Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

"He’s maturing," said Lawson of his fellow point guard. "Things are, you can just tell, in disarray, not with the organization, but the players on the court. He’s fighting through it. Eventually he’s going to get some players around him and show exactly how good he is."

i hope so.........

………but it looks like we are going to lose javale and nick this offseason but keep the “electric” andray blatche……smh

changes daily but now I think Ted and Ernie could not care less about all the negative media surrounding Javale.

Ted is obviously thinking “big picture” and Mcgee is unquestionably improving at a slow but steady rate. The owner of the team says Javale is a very smart guy, we know he is coachable enough given he improves, he’s a phenom 7’2" athlete, and he’s 24…..that’s a keeper for sure.

Think so ?

Despite the recent bad press, I’m not certain it’s a wrap that JaVale is gone..I’m holding on hope that even if we can’t trade Blatche, we can use the amnesty clause on him at the end of the season..it has to be obvious to everyone that Blatche can’t be here at the start of next season

Blatche isn't a terrible option

As a 2nd big man off the bench, playing with the second unit. His conditioning is problematic which makes him an unlikely starter. I’m not sure he has to be gone, so much as Flip needs to realize that he was the 47th pick in the draft and isn’t going to “get it” in the near future. The Wizards have plenty of cap room. You can amnesty Blatche, it’s a valid move, but it’s not a necessary move.

If the Wizards decide to sign McGee to a long-term contract for big $$, I think it might be better to keep the amnesty clause powder dry.

well

we can only use amnesty on players that signed contracts before the new CBA so that leaves Blatche, Lewis and the other 2nd year guys as the only amnesty candidates…

by daca on Jan 21, 2012 1:07 PM EST up reply actions

why did they extend Crawford

Hard to believe they want to pay him for another year.

by ReturnofBillyJOe on Jan 21, 2012 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

Good point

I agree that he could turn out to be a good off the bench option, I just think that there’s too much baggage in the relationship here to stick with him..I’d like to see us at least try for a restricted FA (like Eric Gordon maybe? I know he’s short for an SG; what if Kevin Love insists on that 5th yr and MIN balks?). The salary floor could be an issue if we amnesty Blatche AND buy out Lewis, but Rashard’s contract is valuable trade bait given thatfloor about half of his salary next yr is not guaranteed

I know this is all over the map..

But as bad as things are now I do see us having the flexibility to improve the roster as soon as next season with a high draft pick, cap room, and direct ways to free up even more cap space if needed..now as to the matter of who’s making the decisions…that worries me

we shall see....

but with the recent booing, even john may be worried that he will be booed if he is leading a team of losers in the near future

Blah blah

What’s going on is Ty almost lost to the supposed “team in disarray.”

If it means were gonna lose javelle and nick

Then there is noooo way flip can stay. this is starting to become boring and something might have to happen soon. If the players start to like flip and vi versa then i think we can keep him around. But nicks attitude isn’t helping anything and we can’t have that around wall and the other young kids. Its not good when your #2 star and the coach are having problems especially when he’s in a contract year. Common flip you gotta become friends with your guys

Honestly I don't even care if the players like Flip

He’s shown pretty clearly at this point he isn’t the right guy for this team. His rotations are questionable, at best, his handling of the players is immature (passive/aggressive behavior), and he seems pretty inflexible with running his system, rather than creating an offense that caters to our players’ strengths. He’s gotta go.

by jakenbake on Jan 21, 2012 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

i agree hes gotta go but atleast we have been really competitive these last dew games

He’s definitely lost most of the players. But the only good thing is that john seems to stick by him. There is no way no way no way that javelle signs with us after this year if flips here and to be honest javelle has been playing real good and constant mainly because flip isn’t letting him do the stupid shit that he was doing last year. He’s benching him when he does something bad but it actually may be helping him play better. The same CAN’T be said about blatche though, he’s plays the whole game terribly with no consequences which its no wonder javelle gets mad

Nick is gone as is Flip but Mcgee is gonna stay

Ernie knows Mcgee’s value its fine he’s not gonna allow Flip to run talent off this team. I noticed he didn’t jerk Mcgee as much last night I think Ernie read his moms comments and said to Flip don’t F around and cause my center to bolt man.

as for what Lawson is sayng ehh he doesn’t know what the inner workings of the Wizards are. Wall had one of those can’t get anything working games as far as penetrating is concerned he got in a hurry again. Wasn’t as patient.

