Have at it, folks. Basketball!
Couple pregame updates:
- Trevor Booker "probably" won't play tonight, Flip Saunders said.
- Flip was asked about Nick Young's status, and he said that while he has confidence in Jordan Crawford, he also said, "I would think, when it's all said and done, this is where he'll be." Michael Lee reports that Nick Young wants $9 million a year, which, uh, yeah.
GO WIZARDS!
UPDATE: Gonna have to crack down on people posting illegal streams to the game to watch online. Please don't do it. If you need to find a stream that badly, go google it yourself. Thanks.

9 mil a year?
Larry Hughes Jr? Lol, he better wake up and smell the coffee, but I do commend Grunfeld for not biting on that one.
On tonight, I expect a BIG game from Wall, given the minutes he plays.

I can understand the thought, but there are TONS of SB Nation sites that do it.
Needless to say, I’ll Google things from now on.
There are as well tons that don't
we are high profile now, so its a no-no.
The artist formerly known as ledellforlife.
I kinda thought someone would give Nick something close to 9 mil
I’m elated at what the market seems to be for Nick. I haven’t looked much into it but I don’t see why his market would improve much next offseason. I think we’ll get a solid deal with Nick at some point.
So if NY wants 9 mil per year, can't we give him a signing bonus and give him the amount he wants?
Something like 13-15 mil the first year with 6 mil or so each year after?
I mean, who wouldn’t like to have 15 mil right now?
LOL
then when he's scoring 20 ppg in another year or so we would have him at a 'steal' of a price
while still being able to sign an all-star big (unless javale and/or blatche start playing at an all-star level, which I don’t see happening.)
i kinda hope that wall only plays 20 or so minutes tonight.
I don’t want him injured before the season, plus we need to see how Shelvin and J Crawford can do manning the point.
9 Mil, REALLY?
Good luck with that Nick. He cannot be that off on his true value in this year’s NBA. Especially with the SG signings so far (JRich, Jamal Crawford, Rip Hamilton, etc). Wow!
Good to see phil and buck again :)

New uniforms/colors

Oh thank you NBA for being back!!!

I must be the only guy here that didn’t mind the blue and gold (don’t shout at me….) But this is defo an improvment.

The good old

Not making many good decisions

blatch

Nice feed from Crawford though on that Blatche basket...

Crawford apparently still thinks he's a 3-point shooter
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
That would require thinking would it not?
So I’m questionable
outside shooting is garbage, esp. from Jordan "I'm better than MJ" Crawford
this is why we need Nick back
This soon....really? i know it doesnt look pretty atm but thats way too crazy of thing to say this early
Without Nick Young
This team is sorely lacking in outside shooting. That’s something we new before this game. Jordan already had a couple wide open threes and some long 2s that Nick would have nailed.

should not have gone under the screen on Lou. Bad pick and roll D ughh
Am i the only one
who has an urge to break out my NBA 2k12 and show these kids how it’s done??
More poise by the sixers...
in the first quarter at least.
Wiz O looks ragged and unstructured.
What's wrong with John Wall?
He played the same way he did last season, I thought he supposed to be better after all the ProAm games domination
Good god what has Blatche done this offseason?
He still looks horribly out of shape and slow, and looked very fatigued when he came out of the game. The skill is there, but it looks like he isn’t interested in maxinmizing his talent.
And he’s just terrible at rotating on D.

Holiday has been outplaying Wall
in the 1st Qtr. Come on Wall!
when you shoot worse than the Sixers from outside
that’s saying something.
I like the way Jan is moving around on the defensive end...a lot....
also like that he ran back to help up mack on that play.

but he is staying active
Seraphin didn't finish that one but at least he caught it more cleanly
than last year. Hope his hands have improved.
I guess this game shows why we need Nick Young so much -__-
Horrible spacing and shooting on the floor right now.
And I’m very disappointed that Dray looks as overweight as he did last season.

Playoff team vs. Lottery team….slow and steady we go

Once again.
There is an uncomfortable dearth of outside shooting ability from our guys. I would really like to see Nick in this game.
And Philly already starting to capitalize on that
by packing the lane, and keeping the Wiz off the offensive boards – it’s one shot and done…
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
exactly
shooting spreads the floor. Once Philly realizes that we have no credible outside threat, that makes everything that much harder.

I've liked everything I've seen from Jan so far
He hustles every play, and he’s moving around like a crazy person on defense. Out of position at times, but he’ll only get better there. He’s playing some pretty nice help defense. Nice shot there by him, too.
His stroke looks really nice, just needs to get consistent and work on it.
He's just a terrible 3-point shooter.......
He should try driving occasionally
I used to have super powers until my psychiatrist took them away.
Rook, I think you're a little close-minded when it comes to J Crawford
Sure, he hasn’t looked great yet tonight but no need to put him down while you dissect his every mistake. He played about half a rookie season and you think he’ll never learn how to shoot? If NY leaves us, the 2 position may be our weakest but at least look at Crawford with an open mind for the future. He could turn out to be a serviceable starting 2 guard.

