So we bench players for shooting the lights out
and we don’t extend centers who work hard to improve their game…
We are the Ultimate Motivators!
Flip was just
Looking out for the team. If Nick scores too much, he’ll command more money.

Not everyone was on pace
for a 60 point game, except Nick. Why sit him 8 minutes of the second quarter?
6 inch?

I'm a huge Nick YOung fan...
but be fair – Crawford played well – shot 50% (2-3 from three) -
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
crawford played well for a stretch
But should have been tanked after that awful 27 footed from the top of he key
by rgc19 on Jan 20, 2012 8:14 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
for ONE shot?
be fair…
Occasionally players need a heat check… Sure, talk to him after that shot… make sure he knows that’s a bad shot…. but yank him?
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
to me that was worse than a heat check
And it was time to put Nick back in anyways
by rgc19 on Jan 20, 2012 8:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
To be fair....
Nick Young DOES have to sit sometimes…. and not having Nick on the court sure didn’t hurt the Offense…
The big difference was the Wizards defense looked much more suspect in the 2nd quarter…. especially Wall. Lawson did just about whatever he wanted to do in that quarter…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
The big run came
when McGee went out and Ves was put at the center though, because Denver was getting multiple attempts and the Wizards weren’t getting any second looks
I agree
Didnt have a problem subbing him out. I had a problem with how long he sat. Could’ve gotten cold. Even Buck brought it up a few times.

I haven't watched the game
just checked the boxscore on ESPN.
Shelvin Mack has 5 assists in 4 minutes. How the hell?
I know it was
Unrealistic, but after that first quarter, I was really looking forward to a blowout. Flip has the worst substitutions in th world

Defense
Is a lot less effective without Singleton
Gallo was lighting him up
he hasn’t really done much tonight
8 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound (two three's) in 9 minutes
How much more did you WANT?
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
I thought he was saying we were missing Singleton's defense
my comment was strictly about how he has gotten lighten up on that end, not speaking on his offense, which has been great
Sorry for the confusion lol
should’ve been more specific
I think Lawson has done a lot more damage....
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Again
If he gets benched for giving up 13 to Gallinari, then Wall should be benched for giving up 14 to Lawson.

Did I say bench him?
Comment was we missed his defense, I said otherwise. If someone had said, we really missed Wall’s defense out there when Mack came in, would you have been mad if I said otherwise?
I'm not mad
I understand what youre saying. I think you’re right, I think Flip DID bench him cuz of Gallo scoring. My point is, Flip has awful substitution patterns.

i think i know why crawford cant be pulled
who else noticed against okc that craford did a MUCH better job on westbrook than Wall did? Ty Lawson has been having his way…….I dont think flip wants john burning all his energy trying to guard lawson
that could be....
I noticed when Nick came back in – Crawford stayed in – and they played essentially 3 guards…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
I don't think
Anybodys guarding Lawson

It's obviously Javale's fault
(Flip’s thinking?)
Seriously? What does Blatche provide?
The supposed “offense” he provides is non-existant. He’s skilled, but is overweight and can’t jump. And he’s terrible on defense. I don’t know why Flip gives him so much PT.

Oh John's jumper...
It seems like he hangs in the air way too long instead of releasing at the apex. That end of quarter shot was a prime example of it.
It's getting better
but it’s still not clean- watch his body- you can tell when he decides to launch- he stiffens and then goes into the shot instead of smoothly going into it.
by DCPerspective on Jan 20, 2012 8:51 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, it lacks "smoothness".
I wish we’d incorporate some of Hopla’s techniques like having a hat on that puts a hand in front of your face so he could get used to it.
I have a feeling that might be a habbit developed when he was younger
My theory is that he’s been double teamed alot through his life and so when he goes up for that shot usually there will be someone open so he can pass out to the open guy. I think John as a result might have developed a shooting form where it actually incorporates the possibility of a passout with it. I hope I made sense in that argument.

