Trade Idea
Hey everybody,
I know this past month has been really rough for us fans. There have been some bright spots with some of our young guys ( John Wall, Nick Young, Trevor Booker, Kevin Seraphin at times, and Jordan Crawford at times) but for the most part we have been frustrated as hell. A hot topic as of late is the play of JaVale McGee. I won't go into his positives and negatives because the subject has been exhausted here the past couple weeks. For me, I think he will improve and eventually turn out to be an OKAY center AT BEST. I hate to say it but I don't think he has much of a future on this team. However, I do think McGee could be better off on another team. One team that I think could use him is the Minnesota Timberwolves. They have one of the best PF's in the game in Kevin Love and Michael Beasley has done well there at the SF position. If you look at their roster they really do not have a Center. They have a bunch of forwards in Anthony Randolph, Love, and Darko Milicic. The only real center on the roster is Nikola Pekovic and he is pretty bad. The player on their roster that I want is Wesley Johnson. He is a guy I loved coming out of Syracuse last year and I actually wanted us to draft him until the ping pong balls landed us the #1 pick. He was drafted at #4, is a natural SF who is ultra long and athletic and has a smooth stroke from the outside. He is a GREAT locker room guy who is all about team and always played so hard at 'Cuse. I have not seen him much this year on the Wolves but I do know it has been tough for him with the emergence of Beasley at the 3 spot. He plays about 26 minutes a game and averages 9 pts, 3 rebs, and 2 asts per game. His percentages have not been great at 41% from the field and 36% from 3 point land but that isn't terrible either, especially for a rookie who only plays half the game and is on a terrible team. My proposal for a trade is:
JaVale McGee + Jordan Crawford for Wesley Johnson.
The salaries work and if Minny would not accept that offer I would not be afraid to throw in our 1st rd pick from Atlanta to get him. He could potentially solve our SF problem and fits the youth plan. This would allow us to focus on drafting a front court player like Sullinger or Kanter with our top 5 pick. I would not be too worried about losing that Atlanta pick either because come draft time I guarantee you we can get another top 20 pick using the BOYD strategy where I believe you could draft someone that could easily replace Crawford. I think the deal works for both teams. The Wiz get a 2nd year player who was drafted top 5 in Wesley Johnson to possibly fill our SF position long term and the Wolves get a guy in McGee who could be a potential starter with Love while their 3 position is occupied with Beasley.
What do you guys think?

Sorry I meant to include this in the post. Starting 5 for next season:
1. John Wall
2. Nick Young
3. Wesley Johnson
4. Andray Blatche / Rashard Lewis
5. Enes Kanter
Bench:
Booker
Seraphin
Mo Evans?
top 20 pick from BOYD (guard)
Obviously we would sign a veteran or two as well.
I know people want Blatche gone too but he was starting to show something again before he just got hurt. I am willing to give him a full offseason where he doesn’t break his foot during it. Plus I don’t want to just move him this summer for nothing while his value is so low. He could come out next year and ball and maybe we could trade him at the deadline and get some real value for him. Or maybe even keep him.
What do I think ?
Great article . Intelligently written ; but , NOOOOOO ! Be patient this summer has a lot of surprises. Personally , I would first stroke N. Young with my right hand and with my left keep an eye out for Thornton in Sactown via text.Second I would draft a PF / C with my top pick an put them next to a scoring FA with baggage to give me a quality 20-30 minutes ( examples : Oden , Hawes , +/- Murphy , etc). A simple tweak like that would add at least 15 games next year. By mixing that with last year’s picks; the Wizards are not that far away. In fact, even though I live in Michigan; I would buy suite tickets for that party w/out pause !
Sounds good
I wouldn’t trade our pick though…well maybe if we can get their 2nd rounder and even take webster (probably dosent work, salary wise) but yeah I kind of like it. Johnson is going to be sick, just needs a great point guard to run with him.
I wouldn't trade the pick from ATL...maybe a 2nd rounder.
But I think the trade is pretty good.
If there’s a Kahn there’s a way.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Yeah I would like to keep our ATL pick as well
But if Kahn says the pick must be included I don’t think it would be the end of the world if we sent it to him. Maybe ask for their 2nd rounder in exchange. I just feel like we will be able to get a top 20 pick pretty easily with teams trying to cut salary.
You don't want last years (prove) 4th pick because you want to keep this yrs 22th?!
If anything athletic 7’1 shot blockers who runs the floor extremely well don’t grow on tree’s here on earth, whereas versatile athletic wings that can score and defend are more common.
kinda like this trade idea though…not sure. Damn it Javale, why didn’t you have the break-out yr i hoped you would have! Now you have us wondering if you will ever pan out. Ever.