Well, lets put it this way..
Philly can’t shoot much better. Time for a good half-time chat Flip, get them buckets falling.
Yea, I feel like Jan might end up coming along faster than I initially thought.
Obviously a small serving size so far, but the dude moved around so well and stayed really, really active on D. He also went to the basket for a lob twice, and both times, Mack missed him once, while Crawford missed him on the other one. John would have found him both times had he been in imo….
I put most of the failure on John's shoulders
he shot it terribly didn’t get anyone easy baskets and he couldn’t finish at the hoop.

How about?
A Bad shooting night against a very collapsed zone.
That explains a lot of his problems. The 76ers were daring the Wizards to make outside shots. They didn’t make they stretch their DEF at all.
Slashers need lanes.
1st half breakdown
Flip kept a bad lineup on the floor along time
Mcgee missed too many easy shots
Blatche – solid offensively terrible on defense
Lewis nothing’
Wall terrible to’s missed shots forced plays
Crawford worse
Vesely good on defense husled hard made a shot
Singleton one deensive play basically invisible
Mack one good offensive play missed shots foce things
Seraphin Milk Carton
Well – of all the Wizard players, I’m most disappointed in Crawford’s first half….then..
Singleton looks exactly like I thought – defensive stopper.
Vesely looks like an energy player

Only Crawford looks exactly like he did last year – poor shot selection – terrible 3-point shooter, yet he’s jacked up 3 already

Crawford looked bad
but he still played better than Wall, who shot just as bad, turned the ball over 4 times, and didn’t get any rebounds…
First half shooting
Wall 1-7
JCraw 2-7
Rashard 1-3
DRAY 4-8, 5-5 FT
JaVale 1-5, 3-4 FT
Only other players outside of the starting five who have made baskets are Jan and Shelvin Mack.
I'm not worried honestly.
Some guys look rusty, but john will be fine during the season, dray looks great, javale is playing well (like Rook said, just that he’s crashing the boards is very good to see, and he’s playing more patiently).
We need someone who can hit a jump shot, though….lol….
exactly. Not worried
Just back to reality. We are a young team and lots to learn. Nice to play against a real team instead of teammates.
for the Sixers
they looked prepared cohesive penetrated at will , shared the ball and hit everything looked fresh. crisp defensively
I think the Wizards might have gone harder than the Sixers the last few days their legs aren;t there.
We just have no shooters right now, and it causes
major problems.
Gotta admit
Doug Collins has done a pretty solid job with the Sixers after the mess EJordan left for him to clean up.
Guess the guy is better than just being an MJ yes-man.
Raise your hand if you are surprised that Crawford has shot the ball 7 times already

really
Aside from the typical lack of rebounding and playmaking (things we know and accept about NY), what “mess” was he a part of, asides from the team’s atrocious performance as a whole? The guy shot efficiently on offense, didn’t turn the ball over, and play pretty good man D.
by Marine4Life51 on Dec 16, 2011 8:21 PM EST up reply actions
If this game doesn't prove we need to resign Nick Young, I don't know what does
The shooting was AWFUL in the first half.
John is blazing fast, but couldn’t finish at the hoop, and forced too many passes.
Crawford played too wild and his shot-selection is puzzling to say the least. And it looks like his jumper still needs a lot of improvement.
I’m not as impressed with Dray as some others are. I;m actually really disappointed. The guy looks as chubby, slow, and out of shape as ever, and couldn’t mean his man off the dribble because of it. And he’s just terrible at rotations and recognizing when to help on D, and didn’t care about rebounding I’ve been one of Dray’s biggest fans, but I can’t defend him anymore. You had one WHOLE offseason and a few more months because of the lockout to get in shape, and you’re still fat?!? SMH
McGee never passes when he gets the ball in the post. He’s made some solid moves, but still needs to play more within himself. Has used his crazy length to contests shots, but Philly can’t miss. And it seems like he’s changed his FT routine a bit and wants to look at the basket longer before he shoots. Better not get that 10-sec violation lol.

He's going too fast to run at the rim so straight, he needs to approach from an angle

Was it just me or did i see KSeraphin attempt a turnaround J a few minutes back??

funny how every shot we take is contested, and every shot they take the guy is open.
We have a LOT of work to do…. especially on D.
Check this out
Evan “I’m not a bust yet” Turner has 6 rebounds, three assists, four points on 2-4 shooting
John has four points on 1-8 shooting, 2 assists, no rebounds, four TOs.
Nice perimeter D there closing in on Mack

And I want to see some NBA ball lol. Besides, you guys have a fair amount of rookies, and I wanted to see them play.
I have to admit, Vesely looks pretty good.
I thought it was the preseason for both teams.
We look ragged. They look crisp. This offense looks just like it did last year…over-reliance on one-on-one stuff and not enough movement without the ball. Sigh.

