Is John Wall even a PG?
I have heard a number of people talk about Wall as a "combo-guard", someone with the size and speed and ball-handling skills to play both the 1 and the 2. John's problem is his turnovers. He just doesn't see the court very well and I am not sure if this is something that can be taught. I won't even begin to blame Wall for how bad the team is. They need new coaches, and have almost no talent, but he just doesn't seem to be a point guard. If he were to improve his shot, could he be a 2?

Right now, he's an undersized SG
He doesn’t have a “point guard handle” and when he drives all the way to the rim, he’s usually looking for his own shot instead of finding wide open teammates.

I could've sworn just last season
we were talking about how John was too passive around the rim. Usually the only time he gets to the rim this season, he is on a fast break, with no other Wizards in sight.
I don't see how he isn't a point guard
He does have handle issues, especially picking his dribble up too much.
But his first instinct is to pass, and his passing ability is top notch. A lot of his turnovers come off of being out of control, which is not a PG issue, but just a player issue. When he slows down, he’s less turnover prone.
I also don’t get the “doesn’t see the court very well” comment. Just last game he was finding people all over the court. The only thing he doesn’t see sometimes is the player waiting to jump in the passing lanes, but that again usually comes down to him being out of control.
So yes, imo he’s a point guard. He is a young one though, who has much to learn.
He had better be a PG
Cuz he certainly ain’t a SG otherwise the team would be forever screwed.

Wall was 7th in the league in assists last year (yes… SEVENTH). I don’t know what John Wall you’ve been watching for the past 2 seasons but again, this is not a very good question, in my opinion. He has a horrible team around him… obviously he’s not Rubio or Nash in passing ability but he’s as good a passer as Rose or Irving or even Westbrook who is much more selfish than Wall (and many would argue he’s better passer than those 3). He’s a PG… his handle is average right now but it’ll improve by just playing. His finishing has been his problem this year. He has missed far too many lay ups, I didn’t expect his jumper to be great this year but I expected him to make his lay ups. That’s the main thing that needs to improve.

Problem is
He needs to be an elite passer to justify his low shooting % and low scoring.

the shooting percentage will improve
and the scoring would be there if this was a better team (less attention on him). He’s not gonna become a Nash or Rondo passer but he’ll be fine. He’s gonna be a great PG and his passing is above average, pairing that with his atheleticism and his age (only 21) will make him great. But if Ted doesn’t find a way to put effective pieces around him, he won’t be great for us because he’ll leave…

Being a pointguard is about more than getting assists.
It’s about controlling the tempo of the game. John can’t do that yet.
Ofcourse Nash is the master at controlling tempo, Rubio already showed me that he can and it’s exactly why a guy like Calderon is a much better PG than people give him credit for.

Ridiculous
There are a lot of things missing in Wall’s game at this stage, but the most glaring is he cannot shoot. So make him a shooting guard. Great idea!
