We'd need to bring another team in

If we could get an expirer and a middle first rounder, I’d be happy. I think Hinrich will have more value next year when he’s an expiring contract and still a quality player who can fill in at either backcourt position. He’d be pretty useful for a team like LA or Boston, maybe Orlando if they suffer an injury and want to trim salary.

Second

Kirk’s a class act, and deserves better than the Wiz, but I’d rather keep Kirk around until next year as well. Unless there’s a blow-me-down offer, I’m hoping for patience. I’m pretty certain a better deal for him will come around this time next year.

That’s a fantastic point.

We can’t lose a role model player, especially a role model PG. If there’s anyone we want Wall/McGee modeling themselves after, it’s Hinrich (other than McGee thinking he should play PG). It would be contradicting ourselves to get rid of gilbert for addition by subtraction, and then retain blatche while getting rid of one of the few pluses on the team.

I have a theory.

The Wizards are so bad this year that other Gm’s don’t watch us play games. I mean, Kirk is awful, there is no reason anyone would want this scrub…..but anyways, maybe other Gm’s haven’t got to watch Blatche play this year. If the theory is true, we could trade Blatche and Hinrich (2 terrible basketball players) for Bynum and maybe Ebanks as a throw in. If i’m wrong maybe we can just give them Kirk and Blatche for free (addition by subtraction).

I object on behalf of both

Dray is “terrible” in the sense he has immense talent and no one has taught him to unleash in a way that makes the team better. Meanwhile, he’s not the type of talent you can run a jump shooting offense through if you want him to perform well.

Kirk is “terrible” in the sense that he gets the most of his abilities through effort and trying to play within the team scheme. He’s best at PG, and he’s 6’4" if you round up. In spite of that, he’s spent a majority of minutes playing out of position for the past 3+ years. He’s also a complimentary player – he’ll look much better playing on a good, disciplined team, and he’ll look much worse playing on a bad, undisciplined team. Yet here he is, playing big minutes out of position on bad, undisciplined team – also not the right setting for him to perform well.

Neither is a terrible basketball player in an objective sense. Both are in a position right now where they look worse than they are.

I disagree

Both are pretty awful. Maybe Dray had talent 50 pounds and 4 million jump shots ago. Now, hes fat and useless. He has been in the NBA for 6 years now…someone has tried to teach him to use his “talent”. He plain sucks. And I don’t post much on here, but I read a lot. Every single thing you say is supportive of Kirk. And since you are a J Hawk and Bulls fan I assume you starting posting on here just to talk about Kirk….. But honestly, watching Kirk now, even running point, do you think he isn’t awful? He dribbles the ball around in a circle for 19 seconds and jacks a contest jumper. Last night Nick Shot a jumpshot and I saw Kirk throw his hands up in frustration. The jumper went in and the next possession Nick shot free throws. Everyone on the court went to give him a high five at the line except Kirk. Me and my friend were watching the game and both noticed it. So not only is Kirk awful at basketball, but he’s a selfish jack ass. Nick is the only player on our team that is worth a damn and Kirk gets mad when he scores in the 4th quarter. And no i’m not mae.jude 2.0.

by Oldbuckwilder on Feb 2, 2011 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

It's not a secret around here that I started following the Wizards when they traded for Kirk.

I’m sure I do tend to rate him more highly than deserved at times, just puts me on the opposite end of the spectrum from people who see everything he does as a negative. I’m going to go ahead and assume you fit there.

No, I don’t think he’s awful running point. He did have a really crappy game last night, regardless of what ended up in the box score. I still don’t think he’s anywhere close to terrible. I do think this team plays to most of his weaknesses and very few of his strengths. I’ve heard one thing in 10+ years to suggest he’s not a good teammate, and that was from someone who’s friend knows someone who knows someone who said… I think Kirk gets frustrated when the team doesn’t do what Flip wants it to, because he’s the kind of player that sticks to the game plan. Many have suggested that’s a flaw, given a coach or two here and there. If he was upset at Nick taking a shot, I’d guess it has more to do with the shot and less to do with whether it went in or not. Although I love how people always assume they know what a player is thinking based on body language or a short quote.

