to in a close game, because Boston will respond will Pierce every time
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
This is the kind of game the Wizards youngsters will most likely give away at the end...
Boston is such a cagy, veteran team – they know how to win… Wiz kids don’t know how to make the right plays when the game is on the line and the defensive intensity is dialed up….
But it’s been a good, competitive game so far…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
I hate pierce so much
his grimace when he drives to the hoop is beyond irritating
He also does that because he's old
Seriously, I think you can play as him on the original NBA Jam. (joking)

McGee shot was terrible
But, I really like how he passed the ball out of the post and then repositioned himself. He would have never done that two years ago.
He really should have tried and put a body on Bass there

nick with 5 fouls ruins this lineup

Blatche and Crawford nominees for the “goat of the game” award. Craw made some shots, but he hurt us too. Agree that Flip leaving in Blatche rather than McGee resulted in lost points. Maybe Flip’s a nominee too.
If Crawford hits the game winner please ignore.
I think AB is the goat of the game
Ranking out Goats, I’d say
1. AB for his terrible defense and subpar shooting.
2. Flip Saunders- for playing AB 37 minutes, and ignoring Trevor Booker
3. Nick Young- 4 TO, including 3 offesnive fouls, a terrible technical when the Wizards had just tied the game.
4. Jan V- 2 PFs and a TO were his only contribution.
Too late Flip you asshole!

JaVale doesn't get the rebound
and then starts running up court instead of fouling… no awareness there.
IQ is something that cannot be improved or learned. It's innate.
His low basketball IQ is not going away, ever.

by DCrez on Jan 22, 2012 3:59 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I see your point, but there is a slight difference between basketball IQ and skills/court awareness.
Why do you think IQ tests are given to kids. IQ is your innate intelligence. Sure you can get smarter over the years and adapt yourself to your environment, but your way of innate thinking and making decisions is usually a constant throughout your life.

not true at all
If that is true, how can one learn the game. Either know it or dont
by MurlandTerps on Jan 22, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions
IQ is different than learning skills.
Take Kwame for example, low IQ. He has gotten a lot better from his rookie days and has improved enough to secure $7million/year. He can even start at center on some teams. He improved his skills, worked out and improved his body, but his lack of basketball IQ is still present. Watch him play. Still makes the same dumb mistakes he always makes.

There is this too
Pierce single-handedly destroyed us. And Bass was right there with him as always against us.

Okay Now I'm truly convinced Flip is playing Blatche for stats
He calls a timeout with 3 seconds left in a 6 point game and then proceeds to draw up a play to get Blatche a meaningless 3 point attempt
time to sedate myself
enjoy another redskins-less playoff… yay :(
Cs 1st game over a 100 points

And it seems like slowly and painfully guys are learning
so very very slowly

My two 'if only' moments
If only Blatche had not bit on that pump fake….
If only Javale had got a put back on that missed rebound….
Could have been a lot closer. We were beaten by Paul Pierce and our own youth, plain and simple
by BballBrit on Jan 22, 2012 3:36 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
I love watching Blatche just stand there and not even fight for the rebound.
This piece of **** franchise is really testing my patience. I just can’t watch this complete lack of effort from the same **** game after game.

On the bright side...
…Wall seems to be officially out of his slump. The team is no longer getting blown out by 30 every night. Young and McGee are playing well. We are competitive, but simply losing games because we don’t have the veteran experience to win right now.
To be honest, this should meet any fan’s expectations of progress.

This is on flip again
Taking out booker for blathce, and then Blatche on defense basically lost the game for us and flip takes Out McGee cause he gets a foul cause Dray doesnt rotate correctly.
now i can't blame mcgees mom
i have noticed they don’t run any plays for mcgee he does get the bulk of his points off of garbage no wonder as soon as he touches the ball he just shoots it because he will never get points as long as flips coaching
The thing about Flip playing Blatche instead of McGee at the end of the game is really weird. Coaches are criticized by fans all the time for substitutions they disagree with, but this one is so glaring you have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes.
Could Blatche be “lottery insurance?” With a guy like that, your entire team can play really hard but you still lose and can make a case that you’re not intentionally “tanking.”
The more close games we lose like this...
…the more likely Ted is to get Wall some help this year. I mean, the kid is ballin’ out, but he can’t do it himself. The clock is ticking here.
You simply can’t have two big minute starters, who are also your highest paid and most experienced players, give you ZERO productivity. Show me a team, any team, that’s succeeding in that scenario.
Blatche and Lewis are more than cap albatrosses, they are also eating up minutes that should go to more productive, efficient players. I don’t understand why Flip isn’t letting Singleton and Vesely play through their mistakes. If they foul out, so what?
AverageBro.com - @AverageBro

but, next year. Totally.
