Rudy?

No this is not another "let's trade for Rudy Gay" thread, but with the news that the Dallas Mavericks are looking to move Rudy Fernandez and/or Corey Brewer for cap space, I could help but think that Fernandez and his $2 million dollar one year contract (before he becomes a RFA) might not be a bad "Plan B" if they opt out of the Nick Young sweepstakes (if there really is such a thing).

Fernandez is young (26 years old), scrappy, and athletic, something that EG puts a priority on. Fernandez is not a NY replacement, he doesn't shoot the 3 much (or well), but what he can do is split the SG duties with Jordan Crawford, play defense and add another "hustler" to the roster as the team figures out which players are here for the long term.

The Wizards recently received a 2nd rd pick in the Turiaf deal from the Mavs, perhaps all the Wizards would need to do to obtain Rudy is to send that pick back to Dallas? I don't know how you guys feel, but I certainly could live with Rudy Fernandez for a one year trial and back up to Crawford, while the team let's NY sign a big deal elsewhere, as long as the team can get something back in a S&T.

Fernandez and a 1st rd pick (or similar from NY S&T) for $2 mil is a better option then signing NY for $5-7 mil per season for a minimum of 4 seasons.

Thoughts?
