John Wall vs Deron Williams
For those of you saying John is gonna be a bust, that he should be traded, that this is the true John Wall, maybe you should check out Deron Williams right now...
John Wall's stats this season:
13.3 ppg 7.1 apg 4.6 rpg 4.2 topg 1.3 spg 1.0 bpg 35% fg 73.5 ft%
Deron Williams' stats this season:
18.3 ppg 8.4 apg 3.3 rpg 1.3 spg... but wait: 4.4 topg 36.6% fg
Is this the same PG we called a top 2 PG in previous years? What's going on. Why is he shooting 10% worse, why are his turnovers up a full topg?
Well, Deron is in a similar situation to Wall. Surrounded by a lack of shooters on a poor team. He is also in a system that might not fully suit him. But he is struggling horribly right now. He is playing about as bad as Wall.
So before you go condemning John Wall to a continued career of struggling, take into consideration what another great PG in a similar situation is doing right now.

What is known right now is that
JWall is struggling, however what will truly come into play is that how much of a commitment is JWall is willing to make to get himself better instead of just playing off of natural talent alone?
Derrick Rose (and others) during the offseason has been documented by going to a trainer and get better physically and mentally. Right now as we speak (or rather observe) is that JWall hasn’t shown the commitment as of yet. Rather, JWall is playing Summer League ball to stay in shape from a “street cred” perspective (via youtube/and 1 mix tape).
Hopefully JWall will figure it out how to become better overall, at this point his ‘decision making’ has come into question, and I truly hope he gets it together so he can maximize his potential/talent level.
Summer League = Street Cred.........Really?!
I thought he loved the game and was using every opportunity to stay in shape against pro competition while training in Chicago with a trainer and shooting coach. Thanks for teaching me about “street cred”. I thought it consisted of a Jerri Curl , a 40 oz. malt liquor and a rap video with a big booty heaux.Bottom line is, if you look at the stats around the league injuries are up and pg play is down. This is expected when you have a sophomore pg, a contracted season, no true finishers / pure shooters, and 2 players on your starting 5 that can create their own shot.Look, I’m no Nostrodomus;but, I thought this was predicted when he was drafted by every analyst in the league. It’s just accelerated by the fact that there’s no veterans to turn to for game contribution / leadership. As for Rubio, if you had him playing years ago, he’d be having the same issues. Why do you think he really stayed in Spain?…..Let the kid develop!

John Wall did train over this offseason
Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, these are other guys who were playing a lot of street ball this summer as well. Doesn’t mean they weren’t training in the background.
I do blame the lockout a little for John Wall not having as much progress as you would expect after one season. John is young and immature, and he hasn’t had a slap in the face by reality to tell him he can’t get by just off of talent. This season could be that slap in the face, or it might not, we shall see.
So I agree it comes down to him working hard. This offseason will be crucial. With the team being able to stay in full contact with him, and less summer league pick up games going on, it should be easier to direct him in the right direction.
Stating about training is
that playing streetball doesn’t really necessitate about training however, the summer league games were more about lack of D and showing off ones skills (passing/dunking/barking to fans etc..in a general sense), perhaps this isn’t my take of training. Granted as you stated is that Paul, Durant, Wade, James etc were perhaps training during the behind the scenes and it isn’t documented.
Perhaps the lack of patience and the lost look on the team is really taking it’s toll on JWall (as if his hard work isn’t showing it’s effort in what he’s putting forth).
This is exactly spot on.
I noticed the same similarities in stats and situations between Wall and Deron.
Wall’s turnovers will drop and assists increase just by adding better players, without any individual improvement.
2000 shots a day
Here John says he makes 2000 shots a day. You can choose to believe or not it’s going to change reality. All the Wiz can do know is try to improve the players around him and hope that Wall gets out of his funk and ultimately reaches his potential. I really think people are over reacting.
Who is the last player in the NBA who never improved from their rookie season. Even a marginal improvement for Wall over his rookie season would be good enough to be a starting point on a championship level team.
