PREGAME READING: Celtics Blog

SB Nation D.C. | SB Nation Boston

Couple pregame notes:

  • Rajon Rondo will not play for the Celtics today. Avery Bradley will start in his place.
  • Flip Saunders was asked again about the booing of Andray Blatche. He said he told him he's in a "situation where you've lost some trust with the fans," and added that he'll get that trust back by "doing the little things."
  • More Flip: "Sometimes, you're in quicksand where the harder you try, the more you fall. I think that's where he is a little bit. Sometimes, it's better to settle down and do the little things: play hard, rebound. As a team, we can help too. Winning cures a lot of those things."
  • Saunders also said he's not going to play Blatche off the bench just because the fans are booing him. "He's a big boy. He can deal with it." Later, he added that "we're not going to make a decision on whether he starts or not based on fan reaction."

Play with effort....

If they do that, they have a chance to be in the game…

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

I'm usually weary

Of team’s backups and random players going off against us, Avery Bradley worries me none. If we can limit Bass we have a legit chance of taking them out. Helps that there is no Rondo to make things easier for everyone

I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB

And i really think he's the key to Ray Allen's success

Ray can do him regardless but I’m not so worried today.

I'd love to see wall develop a post game... a lot of guards are adding that to their game

even shorter ones like monta ellis, wall is tall, long and athletic and I think a post game would really add to his game… But the post game can wait he has to perfect his shot first.

nick is going to have to work harder on d tonight

Than offense if he wants to stay in…really that goes for crawford and mason as well.

by DavidDunn on Jan 22, 2012 1:41 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions

Definitely tougher for a bigger guy like Nick

Running through those screens, Crawford and even more so Mason, match up far better.

Young was working when he was in though, I’d rather see him now agianst the 2nd unit

Young is the best defender on the team

Team is 11.9 points better defensively with Young on the court than off…

Opposing SG’s are posting only a 8.7 PER and .479 eFG…. All numbers that indicate a very, very good defender…

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

Ranking out Goats, I’d say
1. AB for his terrible defense and subpar shooting.
2. Flip Saunders- for playing AB 37 minutes, and ignoring Trevor Booker
3. Nick Young- 4 TO, including 3 offesnive fouls, a terrible technical when the Wizards had just tied the game.
4. Jan V- 2 PFs and a TO were his only contribution.

IQ is different than learning skills.

Take Kwame for example, low IQ. He has gotten a lot better from his rookie days and has improved enough to secure $7million/year. He can even start at center on some teams. He improved his skills, worked out and improved his body, but his lack of basketball IQ is still present. Watch him play. Still makes the same dumb mistakes he always makes.

It's a problem

Boston makes the plays down the stretch...

Wizards do not….

Difference between a young team, and a veteran team.

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

Alternatively

Without Allen and Rondo, the Celtics are not that good.

There is this too

Pierce single-handedly destroyed us. And Bass was right there with him as always against us.

Okay Now I'm truly convinced Flip is playing Blatche for stats

He calls a timeout with 3 seconds left in a 6 point game and then proceeds to draw up a play to get Blatche a meaningless 3 point attempt

time to sedate myself

enjoy another redskins-less playoff… yay :(

My two 'if only' moments

If only Blatche had not bit on that pump fake….

If only Javale had got a put back on that missed rebound….

Could have been a lot closer. We were beaten by Paul Pierce and our own youth, plain and simple

I love watching Blatche just stand there and not even fight for the rebound.

This piece of **** franchise is really testing my patience. I just can’t watch this complete lack of effort from the same **** game after game.

On the bright side...

…Wall seems to be officially out of his slump. The team is no longer getting blown out by 30 every night. Young and McGee are playing well. We are competitive, but simply losing games because we don’t have the veteran experience to win right now.

To be honest, this should meet any fan’s expectations of progress.

Yup I'm fine with it

The more games like this, hopefully this team learns what and what not to do in close games down the stretch.

the good thing

Is if the team continues to play with this completive spirit but keeps losing, Flips seat will have to start warming up no more excuses.

This is on flip again

Taking out booker for blathce, and then Blatche on defense basically lost the game for us and flip takes Out McGee cause he gets a foul cause Dray doesnt rotate correctly.

now i can't blame mcgees mom

i have noticed they don’t run any plays for mcgee he does get the bulk of his points off of garbage no wonder as soon as he touches the ball he just shoots it because he will never get points as long as flips coaching

by pdub117 on Jan 22, 2012 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

The thing about Flip playing Blatche instead of McGee at the end of the game is really weird. Coaches are criticized by fans all the time for substitutions they disagree with, but this one is so glaring you have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes.

Could Blatche be “lottery insurance?” With a guy like that, your entire team can play really hard but you still lose and can make a case that you’re not intentionally “tanking.”

The more close games we lose like this...

…the more likely Ted is to get Wall some help this year. I mean, the kid is ballin’ out, but he can’t do it himself. The clock is ticking here.

You simply can’t have two big minute starters, who are also your highest paid and most experienced players, give you ZERO productivity. Show me a team, any team, that’s succeeding in that scenario.

Blatche and Lewis are more than cap albatrosses, they are also eating up minutes that should go to more productive, efficient players. I don’t understand why Flip isn’t letting Singleton and Vesely play through their mistakes. If they foul out, so what?

vesely doesnt really produce anything yet and i dont think flip trusts singelton's

Ability to score….so when Nick is playing PP as tight as Chris, flip leaves chris on bench
