A quick note before we begin: please do not post a link to an illegal stream in the comments section. It's illegal and the site could get in trouble for it. I don't care if other SB Nation sites let you do it. Here, you can't. Thanks, folks.

Nick Young, Trevor Booker and Maurice Evans will be back in time to play in this one, but Jan Vesely is doubtful with a hip injury. Hopefully, the Wizards put forth a better effort.

GO WIZARDS!

agreed. he doesn't know how to develope young players.

time to start the search for a new coach for next year.

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

Not to be rude
he doesn’t know how to develope young players.

But that is pure BS.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

how do you figure?

what of our young guys are significantly better than 2 years ago?

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

Nick is

JaVale is
Even Blatche had that great stretch of games after the Antwan Caron Deshawn Haywood trades.

athleticism and physical ability

doesn’t make you an automatic starter. Neither does experience, for that matter.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

and to be honest

The vast majority of professional basketball players are essentially who they are when they first arrive in the league. Only the youngest players with most upside, and high BBIQs will improve dramatically

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

Those teams already have a sound team culture,

and experienced vets who have won championships to guide the younger players. The longest-tenured player on the wizards is blatche. We don’t have a KG, a Paul Pierce, a Kobe, or a Tim Duncan on this roster. Flip doesn’t have any real leaders to work with.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:51 PM EST up reply actions

We have vets

We had Rashard and Mo Evans and guys like that. That’s not the same as having Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Us resigning Mo Evans

Is like the skins gettin Jabar Gaffney, it does nothing and means nothing

by MurlandTerps on Dec 20, 2011 10:04 PM EST up reply actions

the fact he developed KG should give that man a pass for awhile

cause he is trying to teach kids with extremely lower basketball IQs

what has he done since?

The players basically kicked him out of detroit… and he’s done virtually nothing since arriving here.

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

he looks almost as lost as the players out there.

the only thing consistent about this team has been the inconsistency since he arrived.
I’m not saying that we should fire him now… but if we don’t show significant improvement this year with the same starters, then we need a replacement for next year.

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

Fire him if there's no true progress and chemistry.

but i don’t mind if he was gone right now from last friday…

Another 23 win season?

I have no idea what to expect from the team this yr

Its a 66 game season. I say the over/under is 15 wins

Well, definitely better game

Saw some stuff I liked, saw some stuff I don’t like.

Wall’s play is getting a little alarming at this point though.

game recap

Both sg’s looked bad Crawford and Nick Young especially Crawford
defense was better
mcgee played well
Blatche shot poor but passe well with 5 dimes
Singleton and Booker hustled on defense
Wall had his moments both good and bad
found out Lewis has retired but hasn’t submitted paperwork
Mack played well
Flip coached poorly

First time posting

Long time reader, first time post:

Any chance we’re overreacting to these last two games? I mean it’s preseason after a lockout shortened off season with a super young team.

Also, just wondering if anyone knows whether Flip’s running vanilla plays like they do in preseason football?

Granted they made some mistakes, but I saw a lot more effort than the first game. Maybe we should wait to call for Flip’s job/Blatche trade/etc… until mid season or so.

Go Wiz

by jaffejoe on Dec 20, 2011 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

For the most part, I’d like to see more improvement just from a game execution standpoint. More patience, better execution, sounder defense and fundamentals. I know this is an athletic roster and we like to run, but for the team to really improve they need to start executing in the half court.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 9:49 PM EST up reply actions

i honestly thought the random pickup games played during the offseason would hurt players like wall. Seems that in the last two games he’s still getting used to playing within the confines of this offense and playing against above avg. defense.

It’s pretty frustrating that Blatche won’t go inside though, i’m so sick of that fade

by jaffejoe on Dec 20, 2011 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

blatche thinks he's Michael Jordan

or is that Crawford?… or both… Hmmmm. maybe our players just all have a jordan complex.

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

Positive spin...

We got blown out in the first game at home
We were significantly better on the road and it was competitive until the last 90 seconds
Next game we get even better?

Likely? No but it could happen.

by Kuruption on Dec 20, 2011 9:53 PM EST reply actions

the problem is the #1 overall

is not playing like a #1 overall. he suppose to be the solution but at least so far he’s part of the problem.

by stevie on Dec 20, 2011 9:54 PM EST reply actions

Disagree

we know what Blatche is and I don’t know why Crawford is even discussed on this board. He couldn’t get off Atlanta’s bench for a reason. He’s not important.

