trading for josh smith and dwight howard?
Leaving John Wall untouched....should the wizards do what ever it takes to trade for josh smith and dwight howard...both of which don't want to stay with their respective teams. The both also have grown up playing basketball together and would bring a defensive minded approach to the wizards. This would be the greatest trio this team has ever seen. Not to mention what john wall would bring to the table. What more could we ask for....

Yes
But how about we focus on just Dwight Howard for now? He’s impossible enough to get without adding Josh Smith.
Hey Atlanta....
How about you give us Josh Smith for Jordan Crawford and give us another 1st round pick.
Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.

Yes for Dwight Howard.
But I just don’t think that we have enough assets to acquire both Howard and Smith.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
I like the ideaof acquiring Howard
but I don’t think we have enough assets to acquire both. I’d rather have Dray anyway.
Please Clarify
You would rather have Andray Blatche over either Dwight Howard or Josh Smith? If I understand you correctly, that’s some serious homerism.

You would rather have Dray over Howard or Smith?
Are you sure about that?

Definitely not over Howard
but I would take him over Smith. Most of you guys just don’t realize how good he can be when he’s in shape and healthy. I think he has the best combination of size, handles, jumpshot, and post moves out of any NBA big man.

Josh Smith is a better rebounder and "fits" more to the team's style of play IMO.
I just don’t think we should have to tell a 6 year vet to stay in shape over the summer.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
He didn't just let himself go, he broke his foot and couldn't run anymore.

Ok, but when Kyrie Irving broke his foot he still manage to stay in shape by doing workouts in the pool.

"In his first media availability since suffering his injury in New Jersey during an early season victory against Butler, Irving said Sunday that Nike has provided him with a special shoe to help prevent further damage to his toe. He added that he has been running and doing water therapy to help improve his stamina."

He didn't look in shape to me in the tourney. It was brave to come out there, but he didn't look great.
Also he broke his toe. That’s serious, but not as serious as breaking your actual foot.
He didn't look in shape?!
He had a great game against Arizona.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Sample size.
Dray had some really good crisp looking games early into his return from injury too. There’s simply not enough there to make a judgement on whether Irving stayed in shape or not. We only have three games to go on. I’m not knocking Irving, I’m just saying… So using him to recriminate Dray on his poor conditioning is an unsupportable argument. And an unnecessary one; it suffices to point out that the man was out of shape…
Its also a poor argument because the nature of the injuries is sufficiently different. There was no specially fitted shoe available to Dray.
And Mike, he’s a better player than Blatche, so it stands to reason he looked better. I mean, I would hope he did…

I'm not saying that the injuries are the same.
I’m just saying that there are alternative workouts you could do while recovering from injury.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Right. And the available workouts depend on the injury.
I’m not trying to making excuses for Dray… He made his own bed. Perhaps he could’ve spent the entire summer in the pool. But its hard to make any conclusive determination of how hard he worked (or partied…) last offseason without inside knowledge.
His poor conditioning last season is at least partially his fault. Perhaps even mostly his fault. I don’t deny that at all. The reality is that his conditioning is the result of several offseasons of poor work ethic, not just the one. Its possible that he worked his butt off last offseason but it wasn’t enough to overcome the combo of the foot and several years of lackadaisality.
But I can tell you this, not trusting that foot could lead to the appearance of even poorer conditioning. For example, failing to make a defensive rotation (or settling for a jumper) because you’re scared to put pressure on that foot.
i dont think
we have enough assets to acquire either… and considering the lockout/ our restricted free agent situation i think this idea is pretty impractical now… maybe a 5 year plan???

While we are making those moves we might as well trade for Kevin Kolb as well.