what the hell
roll the dice and see what happens. For all the recent drama, there is still a good chance Jevale “wakes up” and tops out at a Tyson Chandler level of play. But if Wesley Johnson becomes a solid SF giving us 15 & 5 and solid D for the next 7/8 years, let’s do it.
Maybe I would include Seraphin in the package with McGee instead
There is going to be a logjam at the 4 anyway with Blatche, Lewish, Booker, and possibly a lottery pick
Not a fan
Wes is nothing special – there are guys like him in every draft and always available cheaply in free agency.

If we are going to trade between the beginning of the offseason and the draft then I want it to be for a top 10 pick.
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Pass
I wouldn’t trade JaVale McGee for Wes Johnson straight up. This is aiming way too low for JaVale and at the wrong target. Centers with JaVales athleticism and build don’t grow on trees, even if he is soft. IMO, the teams the Wiz should aim at with JaVale are the teams that really need a big man (Philly, Cleveland, Charlotte, and Miami) or have a good PF playing C like Portland (Aldridge) Atlanta (Horford), Utah (Jefferson), NYK (Amare), San Antonio (Duncan), Detroit (Monroe), Sacremento (Cousins). Maybe targeting a guy like DeJuan Blair or Wes Matthews.
Utah is veerrryyyy interesting.
They have a stable of PF’s. Javale may complement with them well, and just get in the game at times. And they have things to offer too…
Screw rational basketball analysis. I <3 Jordan Crawford.

Utah
The whole point for Utah is to let Jefferson play his natural position of PF and match Jefferson at PF and McGee at C.
Paul Millsap, Gordon Hayward, CJ Miles, Kyrylo Fesenko or maybe 1 of Utah’s draft pick(s) are about all I can imagine Utah being willing to possibly send. Those are the the guys that are just “extra”

I can not see them trading Millsap
and probably not Favors. Who are both natural PF’s, along with Jefferson. Something has got to give, and I see it being Jefferson.

I'd prefer Harrison Barnes
To making a package deal for Wes Johnson.
IMO, Harrison Barnes worst case scenario is Wes Johnson
We may have to move him in order to get back into the top 10 after our initial draft choice
Especially if we take someone like Barnes with our first pick. Would not be a bad idea to offer up McGee to get back in the top 10 and pick a big man who knows how to play the center position.
I like Wesley Johnson alot, but
Harrison Barnes 6-8 210 19 years old, so I think Barnes will be better and I know he’s younger. so if we draft Barnes we keep him, but I do agree McGee and Blatche are at their Peaks so trade them (PF,C), but for what? I want another top 10 pick, but I also want OJ Mayo because of is scoring and defense he could start for young or come off the bench as well.
JaVale is and will be an above average center
don’t trade him. The arguments for and against JaVale have been exhausted, and it all comes down to this: Does his poor defense outweigh the positives of his efficient scoring and rebounding? I think the answer is clearly no. Even if his fundamentals are bad, his ludicrous shot-blocking ability (12 blocks!?) makes him at least an average defensive presence.
But to be honest, his athleticism and shot blocking ability are really all he has ever shown promise with
I believe this is how we can market him to other teams who may be willing to take a chance on him. It could just be the Wizard’s staff, who knows, but haven’t seen much improvement with McGee since we drafted him. The only difference is that he is getting more minutes.I think he can be traded to another (bad) team with no inside presence (Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit), maybe some cash (possibly), for their high draft pick.