But Wall, I’m not seeing it right now. Starting to look like not a franchise pick.

by edubz on Dec 20, 2011 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

I'm more worried about Blatche

I don’t think he’ll ever get it. The talent is there. He would be a monster if he had desire, but I don’t ever think he’ll flick the switch, at least not in DC at least. I would look to trade him by the deadline.

I'm not worried about Wall. I'm worried about our "stand around and look" offense.

Flip’s offense seems to invite way too many contested jumpers and/or quick shots. If we’re not as talented offensively as other teams, shouldn’t we have more movement on offense with lots of screens and cuts? What gives?

by Bassanova on Dec 20, 2011 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Wall biggest weakness are his handles

then his jumpshot.

His speed...

He does have a lot of room for improvement though. Worries me but also you can look at it like he has the potential to improve in these areas which would make him a special player… time will tell.

by koop1122 on Dec 20, 2011 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

Wow - I didn't see the whole game...

But Crawford got 18 points – he must have had a good game….

I mean , 18 points…. that’s impressive….

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Dec 20, 2011 9:59 PM EST reply actions

He added 6 rebounds and an assist....

Those 6 rebounds were what did it for me…. I mean – he’s really more than just a scorer….

He can get 18 points and still grab 6 rebounds… That’s a multiple tool player right there!!!!

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Dec 20, 2011 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

He's not just a one dimensional player

18 and 6 – boy oh boy

by Rook6980 on Dec 20, 2011 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

I can maybe even buy into his statement

that he’s better than Michael Jordan…. Just wait until the season starts and we get to see him do the same things he did in this game , 66 more times…!!!

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Dec 20, 2011 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

Sigh

This wasn’t a great game for either SG candidate. Young and Crawford were both bad.

Young wanted 9 million. Crawford is getting a million or so. I’ll take 18-6 from a player getting paid that little.

Ernie needs to lock up Crawford to a long term deal....

What did Michael get? $27 Million a year?

Of course, we can’t give him that…… but he’s worth the maximum extension…
Pay the man – he’s proven he can score in this league…

Let the season play out

but I’m concerned with Wall’s game. I don’t know what happened but I thought he came out of the gate last year as a surprising pass first play maker. He doesn’t look any better to me.

I’m trying to keep from panicking but I’m starting to feel like he isn’t a franchise pick. Will Irving be better? God I hope not. Then with this year’s pick we get a Euro tweener who can’t shoot. Not a happy guy right now.

Probably just the pre-season

but I agree Wall has to show us a bit more. Where has Lockout-Wall been???

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 20, 2011 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

ahhh.... Who needs Young...

Let’s play Crawford more minutes – he had 18 points tonight….

I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.

by Rook6980 on Dec 20, 2011 10:06 PM EST up reply actions

WTF, Rook

Nick Young was 3-10 tonight. Neither Young or Crawford made a good case. I’m not sure why you’re trashing Crawford. Guy wasn’t shooting well, but he was playing hard. Selfish, but hard.

It’s not like Young was a paragon of passing.

by GJennings on Dec 20, 2011 10:10 PM EST up reply actions

Anything but trashing Crawford....

Praising his scoring ability….

Didn’t you watch the game – He scored 18 points…

Crawford is clueless

and so unimportant to the future of this team…

I know I'm being a bit rash

but there is something about Walls game that bothers me that I can’t quite put my finger on.

by edubz on Dec 20, 2011 10:06 PM EST up reply actions

he got used to playing with Wade and Lebron and other all-stars over the summer.

so now that he’s stuck with these guys he doesn’t know what to do anymore. LOL

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

It's a lack of trust

You can tell that he’s not sure other people can make the shot.

by GJennings on Dec 20, 2011 10:11 PM EST up reply actions

agreed. and it makes sense when you look at what the guys do with the ball when he passes it to them

maybe he’s tired of watching crawford fire off horrible 3s and Blatche fading away from 18 feet out.

by tonedru on Dec 20, 2011 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

This is news to me

His handles look the exact same as last year, and they’re very poor. His handle is too loose and high, and needs to keep it tighter to his waist. He can’t even keep his dribble for a long time.