He gave us effort though with the boards and dimes so I’m okay with Wall and how he’s developing. Just needs to refine some of his skills.

needs to get a floater asap, maybe a post game and really dribble into the mid range shot not just sorta fading on it.

and for goodness sakes practice making layups only time he makes them is when he drives with the left hand he slows himself down and finishes on the right side he just flings it to the hoop running behind the backboard.

by jazzy1 on Jan 21, 2012 1:49 PM EST reply actions   2 recs

I still think JaVale ends up staying.

Flip needs to go ASAP. I’m really hoping Blatche picks it up so we might be able to trade him. I’m not giving up on the hawks as a potential partner. With Horford out for the year I don’t think it’s that crazy to offer turiaff and Blatche for hinrichs expiring (unless there is a rule I don’t know about where Kirk could not be traded back). Kirk has been hurt anyway and won’t get a ton of burn anyway once he comes back since Teague and JJ have the backcourt locked up. This would allow you to use the amnesty on rashard and it pretty much guarantees we have the most cap space in the league plus a top 3 pick. Hopefully nick keeps this scoring up so we can get some value for him. I’d love to get a good backup big plus a pick. Nick isn’t coming back anyway, might as well get something for him. I would absolutely love to draft Anthony Davis to pair with McGee. I know he is so thin but the guy plays with a big motor and him and Vale would swat everything in sight. He understands rotations and is always working and I can’t even begin to describe how much this would help Javale. Blatche kills him when McGee steps over to help and then Javale is the one who looks bad when it’s usually blatches fault. I think Davis on O has skills that compliment javales too. He can hit the midrange, can pass, has a pretty decent handle and understands the game. If mcgees hook keeps improving it would be a great 1-2 punch in the front court. We also need to target Batum, Wallace, and Gordon in free agency. I would be happy with any of them. With our cap space I could probably sign 2 of them but I doubt that happens. Fill out the rest of the roster with veterans like Matt Barnes, and Carl landry and ur looking at a good team

by jeffco01 on Jan 21, 2012 2:06 PM EST via mobile reply actions

How come it's never a guard's fault

when a big man has to help and a second big man has to rotate? The guards are the ones allowing the penetration, but Blatche and McGee get the blame.

by hotplate on Jan 21, 2012 3:08 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

what's really interesting is that drafting Davis and signing Gordon and perhaps Batum or even Gallinari

is the type of one season overhaul that would instantly change the outlook of the franchise, as in, next fricking season they could be expected to make some noise.

but they are also moves that basically invalidate Vesely, Singleton, and Booker….so I dont think Ted will consider these FA scenarios for one second but who knows

by DCrez on Jan 21, 2012 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Which is why I think one of them will be traded as we'll

I think singleton is perfect for a 6th, 7th man role so he would still get his minutes. You are right on vesely, I don’t see where he would fit as well as booker. I like them both but I don’t let that stop me from signing those other guys.

by jeffco01 on Jan 21, 2012 4:45 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

signing Gordon, Galinari or Wilson Chandler is a pipe dream imho

We have to trade for that caliber player, draft a stud, re-sign McGee and add good veterans via FA.

That, in my opinion, is the only realistic shot we have at surrounding Wall with worthy talent.

And you're right

the logjam of mediocre talent we have will have to be pakcaged along with capspace in such a trade.

Also, Blatche needs to be amnestied, Lewis bought out and I would like to keep Nick as a sixth man but I’m afraid he is already gone mentally.

The Lawson quote has to be taken as...

league-wide conventional wisdom re the Wizards. We are in disarray, perhaps less so than we are painted. The thing is unless management does not take some steps that will fix this perception fairly quickly, the team will have a tough time recruiting veterans. Who wants to come to a team that cannot get its act together?

Fire Flip soon. Trade Blatche for someone else’s potentially useful contract woe who could do Ok in the red white and blue. Beasley, Villanueva… possibly to the Suns for Childress, playing next to Gortat and Hill will give Dray some backbone and I think Childress is still being penalized for jumping to Europe, where he actually played well in the team context. Finish the year playing hard… 25 wins would be nice… draft a stud and then free up the money for a free agent.

by khrabb on Jan 21, 2012 3:14 PM EST reply actions

I agree completely with the need for change, both in personel as in the coaching staff. This franchise is looking like a joke right now

But 25 wins in a 66 game season is like winning 31 in a 82 game regular season. That’s a bit to much. Especially since this team is significantly worse than last year’s that only won 23 games….

If we make changes, I still think 15 wins should be do-able (my pre-season prediction). However, I am not concerned with the record one bit. I wanna see change and a renewed focus on playing competatively and developing the pieces we do have.
