Impact Basketball League Update: John Wall Hits Jumpers, Jordan Crawford Gets Buckets
We're three days into the Impact Basketball League. Here's what's been happening.
- John Wall made his one and only appearance on Wednesday, and boy was he impressive. He dropped 42 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Most importantly, he was hitting his jump shot! Woo woo! According to BallisLife, he even taunted his opponents by saying "Ya'll better guard me, that's my new secret now."
- For more on Wall and the league, this was an interesting read by Ben Golliver.
- In Wall's absence, Jordan Crawford has been very solid. He dropped 28 points and 10 rebounds in the team's second game on Tuesday, leading the way for the Wiz squad. With Wall on the team Wednesday, Crawford took a backseat and scored just 15 points. Apparently, he's also been trash talking a lot.
- JaVale McGee came by yesterday, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. However, his counterpart, Marreese Speights of the Philadelphia 76ers, scored 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dunked on him twice.
- Rashard Lewis has put up some good numbers in the first two games. He had 17 in the opener, 29 (with 13 rebounds) in the second game. He slumped to seven points, though, in the third game.
- Nick Young has yet to play in any of the games.
Full stats for the Wizards' players in all three games below the jump. These are unofficial and may be off by a couple points or so.

McGee better not be too worked up on getting dunked on
our stereotype of him shows him as a guy who only wants to dunk, dribble down court and take a long J (he actually can do that much better than most guys his size but I only want to see him do it when it’s absolutely necessary which is almost never), and block shots to the Volkswagen Penthaus
Now serving: Kool-Aid
Have they started shipping new WIz uni’s yet?

The replicas are available at Dick's
but the swingman jerseys aren’t available yet, and I ordered mine back in May.
Great
Thanks Mike! I was waiting for this! Micheal Lee also writes that Josh Howard will come to Vegas next week to give it a go. If he’s healthy, I really would like to see him back with the Wiz. But I realize I’m probably the only one around here who feels that way.

Pretty solid numbers from Mack
He brings some defensive toughness that the Wiz sorely need. If training camp opens next month it’ll be interesting to hear what Flip says about him.
Flip has been known to fawn over hard working athletically limited PGs in the past…LLS.

Pretty solid numbers from Owens too!

Yeah
I thought the Wiz should bring back Jeffers. But somehow Othyus has disappeared during this summer. Maybe Owens is making a case for himself here.

Both will be back
They got QO’s from Ernie just before the draft. Unlikely that any other team will go over the QO for their services.

Mack has a 39 inch vertical
Don’t let the physique fool you, this guy can get up, he just plays a below the rim game.

Here's the Day 3 recap:

Layup by Crawford at 1:23 is one of the most acrobatic I’ve ever seen.
1:26 is the spin 2-handed dunk by JaVale someone was looking for.

Two things
Isaiah Thomas can ball…I think he was a steal for the Kings—too bad he’s gonna have to fight for minutes with all those combo gaurds.
People will see why the Knicks took Shumpert in the first round. He can gaurd/play 3 positions legitimately. And it looks like he’s been working on that jumper…
My Bad
DCrez already posted a recap on the first comment. Didn’t see it.

Wall's jumper is beginning to start looking a bit wet...
I like…
btw-does anyone else get the sense Nick is starting to separate from the team due to an eventual moving on…I guess he and Pierre still hang out, but who knows…
how much should Nick really play given he is a FA?
health is the most important thing for NY

Here's some other players you won't see.
Tyson Chandler, Nene, David West, Carl Landry , Tayshaun Prince, Jason Richardson, Jamal Crawford, Shane Battier, Andrei Kirilenko
And any other Free Agent that has a chance in hell of getting a half way decent offer next year…
The last thing you want to do as a FA is get hurt in the off-season.
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Kirilenko's playing in the eurobasket for russia though...

and going full tilt at that...
He was bowling over Serbs like tenpins. Let us see how he does against the Bleu Frogs today. I think his match-up against Hot-Plate Diaw will be fun. Maybe Keveen will get a shot at him too (he sat out against Greece).
On that note, don’t you think some NBA owner ought to give David Blatt a shot at a head coaching job? The guy really, really understands the game and if a hyper-intense Jewish guy from Ny can get the attention and respect of 15 Russian toughs, he will do fine with NBA players.

But then hes got insurense via the Russion team

would be nice if Vesely develops into a Kirilenko type of player
he is a guy that just does a little bit of everything and every team could use a guy like that!
and David Blatt is a great coach i think he could very well be an NBA coach.
Seraphin didn’t log a single minute today and i doubt it that he will get any minutes in the finals…
And it sucks that serbia got kicked out. but as i was watching and rooting for them i had the same feeling as when i was watching a wiz game lol. especially after todays game against greece i caught my self screaming for McGee to get that rebound (while Kosta Perovic didn’t grab the ball with both hands). After that 34-8 first quarter it felt like the wiz getting blown out by a top team like the spurs.
More good news from Impact

we are angry about that most of the time
But here, I like that actually and the further away they are, the better.

I can't believe it- JaVale actually pump-faked. Twice.
Not that he fooled anybody… but that was one more pump fake from him than in all the games I saw last season.
If he does nothing else this offseason except actually learn to fake his man off his feet, and also get his free throws up to 70%, he will take a big step forward at the offensive end.

I saw a crooked little hook shot that he hit too. Progress?
I'm a Wizards fan. We've been trying to tell you about Lebron for years. Hated the man before it was cool.

that spin move was lightning fast too, crazy quicks for a guy over 7'
at some point we’ll have to accept Pierre will always be a better offensive player than defensive
Woah I wouldn't say that
He has offensive potential just like he does defensively.
I think the offensive end is a little bit easier to fix for him right now. But really, it comes down to decision making with him…. On both ends.