We are Not Getting Either of Those Guys

Yes
But we definitely don’t have enough assets in my mind to get both.
Maybe a package of Mcgee, Vesley, two 1st rounders would get Orlando to talk to us, but I doubt it.
If Howard tells Orlando he's walking in Free Agency.....
What is Orlando supposed to do? Let him walk away with absolutely NO compensation?
What other team can offer the package of young talent, Lottery draft picks, and cap savings that the Wizards can?
The Lakers can offer a trade of Odom and Bynum (plus scraps) for Howard and Arenas – but does that trade help Orlando rebuild? or just keep them middling good enough to make the playoffs each year? (7th seed hell)…?
The Wizards could offer JaVale McGee PLUS either Crawford or Young PLUS either Singleton or Vesely PLUS the expiring contract of Rashard Lewis PLUS a First round Lottery pick in a loaded draft…
Find a better deal than that….
New Jersey? (Brook Lopez at the end of his Rookie Contract looking to get paid … plus what? Jordan Farmar? Anthony Morrow? and a First round pick?) – not much on that roster to like if you’re Orlando…
New York? They don’t have their 2012 or 2014 draft picks… and cannot trade their 2013 pick.. so they can only offer players…. Landry Fields? Toney Douglas? Renaldo Balkman? the Knicks don’t stand a chance to land Howard if he’s traded away in a sign-and-trade deal….
Chicago? They have a chance…. but will they choose to dismantle their winning formula to go after Howard? I would if I were them… They can offer a combination of young and veteran players as good or better than the Wizards package…. without the high draft pick, of course… Also, they cannot offer the same level of cap relief – but they could package any number of players: Joakim Noah, Boozer, Deng, Omer Asik, Taj Gibson, etc…
Boston? Very little on that roster that Orlando would want (as a rebuilding team)… Jeff Green? Glen Davis? Avery Bradley? Late first round draft picks?
I think the Wizards have a very attractive package to offer Orlando… If Dwight Howard could be persuaded to sign-and-trade and come to Washington to play with John Wall and Vesely (or Singleton) and Young (or Crawford) – I think it could be the start of a Championship run…
It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibilities – and in my mind, Washington has more assets to offer than other teams…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

Where can he go though?
Certainly not anywhere right now. Plus, the state income tax in Florida is comfortable and the Magic have spent willingly on him.
And LeBron had it made in Cleveland...
where they bent over backwards to get the players BronBron wanted on the team…..
It didn’t keep him from leaving…
Carmello left a Playoff team to go to New York… Which, in my estimation, was NOT a Playoff team…
Chris Paul will leave New Orleans – even if NO can pay him more than someone else… he’s still leaving…
If Orlando doesn’t want to lose Howard to Free Agency – they’ll be looking to trade him at the February trade deadline – BEFORE he can opt out in the Summer of 2012…. and leave without any compensation.
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
He didn't have it made in Cleveland.
He was still in Cleveland…
[x] poorly executed joke about how Cleveland sucks
What other team can offer the package of young talent, Lottery draft picks, and cap savings that the Wizards can?
Portland.
Marcus Camby, last year of his contract, 10mil.
Raymond Felton, last year of his contract, ~8mil.
(I want to say Gerald Wallace is in his last year also, but maybe not.)
Wesley Matthews.
Nicolas Batum.
And the biggest wild card in the NBA, Greg Oden. Assuming he signs his 1-year offer, at worst he’s another 8mil off the books. At best, they get Howard’s defense/rebounding with offensive upside.
Plus, if it comes down to a trade, Orlando will try like Hell to force Arenas on the other team. Paul Allen can sign paychecks all day without blinking an eye. If Portland offers to take Arenas, and Orlando has the courtesy to not ask for the moon, I could see something happening.