Dray, I think, could be fine. I’m not happy with how he’s playing now, but I don’t think he’s terrible either. He’s an inefficient jump shooter, so running an offense that calls for him to shoot a lot of jumpers is not going to be to his or the team’s advantage. I’d like to see him play fewer minutes, and I’d like Flip to hold him more accountable – but then I’m not exactly positive Flip is telling him to do something differently.

And Nick’s not the only guy worth a damn – but he is have a great season, and I couldn’t be happier for him. I hope he stays here, but regardless of the future I’m glad for him he’s doing his best to up his value.

See I hate arguing with people like you...

Because you respond politely and make sense. I prefer to argue with people like me that assault someone’s character and just make provocative statements. I still think both suck but I respect your opinion. No more arguing needs to be done.

We can agree to disagree...but

It may be for different reasons – but I think we both agree it would be nice to have Kirk on a different team. ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing

but then again, Bynum’s always hurt and isn’t he the only young guy with upside they really have post-Kobe?

Funny post on Cnnsi.

Sad … but true

“They’ve got to give somebody good to get somebody good unless Lord Stern is planning something to satisfy the Lakers again. Watch the Lakers trade Ebanks, Blake, Walton, and McKie for Heinrich and Jevale McGee. We all know that this can happen easily…. "

by Unselds on Feb 2, 2011 2:44 PM EST reply actions

Don’t you make this deal if you are the wizards if you can get a first round pick in return? For example:

Hinrich + Cash for Blake, Walton (to even out salaries), 1st Rounder

We’re not getting a better pick for Hinrich than a late first.

FYI, you need to click on the “Save Trade” link to get a unique, reference-able URL for your trade. The link you give just goes to the general Trade Machine site.

Probably not going to happen

Unless the Lakers know something about Bynum’s knees that they’re not telling anyone.

I would go for a trade for Bynum

Hinrich + Blatche for Bynum + scrub for roster matching

(Scrub = Devin Ebanks, Derrick Character or Theo Ratliff all work)….

Bynum is still young enough at 23 to fit in with the Wizards building plan -

Hinrich gives the Lakers a solid perimeter defender that can play either the 1 or 2…
They already have Fisher and Blake, but neither one plays a lick of defense…. and neither is shooting the ball particularly well…

Blatche gives them a Center to replace Bynum – and perhaps Andray’s lack of a strong inside game can be hidden better playing with guys like Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest.

The deal also works by substituting Yi Jinlian for Blatche – but I don’t think there’s enough with a Hinrich-Yi trade to entice them to give up Bynum….

He's "delightfully cranky"

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

So if we go for Bynum then who will be our franchise center?

McGee or Bynum??

TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol

by Krobify on Feb 3, 2011 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

Bynum ...

… for the 40 games he’s healthy. Bynum’s a legit all-star when he’s healthy. JaVale McGee is a package of Funions with raw athletic ability.

by ryasch on Feb 3, 2011 6:22 PM EST reply actions

Be smart

and grab some draft picks, and a quality player(s)

by Big Spoon on Feb 5, 2011 7:35 AM EST reply actions

Am I the only one that believes

Bynum is the most untouchable guy on that team. They are OLD. Bynum is the only true young prospect they got. To give that up for Hinrich + anything, is crazy.

CNNSI posted the rumor again!

They either REALLY think its true, or they forgot they posted it last week :)

by Unselds on Feb 7, 2011 11:03 AM EST reply actions

I feel like Otis Smith is kicking himself that he traded for and Gil instead of Kirk

Kirk just seems to have the kind of game to help out a contender… defend, knock down shots, passes and takes care of the ball
