Other teams you'll be interested in whenever basketball starts up again

Portland: I wanna see how Aldridge does being the leader of his team for the whole year and seeing how Roy bounces back. I'd interested in seeing how good that team can be with Gerald Wallace and Ray Felton being there for a full season and seeing Batum and Wesley Matthews.

Minnesota: Just wanna see Williams, Rubio and Beasley

New York: Stat and Carmelo can do some damage in the East if they get a more productive supporting cast and play better team defense.

Sacramento: I think Tyreke is gonna have a great year, plus they added Hickson, that kid Honeycut and Jimmer. I think DeMarcus will also be a force and more efficient, could probably average a double double if he adjust to staying out of foul trouble.

Which players/teams ya'll gonna look at for?

All of them at this point

I just hope this lockout ends.

I have really had it with this lockout business.

If this was the off season I would be pretty borred at this point. Now, instead of sitting here, wanting the season to start already, I’m hoping for an actual off season to begin with…

Ofcourse, we as hardcore fans will always return and hand over our money anyway.. The casual fan won’t really miss it until there are actual games lost and might never come back and since they’re not that attached to it. They might never come back and just do/watch something else.

That and the fact that players don’t want to lose actual pay checks are my hope that both parties will come closer over the next month.

I'm actually ok with the lockout

If games are missed or a whole season I wouldn’t even be upset, just less games where I’ll see Dray shooting 20 foot jumpers every possession, Javale trying to dunk over people from the line, or either of the 2 looking clueless when trying to box out.

At least for college basketball I’ll get to see whatever player(s) this team will be eventually drafting..

Just kidding ;)

I'm not the only person that's skeptic over his team lol

but at least in the 2012 draft this team could get

http://www.dailycampus.com/sports/drummond-is-now-enrolled-1.2572698

heard this phenom Mr. Drummond going to UConn.. maybe he’ll live up to all the hype he’s been getting

if he lives up to the hype.. he'll be one and done cause he'll be the consensus number one pick

hopefully.. Stern could rig the lottery for this team to get that number 1 pick again

If the one and rule doesn't change

and we have no NBA season but are guaranteed one in 2012-2013, the draft could be rigged so Miami wins the #1 pick…….

by thewiz06 on Sep 3, 2011 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the league would most likely do like the NHL but a lil different

If there’s no season and they still wanna have a 2012 draft they might as well just accumulate the records of every team in the league the past 3 years then the 14 teams with the worst record are in the lottery with the other 16 teams going in order from worst to best.. but it’s flawed cause then teams like the Grizz and Knicks will get a shot at a number one pick cause they useto be bad

.. then you do the whole ping pong thing.. but it’ll be rigged.. like always lol

Charlotte

Just because of Rich Cho. Everyone else will have to wait until after free agency.

by djnnnou on Aug 30, 2011 6:38 PM EDT reply actions

I would look at Oklahoma in the west

and in the east, I’d say NY and NJ. NY has their big three set, and NJ finally has a franchise player for a true contender

by thewiz06 on Aug 30, 2011 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

I think the Clippers are poised to make a jump in the standings...

Blake Griffin is already a beast…
Eric Gordon, Eric Bledsoe, Mo Williams and Randy Foye make up a pretty good back court.

But this is an in intriguiging team with a lot of interesting story lines…

Can Al-Farouq Aminu improve enough to be the starter at Small Forward?

Always one of the most athletic Centers in the League, DeAndre Jordan surprised me by improving his defensive awareness to go along with his tremendous physical gifts. He’s limited offensively, pretty much just a dunker – but Tyson Chandler proved that there’s room on a contending team for a Center that rebounds and plays defense. Can Jordan continue to improve his defensive rotations and rebounding?

Where will the Clippers’ draft pick Trey Thompkins get his playing time?

Can the Clippers move Chris Kaman and get something good back?

The Clips are a good young team, developmentally about a year ahead of the Wizards but a year behind Memphis and two behind OKC. All those teams could be vying for contention 3 years from now…

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

Too bad they traded their 1st round pick unprotected

They would’ve had this lineup:

PG: Irving/Davis/Bledsoe
SG: Gordon/Foye/Warren
SF: Vet signing/Gomes/Aminu
PF: Griffin/Diogu/Smith
C: Jordan/Kaman

And add in the fact that they might receive two top 10 picks this season (if they tank, if they don’t finish in the bottom ten worse teams, their pick goes to Boston).

Starts drooling

What is so special about that boy Irving?