Oh I do but can you tell me this year 2 of a rebuild? I feel like I've been watching this movie since nick young was drafted
With different leadership we might add to that.
It’s been pointed out numerous times that different ownerships and eras affect expectations and progress.
Then go to a different theater....
This is what you get if you are a Wizards fan…. You HOPE for effort… You HOPE you can win a few games….
If you cannot do that…. take up knitting… or travel the world…. do something that is not going to make you crazy…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Look at the team 2 years ago and look at the team now
2009/10 team: Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Foye, Miller, Haywood, Oberto, Ross, Singleton, Stevenson, Thornton, Mike James, Josh Howard
2011/12 team: Wall, Singleton, Booker, Vesely, Mack, Crawford — all players with less than 2 seasons of experience.
Young, McGee, Blatche the three holdovers, young players who have gotten better. But probably only one will be here next season.
So yes, I’d say it’s year 2 of a complete rebuild
by Max Zamphirescu on Jan 20, 2012 9:36 PM EST up reply actions
but it's NOT three years from now....
It’s now…
And now is barely the second year into the rebuild… with ONE player known to be a core piece…. and a bunch of role players… no All-Stars… No Super Stars….
And you want to complain about not “winning”? With this talent?
Just wait…..
And if you just can’t wait – then root for a different team
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
REBUILD.
No one here accepts mediocrity. We’re trying to put faith in a process. We’re in year 2 and a shortened year at that. Progress is the most important thing.
True.
I hope they’re looking at tape and rehashing what went wrong so they can empower them to make better decisions in the future. We will never get an inside peek at what happens, but all I can hope is that coaching is happening. Which I believe it is.
Yeah – it looks like some players are growing up to me, as well as teammates relying on each other more. There were still some bonehead plays in the 4th (JaVale, Blatche), but that’s what we do. I DID like the way JaVale and Nick Young played though; why can’t they commit to this team? If they want to be here, that would be great for the future.
by Tbonebullets on Jan 20, 2012 9:27 PM EST up reply actions
Bonehead plays.
Make sure you include Wall’s 3 pointer, Crawford’s shot selection and not just McGee and Blatche. It’s like we cherry pick things to subconsciously based on previous performances and prejudices.
And Nick took at least one bad shot as well...
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
yeah, ok, several players made bonehead plays…then we lost. Still good effort. — I dont’ think Wall’s missed 3 was bonehead, though; we needed the points at the time. Dude’s gotta work on that.
by Tbonebullets on Jan 20, 2012 9:34 PM EST up reply actions
The reason why it was boneheaded...
was that Nick Young… who is an astronomically better shooter… was open right next to him.
I didn’t see it either…it was panic time.

Has the team committed to them?

don’t know for sure — but reports are we would have committed to Young for the right price; and I think it would be the same for JaVale. We would commit to them if they are being reasonable about price. Disagree?
by Tbonebullets on Jan 20, 2012 9:35 PM EST up reply actions
COMMITMENT
So – we expect our players to feel like the team is committed to them – but only to a certain price point?
But we expect the players to be 100% committed to the team… to the organization….
At some point during the Summer – if the Wizards REALLY, REALLY wanted to commit to Nick Young, they would have been able to get a deal done… Good organizations get deals done.
At some point, the Wizards will need to get a deal done with McGee…. Will they? I’m NOT confident they will.
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Me either — you are right that commitment goes both ways. Each side has to give if they are committed. We have no idea how the negotiations went so we don’t know if there was any give either eay. But I WILL say this: Nick insisting on $9M displays no commitment to the team, or he is overestimating his talents; 10.5-11M to Javale displays no commitment to the team, or his is overestimating his talents. And, at the point that EITHER side is being unreasonable, then it is time to walk away. That’s the business side of commitment.

A bad deal is never reasonable for anyone else.

It's the market man
Tall atheltic bigs are getting10+ mil and when more than a couple teams are willing to throw that kind of money at you it is not unreasonable…
Not terrible guys
if you told me Denver shot 49 from field and 47 from 3… I would of said we lose by 20.
I say the same thing
I said last game. I’d like to know why Singleton doesn’t play in the second half, while Blatche stinks up the joint and stays in.
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
Harrington looks like Antawn's cousin

Lets appreciate this
atleast our guys competed all 48 minutes….i’ll take this over some of those disgraceful losses when we gave up earlier this year
Yeah
Flip played better defense on him than anyone on Denver

By booing?
If that’s the case, then he doesn’t deserve to be a professional athlete making millions of dollars a year

Exactly
Children pout. He hasn’t grown up yet

Grown man getting millions of dollars
We are fans that are essentially paying his salary. We applaud effort and looking like you give a crap. If he can’t give us that, then he deserved to be booed. It’s the only way fans can really express their displeasure with someone’s play. We can’t cut him or trade him

the point has been made
people should get off his case now – he is what he is
Not true
He used to be productive.

true but
The statement was that he “is what he is”. Which isn’t true. He actually has the capability, and talent to be productive. Just not the drive.

i hope they get him traded
its not good for either side…he needs a fresh start somewhere else and the fans dont want him here
this was a poorly coached game tonight,.
Flip just killed the squad smothering Young’s good game by the long benching.
Singleton disappears.
The Wiz can't finish games yet
I don’t think they have enough players to do it.
We need someone to come off the bench that'll provide a spark AND be able to score.
Singleton looks like he could be that guy… but it hasn’t quite materialized. Jan could be that guy as well.
It should be Wall and Young along with Crawford

i really hate the coach.

yeah I don't understand that
You can’t take that extra foul home with you and make it breakfast in the morning. Let em play!

Please Grunfeld trade the Hamburglar
I don’t even want anything in return just get him out of here. He needs a fresh start and we do too. Somebody must need a talented, out of shape, post player with a jump shot. For some peanuts or a red box movie?
COMPARISON
LAWSON was better than Wall, NICK was better than AAFOLLO , and KARL was better than FLOP, a game we should have won by 10. FLOP AND WALL lost us this game.