Moving around very well on defense, hustling like crazy, had a pretty jumper and a nice take to the basket. Looked really good from what we saw.
Wall can dunk

ves jumper actually looks pretty smooth
i think he’ll be a shooter eventually
Putting together an awesome game with the limited time he's gotten.
Still want to see a lot more, but I hope he starts at some point this season. There’s no reason to have Lewis in there.
And I agree on his jumper. That thing looks beautiful. Just needs to start shooting non stop in the gym.
we should just start Ves at the 3 he can be no worse than lewis he's a stiff now
Lewis doesn’t cut just stands around and can’t get shots off against pressure Ves is always moving active and can finish solid passer.

You have to hope
Nick Young is pained to see his teammates lose. IF not, he’s not the type of guy who deserves 9 million.
Honestly, I don’t think one preseason game against a pretty good defense tells you very much. If Crawford has been on tonight and shot 50% from 3pt, that wouldn’t make me say “see, let’s get rid of Young.” Young is a good shooter, and we don’t have enough good shooters on this team.
Rook
I remember you said a LONG time ago that Jan could eventually be a very good perimeter defender, and so far tonight, he’s been really good there.
That length is crazy.

he does look a big better than last year
and lighter
Just got home a bit ago after a Christmas party.
Wow, that score is rough. First impressions:
Vesely has better feet on defense than I anticipated.
13-0 run since I’ve been watching and Singleton was guarding the point…til Meeks hit that.
Have we just been shooting like shit or overall dysfunction?

you'd really have to see it to believe it
were down by 40, then the 76ers feel asleep.
Really bad shooting by pretty much everyone.
John and JaVale missed a lot of shots they usually always make. John couldn’t finish tonight even right at the rim. Dray looked good, Jan looks really good and imo we learned a lot about him tonight and what he might eventually become. Mack has been solid, and singleton looks like a great defensive player who can hit a 3.
Actually saw a lot of positive things tonight, as strange as that sounds. JaVale looked patient and played near the rim, and crashed the boards. Dray attacked the basket, john looked fast as hell, and explosive (that dunk will be on sportscenter), and our rookies looked good, some might argue Jan looked very good.
Vesely's minutes are rising from this game
Great first impression
I feel like Flip should pull a Jamison
next game come out with the microphone and apologize to the fans
Vesely would be terrible one on one or in a workout
but he’s a good team player. Big ups to Ern for this one if he keeps this up

Positives for me
Singleton, Vesely and Mack all look good. Singleton should see the floor a lot for his defense. Everyone else has been poor… Hoping that it’s just tiredness (although with a compact season, we’re going to get tired).
Chris has got to be less of a self-check on offense

blatche looked really good
looks in shape, good shot selection. hope can keep it going.
oh well my recap
everyone looked bad but there was one bright spot
Vesely didn’t like the pick all that much, didn’t like the reports I was hearing about him in camp. But seeing him in game action he’s not scared plays aggressive, his athleticism is smooth and easy, very active on the floor not just standing around feel like at the very least he will be a guy that sticks his nose on things not a bust. Not a star type either.
as for the others just bad.
Wall I think will be much better missed alot of easy ones never found a groove all game.
Mcgee-missed alot of easy shots made his free throws got boards feel like he’ll be smoother not mad at him
Blatche- not impressed did Blatche things on both ends good and bad same ole Blatche.
Lewis – alarmed how ineffective his game has been since he’s been a Wizard he looks done no enery, stands around gets beat on defense.
Crawford-forced things jacked shots not a good night at all.
Mack-active not effective but active you can see he knows the game
Singleton- good on defense needs to develop some offense a shot would help will be a hustle guy.
Flip -bad Wizards played too slowly, looked unprepared, defense was nonexistant, terrible substitutions.
One thing that alarms me is John wall’s defense its awful. he has gotta contain the dribble alot better or its gonna hamper our team defense he’s gotta use his quickness and get in front of guys. Gives up way too much penetration as does Crawford.
The Lewis, Crawford,Wall trio starting is horrid at containing penetration.
I think starting Jan would improve the perimeter defense instantly.
And make it easier on the bigs down low.
Lewis doesn’t play defense…lol…..why in the world is he starting. I doubt it stays that way going into the regular season. If Jan plays like he did tonight again on Tuesday (or if he plays better), he deserves to be our starting SF. Hands down.
Oh, and also
Jan actually set some pretty solid picks out there tonight. It’s like everything he was supposed to be horrid at he did pretty well with tonight.