I'm guess the Laker deal would be more attractive unless Orlando is willing to bottom out.
Bynum and Gasol would take a lot of the sting out of losing Howard. It would keep Orlando in the playoffs and get rid of Agent Zero’s dead weight. It might make sense for Orlando to look to bottom out, but only if the new CBA has a hard cap. If they still have a mid-level exemption to work with they have the advantage of being a playoff team, having no state income tax and FL weather all working for them. It’d piss me off to see Howard on the Lakers, but I’d see that as more likely than Otis Smith accepting McGee, Crawford, Vesley, an expiring contract and a lottery pick. Building for the future is easy to accept when you currently suck, but really hard to accept when you’re in denial about being a contender.
600 N First Ave "like a Pirate's cove".
The Laker package
strands Orlando in the low seeded (6-8 seed), Playoff hell – which is extremely hard to get out of…. (see Washington Wizards, circa 2005-2009) – Almost impossible to get enough cap room to go after an impact Free Agent – stuck with Mid-Level Exception type players… Drafting 18th (or worse) and picking either high upside/low basketball skill players or trading away First Round draft picks for bench players …….
NO – if they’re smart, and if they really think Dwight Howard will leave, they need to completely rebuild from the foundation up… Like the Wizards did. That means they should look to trade for promising young players, draft picks and Cap Space
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Right now...
Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philadelphia are stuck in low-seed Playoff hell… Orlando would join them if they traded Dwight Howard for Bynum/Odom – or Gasol/Odom… or even Gasol/Bynum..
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Rook...
I was wondering if we are going to attempt to get Dwight (which I don’t think we are), could we switch Gilbert and Rashard back, with the intent to use our amnesty clause on Gil?
Amnesty clause still impacts the bottom line...
doubtful Ted sets 60-odd million on fire…

The Wiz really don't need the cap room now
They aren’t going anywhere, nobody big is going to want to sign there yet.
Lewis is just taking up a roster space. He shouldn’t be getting much-if-any PT, I can’t see him being in the long-term plans. I can’t see anyone else wanting him. If he can be happy getting paid to be a practice player and showing the younguns how the NBA works, keep him. If he wants to play, amnesty him. He’s getting his either way.
by GoForthAndDie on Jul 9, 2011 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions
I know it impacts the bottom line, but Wiz would get Howard
Which I think would be worth it. Granted, I have absolutely no concept of what $60 million dollars is.
Washington: Hello, Orlando? It's the Wizards.
We’d like to talk about a trade for Howard, but you’re not getting John Wall.
Orlando: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

There's always Durantula and Griffin
Those are the guys we should be dreaming about and planning for. Getting Griffin from the Clippers could be like taking candy from a baby.
Durant's not going anywhere
Why would he leave, and why would they trade him?
Griffin is another story. Might have to wait til he hits the free market though.
by GoForthAndDie on Jul 6, 2011 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Nobody stays with the Clippers.haha
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Not necessarily
By the time he finishes his minimum tour of duty in LA, the Wiz could be looking pretty good. A young, athletic team with a couple years together, same age as him…It’s fairly certain Wall is the real deal. If a couple more pieces fit into place, and the Wiz are a Blake Griffin away from worrying the Eastern Conference, both sides would take notice.. They might be too “young” to be serious contenders, but they’d also not yet be hitting their primes. If Blake isn’t looking for immediate titles, and can wait a year or two, Wall/Griffin could run anyone out of the arena.
Plus, if the owners get what they want, more or less, talent would start spreading out more through the league as the so-called “big market” teams run out of money. It’s been a while since I lived in DC, and it does have its problems, but it does have advantages no other city in the NBA has.

Why would KD want to LeBron OKC? Hopefully he has much more character and loyalty.
As for Griffin, he’s in LA. If the Clippers are handled right, doubt he will want to LeBron them.
That's what I'm talking about
Blake Griffin
2012-13 is a team option (which they’ll likely pick up)
2013-14 is the qualifying offer (which will likely be picked up)
Free agent in the summer of 2014 (assuming he doesn’t sign an extension until then)
I forgot Kevin Durant is signed through 2015.
Do any of you think Orland has forgotten about Gilbert?
As much as I love him, getting the damaged goods that are Gilbert Arenas effectively shut us off from future talks with the Magic until Otis is gone. I don’t think Ernie can fool him twice.
Dont think its that simple
Otis Smith and Gil are good friends—I think Otis wanted Gil. Not sure EG had to do any fooling.
The Magic were in desperate need of another scorer because they wanted to chase it all. Vince Carter wasn’t it, Rashard wasn’t it, so Otis took a big gamble on his old buddy/previous elite scorer.
And as much as it hurts me to say, Gil is too washed up for what the Magic wanted.
Orlando knew exactly what they were getting
Otis was looking through rose-colored glasses when he made that deal. That’s on him.
