Austin Daye
On a number of NBA draft and general websites, people seem to think that the Wizards are very high on Jan Vesely. Vesely seems like a good prospect, plays hard, exciting, can run with Wall, etc. Whether he can become a star or not, who knows, so why not trade for a similar player with NBA experience like Austin Daye.
Daye is a big-time prospect. He is the same height as Vesely. He is long, athletic, and can get to the rim easier than most. He could end being a solid wing player and running mate with Wall. He has been stuck playing in Detroit with a very dysfunctional group. He has had uneven minutes and no point guard during his time in the NBA.
I think the Pistons would trade Daye for the 6th pick. Detroit has new ownership. Joe Dumars can impress his new boss by having two lottery picks in the upcoming draft.
On a scale of 1-10(Kevin Durant), Daye could be a solid 8.5. All Daye needs is consistent playing time and to get stronger. His height can cover up his deficiencies on defense and Wall can cover up his deficiencies on offense. Worst case scenario, if he can't guard and/or score on SFs, he can be moved to SG. His quickness and height would be a matchup nightmare for SGs. When SGs play him on defense, he would be a half a foot taller than his defender, so he would be able to shoot uncontested with ease. As everybody knows, the 2012 draft is loaded with SF prospects, so moving Daye to SG is realistic.
I think Daye could end up being a solid second-tier superstar. He is a good candidate to help the Wizards rebuild with.

Austin Daye
As good as he is or can be, is not worth the 6th pick, regardless of how supposedly weak this draft is.

Im not on the Vesely bandwagon
I want the Wiz to avoid him but if the Wiz stay at 6 and draft him, I won’t be upset. They obviously have their reasons and its better to draft into your system rather than trade into in this situation in my opinion.

I may join the "Fire EG!" bandwagon if he drafts Vesely at 6th
unless of course he comes in and proves me dead wrong at which point i’ll happily eat crow. But watching footage I really dont think he has an nba skillset, also much of his athleticism may be overrated (can jump high, but looks weak and not quick or coordinated enough to be a SF)
what i would loathe is drafting him then immediately hearing the team talk about the “adjustment period” and how it will be a “few seasons” before we’ll really know etc etc. He’s 21yrs old and would be the 6th pick, he needs to be able to play passably upon arrival. Can’t buy yourself time with the 6th pick Ern! Gotta make it count
I think Austin Daye is worth a sixth pick, we would be lucky enough to get someone that can get to where Daye is now.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
how about
austin daye + rip hamilton + 8th for our 6th, so we take on rips contract as well and then buy him out and this allows us to draft singleton at 8
I'm sorry, but no.
Daye is the replacement for Prince. There is no way Detroit lets him go.
I don't think both sides would do this
It just kind of goes against what both teams are trying to do.
Detroit is trying to start from scratch so it doesnt make sense that they trade a proven prospect for the #6 pick in a weak draft.
At the same time the Wizards are committed to building through the draft and probably wont trade the #6 pick for a former 15th pick.
Daye over Vesely, but still...
I just can’t see Daye as a player capable of being an elite player in his position. Could be a solid starter for the Wizards, but not someone we can use as a building block for our growing team. His offense is there, but his defense seems suspect.
I like Daye a lot but
As others have said before, I doubt that Detroit is willing to part with him. If Kanter’s not available at 6, then yes, Daye is better than Vesely or whoever else.
He seems more like a stretch 4 than a big shooting guard
He really doesn’t have great lateral quickness and he seems to have trouble getting to the rim against 3s, never mind 2s. He seemed to regress a bit last year, too, which is troubling, although playing in Detroit probably didn’t help.

Ha, are you talking about Vesely or Daye?

exactly what's needed....
another skilled big who’s soft, can’t defend, thinks he’s a guard, and needs to get stronger.
I know, but...
he’s still soft, still can’t defend, still thinks he’s a guard and still needs to get stronger (he’d be weak for any position).
he can shoot and is tall. 6’11 and only 200 lbs. would have a hard time finding a top flight SG that’s 200 lbs.
with that said, he can play the role of spot up shooter who doesn’t provide much else, but harder to have that type of player the worse your team is. especially if there are other poor defenders in the line up.
One more time, in case he didn't get it
Daye is a 3!!!!!! lol
