Wiz's problem: We have NBA quality backups Starting at the 2-3-4.

We have budding stars in John Wall and JaVale McGee. I think the Washington Wizards are set at those 2 positions.

Why are we losing? Look at our 2-3-4. Flip thinks Nick Young and Jordan Crawford are starting caliber Big Guards. Jordan "might be" someday. Nick Young is a 6th man off the bench who can light it up. He has zero game anywhere else. Look at his pathetic rebound, assist and steals numbers since he came in the league. It is horrible. (please do not tell me about his great on the ball defense).

Flip wants Lewis and Blatche to start at Forwards. Most of Wizards nation wants Singleton and Booker. Neither set gives us quality starters. When Lewis and Blatche start we are constantly down 10 to 20 points. When Singleton and Booker start they give us alot of energy but not alot of offense. All these Forwards should be coming off the bench.

We have this huge donut. Wall and McGee at the 1 and 5. No quality 2-3-4 to start the game and get Starters minutes.

Vesely will be starting soon. It is only a matter of time. The #6 pick in the draft will not be coming off the bench for long. Next years draft hopefully we will get a bonafide starting Shooting Guard or a great all around Power Forward. That's my hope. Whatever Forward position Vesely will be occupying for the next 5 years we are going to have to pick up a quality starter at the other Forward Spot. Either way we go we have to make sure that very high first round draft pick can SCORE and contribute in all other aspects of the game.

This way we can keep Lewis, Blatche, Singleton and Booker to do what their NBA makeup is: To contribute coming off the bench.

Not sure about your argument

My major problem is more that most NBA teams have players with flaws starting. You can get away with a SG that doesn’t rebound like Young,, if he plays great defense and the rest of your team is good at rebounding. You can also get by with a strong perimeter defender as your 3, like Singleton, who doesn’t have a great offensive game, if you surround him with other skilled players. Bruce Bowen instantly comes to mind. The problem is the Wizards don’t “fit” together right now.

I am also not sure we’re set at the 5. Can McGee play disciplined winning basketball? I just don’t know. That’s not to say he can’t have highlights. Shawn Kemp had loads of highlights when he and Payton took the Supersonics to the NBA championship. McGee’s understanding of the post-game is still really unrefined. He almost never passes the ball back and repositions himself. Some of the basketball IQ elements he seems to struggle with. That could be Saunder’s fault, but right now, it still makes me wonder if he’ll ever reach his ceiling,.

Additionally, McGee isn’t under contract for the long-term. I’m not sure how much he’ll get offered this year, but how much are you willing to gamble on him being a top flight center? I think 8-9 million a year would be my cap, depending on if we still have the amnesty provision left. But, if somebody offered McGee 12-14 million a year, I couldn’t justify resigning him to that. Not with his current level of play.

I'd say they're all 4th-8th men rather than bench players

You could certainly start one of them, maybe even two. But the other position needs to be filled by a good and efficient scorer. Ideally, we can add a PF in the upcoming draft that can be our go-to scorer (who actually plays hard and can score efficiently) and see how things shake out at SF with all the youngsters. I think Young is fine as a starter — just not as the #1 scoring option. Unfortunately Young is probably gone after this season, in which case we’ll need more help there as well. Crawford might become good, or he might become a guy who washed out of the NBA despite impressive talent. It’ll be a process with him, much like it was with Young.

Don’t assume anything with Vesely. He has a long way to go before he can be relied on as a starter. #6 means nothing — lots of guys who never became proven starters have been picked in the top 6.

Young could start for several teams

And will start or be the 6th man for whatever team he ends up on next year.

I think Singleton and Booker are good enough to be the 5th starter on a lot of teams — low-usage guys with lots of upside. Most teams have at least one role-playing starter.

so you let mcgee walk, then what, draft 6'10" 215 pound anthony davis and put him next to blatche?

so we can spend the next 3yrs talking about how great he’ll be once he’s gained 40 pounds?

Bigs are expensive, that’s just the nature of the league, and for every team that sees Javale as a bonehead there is a Coach/GM salivating at what they could do with him on their team. If Ted is going to be too cheap to shell out 5/$60mill on a young 7footer we’re never going to win. That is not a bad contract at all given Javale’s age and how easy it would be to move him after 2-3 years come off the deal.

Not understanding your issue

We are in rebuild mode, there are supposed to be holes in your roster, what do you suppose we don?

I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
