Even more marvelously unbalanced

than you might think, since the fans voted on the starting 5 at the CoachCal.com site.

Check out this starting 5 for tomorrow night’s game in Louisville. Joining Wall will be Rajon Rondo and Brandon Knight… No surprise who has the most votes!

Still- seeing Rondo and Wall together at the same time tonight could be fun… get out and… run!

No stream for me.

CLicked on the link and it brought me to an old news report about the event.

TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol

Wall's not great off the ball

Not a real issue in a Flip offense, but I’d love to see him be a better cutter so he can be dangerous with a big holding the ball in the high post.

It is an issue

When Crawford and Wall play together…

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Aug 15, 2011 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions

But

Wall should get better playing off the ball (coming off screens, catch-and-shoot) as he gains experience…

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Aug 15, 2011 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

The weird thing though

Is given the way Wall talks about him, he really likes playing with Crawford, even though their games don’t seem as compatible.

by Mike Prada on Aug 15, 2011 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

There is really really something to this

Not only does Wall like it, we won games when Crawford started (to the tune of 9-9 I believe?).

I understand the theory that Nick fits Wall really well and all, like Nick brings shooting that Wall doesn’t, spaces the floor for Wall penetration, doesn’t need the ball in his hands, etc…. But there I think there might be something that I can’t put numbers to, that makes the Crawford-Wall duo successful in the future and even last year.

Ohhh my God.

Where is my FACE? I CANT FEEL MY FACE!!!

by returnofswagger on Aug 15, 2011 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I think its so much more than that.

Wall isn’t afraid of work. And I doubt the pressure to perform is much of a factor with that guy.

It could be the energy and tempo that gets cranked up when a player like JCraw hits the floor. It could be that players are a little bit more active when they know another guy is looking to set them up(even if he isn’t always looking to pass, its always possible). This could all be total BS, I know…

I know and agree, comparing Young and Crawford is not a comparison at all right now. Eye test tells me Nick is a much better defender and a better player.
But the eye test also tells me that the team was better the last quarter of last season when Crawford played.

Ohhh my God.

Where is my FACE? I CANT FEEL MY FACE!!!

It's also very hard to know

WHY the team was better the last 18 or so games….

Was it that John Wall was finally healthy again at the end of the year?
Was it the energy of the D-League guys, Owens and Jeffers?
Was it the youngsters finally “getting it”?
Was it because Blatche was finally in shape?
Was it the natural progression of a young team meshing?
Was it the fact that the schedule finally gave them a break? (Jan & Feb were brutal).

Nah – why use “context” – Look at only the simple answer – That it was 100% Jordan Crawford’s higher “energy” and better passing than the other Shooting Guard the Wizards employed earlier in the year?

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Aug 15, 2011 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Wasn't Blatche hurt towards the end of the year?

And I realize it might have been a little bit of good ole experience. But they went from a pretty pitiful team, to a .500 team, all without the magnificent Nick Young? All the while, the terrible Jordan Crawford filling in at SG…???

Or it could have been the D-league guys that turned a .280 team into a .500 team. Yeah. Likely.

Maybe it was a bunch of things coming together. Yours are all just as ‘maybe’ as mine. But what you can’t shoot down is that Jordan Crawford was starting at SG through it. Nick Young was not. I think there is something pretty significant to that. Apparently you don’t like the sound of that.

Ohhh my God.

i thought andray

was healthy and put up insane numbers at the end of the year?

by Meraj Chowdhury on Aug 15, 2011 11:53 PM EDT up reply actions

He played great at the end of the season

In April he averaged 23 and 10 on 50% shooting.

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 8:28 AM EDT up reply actions

or does that success come with J Craw as the PG and Wall the SG?

i think mike is on to it with the idea Wall liked having another guy who could run the point and let him take a break. But then in the crunch of course Wall wants the ball. But so does JC and on several occasions he didnt give it up even with Wall calling for it. I think Crawford is more suited to pushing Wall than Nick…JC needs the ball in his hands and plays the role of scoring PG moreso than traditional SG imho

by DCrez on Aug 16, 2011 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions

You could be on to something

In looking at the videos this summer, Wall appears serious and driven.

McGee and Young look like they are just trying to have a good time.

Who knows what Blatche is thinking and doing?

This dynamic plays\ed out during the season as well.

It could be the chemistry between Wall and Crawford is much better than between Wall and proverbial knuckleheads, simply because Crawford is driven like Wall.

It’s not likely that EG will do anything about this issue, but it could lurk under the surface for quite a while.

by Izman on Aug 16, 2011 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Why

do you say McGee and Young are just trying to have a good time? Have you seen Nick is working out all this offseason? Don’t you remember seeing all the vids of him working out last season?

And last season Nick was one of the most fired up players on the squad, he brought A LOT of energy. He is certainly driven.

Just because Nick goofs off a lot doesn’t mean he doesn’t work hard. Gilbert Arenas was praised for being one of the leagues hardest working players for years, and at the same time he was labeled as one of the leagues biggest goof balls…

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 10:02 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Goofballs, as you say, ...

…put entertainment over winning. Arenas was classic. He would work hard, but not at what it took to win (namely, defense). It would seem that McGee and Young are more passionate about making the highlight reel with a dunk or block, than winning. It’s something to watch. Clearly, Wall expressed displeasure with some teammates last year.

by Izman on Aug 16, 2011 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Gilbert wasn't a great defender

but you blame this on his goof ball mentality? I disagree, Gilbert just didn’t play defense because he was offensive minded. Even some players without a goof ball mentality only try to play on one side of the ball.