I don’t really get the hype behind the kid, he hasn’t proved anything. I’ll believe it when I see it.

But also if the Clippers didn’t trade their pick, it wouldn’t have been number 1 cause we all know the lottery is obviously rigged, and Stern just wanted to give pity on the Cavs cause of Lebron’s decision, too bad they they wasted those pics by not choosing Derrick Williams and taking someone other than that bum Tristan Thompson at number 4.

What I'm looking for is.....

…large improvements in the “simple rating” from 82games.com for Wall, Crawford and McGee.

See last year’s ratings: http://www.82games.com/1011/1011WAS.HTM

My guesses are that:

Wall goes from -2.8 to 2.
Crawford goes from -3.5 to 0.
McGee goes from 2.7 to 4.

Young and Blatche are probably near their peak.

Vesely will probably end up below -3.

The team wouldn’t make the playoffs with those performances. But their record wouldn’t be so bad as to get a high pick. This would not be a good outcome.

EG needs to figure out how to build a better core by getting a young shooter at the 3 and a young defender/rebounder at the 4.

by Izman on Aug 31, 2011 8:51 AM EDT reply actions

This is probably true

Which sucks.

I'm a Wizards fan. We've been trying to tell you about Lebron for years. Hated the man before it was cool.

by returnofswagger on Aug 31, 2011 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

82 games stat and advanced stats are irrelevant

and the type of core this team would need to build is basically get a versatile wing that can score, pass and rebound, and get an all star caliber big.. pretty simple to break it down.

also get role players who can defend and rebound

unlike Yi, Al Thornton, and whatever other bums they had coming off the bench last season

The Grizzlies

They had an outstanding year last year, and now Rudy Gay is back from injury. I think they’re probably the 3rd best team in the west right now.

Crazy but true

If you made that comment a year ago nobody would have ever taken you seriously.

Spurs

Suns
T’Wolves
Kings

I think the old timers of the West are mostly on their downslopes.

LA, SA, and even Dallas, are past their primes. OKC, and Memphis are the leading up-and-comers. The rest is very interesting. Nobody knows what Houston or Denver or Utah or the Clippers might become. And I would count on at east one of those old-timers to make a major move or two over the next year.

I'm a Wizards fan. We've been trying to tell you about Lebron for years. Hated the man before it was cool.

by returnofswagger on Aug 31, 2011 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Denver should be rebuilding and drafting a franchise player, Utah is rebuilding, Clippers still need a 3rd star, Utah is rebuilding, Houston is stuck in mediocrity

and right now the Kings have a better team than the wolves, suns and warriors, but the Grizzlies could become a contender next year.. probably make the conference finals

Is it because they in some ways overachieved from one playoff series win?

I agree with you, but I believe Randolph is a FA and he was huge in the playoff run.

Thats why people think Rudy Gay is going to be traded in order to resign Marc Gasol.

trading Rudy is going backwards lol

I don’t think people understand the fact that with Rudy they probably would’ve beaten the Thunder to get to the conference finals.. the Grizzlies have the better all around team than the Thunder easily with Conley, Mayo, Gay, Randolph and Marc.. Oklahoma only got 3 players who consistently score in double digits.

O, I agree

If their owner is committed to winning they should just resign Gay and go deep into the luxury tax. That is, if there a luxury tax ofcourse.

they play just as well vs Thunder without Rudy as they do with him.

2-0 vs Thunder during reg season without Rudy. By the end of the postseason many people were arguing they were a better team without Rudy because offense went through their Bigs instead him

Timberwolves and Knicks

The Wolves have such a fascinating mix of guys that I feel like they’re going to be the most must-see team on league pass, or at the very least the most entertaining team in a while that doesn’t crack the 20 win barrier.

The Knicks are always fascinating imo, even during the ZBo and Starbury era. I actually totally fell in love with the Gallinari/Felton/Amare/Fields team, but this Melo/Amare one is still pretty interesting.

Golden State and Philly should be interesting to watch this year, too. I’m a big Jrue Holiday fan and Monta Ellis is one of my favorite guys to watch.

Ugh the Wolves are always one of the most boring teams to watch.

But I do like the Knicks…and tthe Kings because I’m a huge ’Reke fan.

Princeton

Just noticed that Minnesota hired Rick Adelman to be their next head coach. I’ll be curious to see how their collection of misfit toys fits with the Princeton. Beasley and Anthony Randolph are still only 22. Darko is only 26.

I think they can improve slightly

but at most I think they win 28 games
