PREGAME READING: Meet the 76ers | Liberty Ballers preview |

Have at it, folks. Basketball!

Couple pregame updates:

  • Trevor Booker "probably" won't play tonight, Flip Saunders said.
  • Flip was asked about Nick Young's status, and he said that while he has confidence in Jordan Crawford, he also said, "I would think, when it's all said and done, this is where he'll be." Michael Lee reports that Nick Young wants $9 million a year, which, uh, yeah.

GO WIZARDS!

UPDATE: Gonna have to crack down on people posting illegal streams to the game to watch online. Please don't do it. If you need to find a stream that badly, go google it yourself. Thanks.

9 mil a year?

Larry Hughes Jr? Lol, he better wake up and smell the coffee, but I do commend Grunfeld for not biting on that one.

On tonight, I expect a BIG game from Wall, given the minutes he plays.

by gray16 on Dec 16, 2011 6:31 PM EST reply actions

I kinda thought someone would give Nick something close to 9 mil

I’m elated at what the market seems to be for Nick. I haven’t looked much into it but I don’t see why his market would improve much next offseason. I think we’ll get a solid deal with Nick at some point.

by Matt Lilly on Dec 16, 2011 6:48 PM EST reply actions

So if NY wants 9 mil per year, can't we give him a signing bonus and give him the amount he wants?

Something like 13-15 mil the first year with 6 mil or so each year after?

I mean, who wouldn’t like to have 15 mil right now?
LOL

by tonedru on Dec 16, 2011 6:50 PM EST reply actions

then when he's scoring 20 ppg in another year or so we would have him at a 'steal' of a price

while still being able to sign an all-star big (unless javale and/or blatche start playing at an all-star level, which I don’t see happening.)

by tonedru on Dec 16, 2011 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

i kinda hope that wall only plays 20 or so minutes tonight.

I don’t want him injured before the season, plus we need to see how Shelvin and J Crawford can do manning the point.

by tonedru on Dec 16, 2011 6:53 PM EST reply actions

9 Mil, REALLY?

Good luck with that Nick. He cannot be that off on his true value in this year’s NBA. Especially with the SG signings so far (JRich, Jamal Crawford, Rip Hamilton, etc). Wow!

He hustles every play, and he’s moving around like a crazy person on defense. Out of position at times, but he’ll only get better there. He’s playing some pretty nice help defense. Nice shot there by him, too.

Rook, I think you're a little close-minded when it comes to J Crawford

Sure, he hasn’t looked great yet tonight but no need to put him down while you dissect his every mistake. He played about half a rookie season and you think he’ll never learn how to shoot? If NY leaves us, the 2 position may be our weakest but at least look at Crawford with an open mind for the future. He could turn out to be a serviceable starting 2 guard.

really

Aside from the typical lack of rebounding and playmaking (things we know and accept about NY), what “mess” was he a part of, asides from the team’s atrocious performance as a whole? The guy shot efficiently on offense, didn’t turn the ball over, and play pretty good man D.

by Marine4Life51 on Dec 16, 2011 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

If this game doesn't prove we need to resign Nick Young, I don't know what does

The shooting was AWFUL in the first half.

John is blazing fast, but couldn’t finish at the hoop, and forced too many passes.

Crawford played too wild and his shot-selection is puzzling to say the least. And it looks like his jumper still needs a lot of improvement.

I’m not as impressed with Dray as some others are. I;m actually really disappointed. The guy looks as chubby, slow, and out of shape as ever, and couldn’t mean his man off the dribble because of it. And he’s just terrible at rotations and recognizing when to help on D, and didn’t care about rebounding I’ve been one of Dray’s biggest fans, but I can’t defend him anymore. You had one WHOLE offseason and a few more months because of the lockout to get in shape, and you’re still fat?!? SMH

McGee never passes when he gets the ball in the post. He’s made some solid moves, but still needs to play more within himself. Has used his crazy length to contests shots, but Philly can’t miss. And it seems like he’s changed his FT routine a bit and wants to look at the basket longer before he shoots. Better not get that 10-sec violation lol.

He's going too fast to run at the rim so straight, he needs to approach from an angle

If he keeps going that fast straight on, its SO hard to lay up the ball up gently like u need to, at an angle it’ll be easier to control carrying all that speed with him

You have to hope

Nick Young is pained to see his teammates lose. IF not, he’s not the type of guy who deserves 9 million.

Honestly, I don’t think one preseason game against a pretty good defense tells you very much. If Crawford has been on tonight and shot 50% from 3pt, that wouldn’t make me say “see, let’s get rid of Young.” Young is a good shooter, and we don’t have enough good shooters on this team.

Really bad shooting by pretty much everyone.

John and JaVale missed a lot of shots they usually always make. John couldn’t finish tonight even right at the rim. Dray looked good, Jan looks really good and imo we learned a lot about him tonight and what he might eventually become. Mack has been solid, and singleton looks like a great defensive player who can hit a 3.

Actually saw a lot of positive things tonight, as strange as that sounds. JaVale looked patient and played near the rim, and crashed the boards. Dray attacked the basket, john looked fast as hell, and explosive (that dunk will be on sportscenter), and our rookies looked good, some might argue Jan looked very good.

by stevie on Dec 16, 2011 9:26 PM EST reply actions

oh well my recap

everyone looked bad but there was one bright spot

Vesely didn’t like the pick all that much, didn’t like the reports I was hearing about him in camp. But seeing him in game action he’s not scared plays aggressive, his athleticism is smooth and easy, very active on the floor not just standing around feel like at the very least he will be a guy that sticks his nose on things not a bust. Not a star type either.

as for the others just bad.

Wall I think will be much better missed alot of easy ones never found a groove all game.
Mcgee-missed alot of easy shots made his free throws got boards feel like he’ll be smoother not mad at him
Blatche- not impressed did Blatche things on both ends good and bad same ole Blatche.

Lewis – alarmed how ineffective his game has been since he’s been a Wizard he looks done no enery, stands around gets beat on defense.

Crawford-forced things jacked shots not a good night at all.

Mack-active not effective but active you can see he knows the game

Singleton- good on defense needs to develop some offense a shot would help will be a hustle guy.

Flip -bad Wizards played too slowly, looked unprepared, defense was nonexistant, terrible substitutions.

One thing that alarms me is John wall’s defense its awful. he has gotta contain the dribble alot better or its gonna hamper our team defense he’s gotta use his quickness and get in front of guys. Gives up way too much penetration as does Crawford.

The Lewis, Crawford,Wall trio starting is horrid at containing penetration.

by jazzy1 on Dec 16, 2011 9:45 PM EST reply actions

I think starting Jan would improve the perimeter defense instantly.

And make it easier on the bigs down low.

Lewis doesn’t play defense…lol…..why in the world is he starting. I doubt it stays that way going into the regular season. If Jan plays like he did tonight again on Tuesday (or if he plays better), he deserves to be our starting SF. Hands down.

by DCeee on Dec 17, 2011 12:09 AM EST reply actions

Oh, and also

Jan actually set some pretty solid picks out there tonight. It’s like everything he was supposed to be horrid at he did pretty well with tonight.
