Blatche v. Beasley

There has been a lot of talk about trading with Minnesota for the #2, but I quite personally would be interested in a scenario where we end up with Wesley Johnson or Michael Beasely in exchange for Blatche.

My argument: Blatche is a knuckle head and continues to makes mistakes even as he begings to put things together on the floor consistently. Beasley, while he has had issues, he suffered from self-medicating a bi-polar disorder with marijuana and has since sought treatment and appears to be doing better. He would be a nice change of pace (different skill set) from Kevin Love off the bench for Minnesota; whereas, He could start at SF for the Wiz  IF we pulled off the Kantner deal. Weslesy Johnson would be a plus as well, but I don't see a Blatche for Johnson swap happening as easily executed without including a pick. All of their starts are similar, with the exception of 3pt FG (Beasley and Johnson are 3pt shooters and Blatche is not). Beasley was a rebounder in college (has struggled to be as dominant in the NBA).

There is a lot here that is contingent on how the draft shakes out, but I think my biggest wish is for Blatche to be on a different team next year. I would say coming off the bench, but he appears to have the maturity of a 5yr. old so I think that would do more harm than good.

Please feel free to argue. Just wanted to get some other conversation going on besides the draft anxiety and day dreaming.

Johnson

Would be a good fit in Washington. I would trade Blatche for him in a heartbeat. I don’t think Minnesota would do that without at least a very high draft pick.

I have no good signature ideas.

7 day dray

This reminds me of c webb. when we trade dray, watch him blow.

This is what i'm worried about.

I’m not comfortable trading blatche until the deadline this year. He had one season where he had the full reigns at the PF position, still managed to put up career numbers even when he was going through injuries up the wazoo.

Give it half a year, 100% healthy, with a 100% john wall. If he can’t get it done then, ship him.

Beasley and 2 for Blatche and 6 is a hard deal to pass up though. The small forward position is still a concern, and beasley, as much as a head-case he may turn out to be, is an established young and growing prospect that can play the 3.

Geting it done.

beasley is

i agree that he is a young and growing prospect. but he is oden to rose durant. simple. to make matters worst, can he play with wall is the question? i think not. i loved the kid in college but he is a poor mans paul pierce at 3 (less jumper, more athletic)

Please stop the get Beasley talk!

You can say he is “self-medicating a bi-polar disorder with marijuana”, I say he left Miami where anyone can get in trouble and moved to Minnesota.

If Beasley moves back home to MD, where all his old friends are, can you really expect him to stay out of trouble?!?! I don’t think one season without any troubles with the law merits that.

So...

You’re asking me if I want a bi-polar MIchael Beasley?

No thank you.

Blatche probably has DSV-IV diagnosis as well

so….gunshot, picking up a stripper, fight with teammate is better than someone who recognizes they have a problem and personally check in some place and get help. Really?

by Copious 1 on Jun 6, 2011 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions

We all could be diagnosed with something.

I wouldn’t go get Blatche either, but of the two Blatche has the size advantage. He can defend his position, when the mood strikes. MB can’t because he has no defensive position. Beasley’s low bball IQ is an even bigger concern. Another guy who knows how to get his. Thanks-no thanks. We’re full of those.

I think it depends on what you want

Beasley is cheaper and only has one more year left

Blatche is overpaid, but not terribly. If you like him coming off the bench then you might see a long term fit with him.

I dont see Minn trading for AB under any circumstance. And I dont see any reason in taking Beasley off their hands unless we get the #2 pick for the trouble. I am not sure Minn is that concerned.

I think swapping #2 and #6 and beasley is a possibility. That is $6.5mm off their salary cap, so it equates to more than the dollar value. And it frees up playing time for Williams. They can then grab Burks, a SG they really need and probably better than any SG prospect they can trade Beasley for.

Yeah, I like Beasly...

I don’t want to see Blatche go, but if it were for Beasly, I could live with it. We’d be getting talent for talent. I think Blatche still looks good in a Wiz uni, though….

Johnson seems like a nice role player

That said, I can’t imagine him starting for a contender. Due to his age and production, I think he’ll be at best an 8th man for a decent team. He’s basically yet another Timberwolves lottery pick (Brewer, Foye, Flynn) who’s best case scenario is “solid bench player”. I’ll pass.

I guess I’d take Blatche over Beasley, too. They’re similarly productive, with the main difference being that Dray’s three inches taller and can slide to the 5 if necessary.

I'm down with Johnson but...

Beasley is a no no for many of the reasons described here already. I do agree Blatche’s time in DC is outnumbered butI don’t want to bring in another guy with a lot of personal baggage. Also I doubt Minnesota is interested in Blatche. The Wolves would probably want McGee and I still want to see JaVale in a Wiz uni next year. But if the wolves put up Wes Johnson and the num 2 pick, this may be really tempting.

Hell no

Were not trading our inefficient skilled 6’11 nut case for a 6’9 less skilled, high usage nut case. The TWolves are reportedly looking to trade him to cleanse their culture for crying out loud. As for Johnson, I liked him a lot coming out of college but he dissapointed last yr and at 24 he’s a very average wing with limited upside. He’ll be better but not special.

So, no, we shouldn’t trade big for small(er) and equally inefficient.

Well a headcase in one city may not be so in another environment.

When you think about it, Blatche has been a bargain based on his draft selection and his subsequent performance. But is it too early to call Beasley a bust yet?

"self-medicating a bi-polar disorder with marijuana"

Not a sentence I want anywhere near a prospective Wizard.

I really like Beasley

And absolutely LOVED him coming out of college. I believe in the right situation, he can be effective in a winning effort. That said, he is kind of a knucklehead too and I’d rather a player with Dray’s skillset (not too many players can do what he does when he’s working).

Also, the Wiz had an opportunity to get Beasley when Miami was in trade talks with teams and I think it was discussed. Didn’t happen for whatever reason.