So what does Nick Young do? He has worked hard to improve his defense. He learned a completely new way to play at the desire of his coach. He works hard during the offseason, has improved his shot, and made good strides in his career. Seems like he wants to win to me…

And most players get more excited over a dunk or block than a regular play, that doesn’t mean that they don’t want to win. John Wall looked like a depressed stone faced player half the time until he did something exciting, like dunk, or get an alley oop… Should we criticize him for not getting more excited over big plays too?

One of the most excited attitudes I ever saw Nick in was last season when he hit a clutch jumper that won us the game in an overtime game… Now was that because he hit a highlight shot, or because it was the shot that won the game? Nick cares about winning, he’s just a goof ball by nature that loves to play ball. Did you see him goofing off after all those road losses? I sure didn’t.

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Ohhh my god.

Nick was excited because he hit a game winning jumper…. That’s your argument? And TO celebrates touchdowns because he’s helping his team win… Same concept I believe.

And with the Gilbert thing, Gilbert didn’t really goof off too much on the court. And he had his cold-blooded assassin moments more than anybody else on this team will in the near future.

This really doesn’t always have to turn into a Crawford vs. Young discussion. My point was that I like what I see when Crawford and Wall played together(all of the necessary Crawford improvements aside).

Ohhh my God.

Where is my FACE? I CANT FEEL MY FACE!!!

by returnofswagger on Aug 16, 2011 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes that was my argument

As can be seen since that was all I said…

As far as Gilbert, I wasn’t the one saying he was a goof ball on the court, just in case you thought I was.

And I never relied to your point, I was replying to lzman bringing up Nick’s so called lack of drive during the off season.

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Clearly, Wall expressed displeasure with some teammates last year.

I’d say he expressed displeasure at losing more than certain individuals.

by Mike Prada on Aug 16, 2011 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions

That was after the Pacers and Sixers blowout

In both games, Nick shot poorly.

In the first game, he got the same amount of rebounds as Dray, getting 5.

In the second game, he got the same amount of rebounds as Dray, getting 2… Javale got 3…

In both games, Nick’s matchups were held in check, including Iguodala, one of the best SGs in the league.

The next game, Nick Young Dropped 38 on the Heat…

Just some facts I thought I’d throw out there on this issue.

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

There is an obvious difference in drive

When you watch Nick Young and Jordan Crawford on the court. Nobody said anybody doesn’t work hard.

You guys can bend the words to put it however the hell you wanna put it. But do you really not see a difference between Wall and Crawford’s on-court-demeanor and Nick and Javale’s on-the-court demeanor.

You can say it shouldn’t make a difference. But you can’t say that it doesn’t make a difference to John Wall.

Ohhh my God.

Where is my FACE? I CANT FEEL MY FACE!!!

by returnofswagger on Aug 16, 2011 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Well first of all

Let’s not make John Wall out to be god here. He was one of the biggest pouters we had last season, remember, he even asked Flip to start fining him over it because he knew he needed to break out of it. His on-the-court demeanor struggled as well.

As far as Young goes, I’m not seeing this bad demeanor your talking about, but that’s just me. Crawford is a stone face killer, he doesn’t display much emotion, he just does his thing and hopes your along the ride with him. His energy seems high because the pace he plays on offense.

Again, Nick, on the court, was one of our most animated and fired up guys last season. He brought plenty of energy on a lot of nights. I can’t see Jordan’s demeanor being any better to be honest from what I saw. He just played with a fierceness when he had the ball which helped at times, and got him in trouble at times.

Cousins, for three, bwahaha

Love the announcer saying his “legs” failed him. Right. What about the voice in his head saying that was a good shot?

by Mike Prada on Aug 15, 2011 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

No I'm not posting this as a joke

Just because he’s our “franchise” player and the #1 pick last year means I can’t talk about his flaws? Too many Wizards fans make John Wall out to be a god. He’s not indefensible to criticism.

He’s really talented, but he still has a lot of things to work on. If he doesn’t work on all his flaws, he’s not going to reach his top potential, which is MVP-caliber IMO.

How in the world is this Dominican Republic team

not going to make the Olympics?

Wall and Co. still have time to step it up… but I would hate to see where they would be without Big Cuz.

they played bledsoe/wall/rondo for good stretches, and got gs warrior-like results and they played 1st qtr all star game defense lol

Cousins is NOT quicker than Blatche

that is when Blatche is in shape. Dray plays softer though and likes to attack fro the perimeter, while Cousins does most of his from the post, even though he settles for a lot of jumpshots.

But AB is every bit as skilled as Cousins. They’re both good passers, and Cousins is stronger, but isn’t very athletic. AB is quicker and more athletic, and is a better shooter.

lol…i guess blatche has never been in shape then. more athletic?!?!?! with slow feet?

hilarious

by skeeta on Aug 16, 2011 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Blatche doesn't have much hops

But he is pretty quick. Go back and watch a lot of that run he had at the end of the 2010 season, most of his moves were very quick spin moves around the defender. His ball handling and quickness are pretty good for a PF. He’s like Carl Landry, not the best leaper, but has good quick moves to put the ball in the hoop.

by gray16 on Aug 16, 2011 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions

And Demarcus

isn’t the most athletic guy in the gym either. He doesn’t have much hops nor quickness.
