NBA Free Agency Day 1 Open Thread
Busy, busy day today on the NBA free agency front, though not for the Wizards. Here's everything that's happened today:
- On the Wizards' front, Josh Howard is considering the Spurs, Jazz, Bulls, Nets, Nuggets and Wizards, reports Chris Broussard. Mo Evans is considering 3-4 teams, including the Wizards, he tells Zach Lowe.
- The latest chapter of the ongoing ballad of CP3-BO involves the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets talking about a three-team deal that sends Paul to the Lakers, Pau Gasol to Houston and Luis Scola and Kevin Martin to New Orleans. Please don't do that, Hornets. That's awful.
- Meanwhile, the Celtics keep moving on up in the CP3-BO sweepstakes, offering a package centered around Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green.
- Tyson Chandler pondered an offer from the Golden State Warriors, then said, "LOL, nope," and is now expected to sign with the Knicks for four years and $58 million.
- To make that happen, the Knicks will have to remove Chauncey Billups from their roster in some way, likely through the amnesty clause. Billups ain't too happy 'bout that, but I imagine he'll be happier if Miami can get him.
- The Knicks are probably out of the CP3-BO sweepstakes if they do sign Chandler, unless the Hornets want Amar'e Stoudemire for him.
- Good old buddy Caron Butler got a pretty nice three-year, $24 million dollar deal to play for the Los Angeles Clippers.
- The honor for the worst contract of the winter so far belongs to the Detroit Pistons, who gave Tayshaun Prince a four-year, $27 million deal. They also gave Jonas Jerebko, a guy who plays the same position as Prince and is younger, a four-year, $16 million deal. The Pistons, folks.
- Shane Battier quoted Jimmy Buffet and announced he was signing with the Miami Heat.
- Eddy Curry also is taking his talents to South Beach. Wonder if his one-hour special will be on the Food Network.
- Shannon Brown gets a one-year, $3.5 million deal to go to the Phoenix Suns and replace the stranded Aaron Brooks.
- Mike Dunleavy gets a pretty decent two-year, $7.5 million deal to play for Milwaukee.
- The Cavaliers may or may not amnesty Baron Davis.

Reports are saying Nene might go back to DEN for the MAX!
Seriously, what was the point of this lockout?

I wish I couldn't believe it
But, unfortunately, I believe it.
From the District of Columbia, home of the hyperbolic paraboloid transitional floating zone defense.
Wow. I thought Caron had more class than to work for a scumbag like Donald Sterling.
It’s been only two years since Donald Sterling to pay $2.725 million to settle housing discrimination lawsuit.
Almost forgot about that one
Thank you.

Tyson Chandler to the Knicks???
Is one defensive player supposed to make up for a team, coach, and system that doesn’t do defense? I feel like it is trying to fix a sinking ship with bubble gum.
The Pistons made a bad move resigning Prince
He’s a solid player, but a terrible fit for this young team, both in terms of playing style and development. What direction are the Pistons trying to go in?

The same when they signed Charlie V and Ben G
They’re becoming a comedy troupe

Pistons...
What has happened to Joe Dumars over the last five years? He’s turned into a dog of a GM. And Caron fleeced Sterling, proving that The Donald’s not only a joke, but really, really stupid, too.
Re: Eddy Curry/Food Network: Fantastico!
Keep spending, peoples! Keep spending!
And Battier goes from a good guy to evil-incarnate in one day.

Thinking the same thing.
Is it just me or are the Miami colors perfect for them?
Skins, Bullets/Wizards, Nats, Caps.
All Washington Everything.
Lakers going after both CP3 and D12
It was reported last week and everybody from Ryan Rusillo to Bill Simmons said “no way!”
Now, with Pau turning into CP3, the Lakers still have a combination of Bynum, Odom, Steve Blake, Devin Ebanks, Darius Miller and MWP to trade for Howard. I can definitively see it happening

LA does have one advantage though
In that they know Dwight will resign there. For example, we could put together a better package for Orlando, but I doubt it will happen because unfortunately Dwight probably wouldn’t stay.
And for some reason, I feel that a lot of teams are high on Bynum.
Bynum
Yeah, I don’t get the Bynum love. It seems like he’s being really over-valued. Of course, there’s been no actual indication that Orlando thinks highly of him.
Good centers are always overvalued.
More than half the teams in the league don’t have one…
I think when healthy he could be a top 5 center
Not playoff healthy as in if you can walk you are the center, but actually >90%.
All this...
and it’s not even Friday yet.
Skins, Bullets/Wizards, Nats, Caps.
All Washington Everything.
good luck Caron
but I think the Clippers are overpaying. I thought Caron had already started his decline when we traded him and now its 2 years later. Strange how ex Wizards that I wouldn’t want back, ie Caron and Mike Miller, are still highly regarded amongst the pundits.
Hoops gonna be interesting in LA...
Been watching Real Madrid completely dismantle Maccabee… Nikola Mirotic is a stud, people!
Congrats to Caron
I liked his potential impact more on the Bulls than the Clippers. He has played the 2 often
I'm not going to think of something extra witty or clever to say, I don't want to convince you to see things my way, I just have 2 words for you: JEREMY LAMB
Are There Amnesty Trade Restrictions?
The Knicks have to move Chauncey to bring aboard Chandler, most likely having to amnesty Chauncey to do so. In my mind Billups and his one year deal would be a perfect player for the Wizards to consider spending some of their cap space on. As a short term “tutor” for Walls and Crawford, an accountability checker for the rest, and a chip to trade at the deadline, I think he’d be worth making a bid for, however i’m not positive if a player obtained via the amnesty biding can be traded within the same season? I think they can, just not to their original team? I appreciate the feed back.
Someone asked Larry Coon that same question On twitter and he said
That if the amnesty waivers are functioning in the same way normal waivers do, you can.
I dont like the Idea of a disgruntled Billups though. He’s pretty pissed right now and his agent is saying teams better not bid for him if Billups doest like the team. “Buyer beware”

Thanks
I also heard he was going to a contender, links to Mavs. It’s good to know these in’s and out’s of the new structure. Opportunities will present themselves in interesting ways this off season. The madness was delayed, but as of today…GAME ON!
I feel like we should go after Josh Smith.
He will allow us to make a major step in building our team as we will gain another great shot blocker next to JaVale. He does make bonehead plays but he still gives 100% when he is out there, which is pretty questionable for some of our big men I must say. His improvement on his jumpshot could help as well in the pick and pop game .
TNT should've treated Lebron's return to Cleveland game like 2k11 and cut the game off after the Cavs were down by 30. lol
Much as I hate to say it
That’s a major win for the Heat. Battier’s getting older, but he makes that team much better.
