Nets Vs. Wizards: Fake Open Game Thread For Game 1 Of Locked-Out NBA Season.

On November 2, 2011, the Washington Wizards were supposed to play the first game of their season against Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and the New Jersey Nets.  As a Wizards fan, you were supposed to be on here discussing the game in this open thread. Unfortunately, billionaires have decided to lock out millionaires, and millionaires are not willing to accept all the concessions the billionaires are asking them to accept.

So instead, this game thread is merely an open thread to discuss whatever the heck you all want.  Below the jump, a look at a classic Wizards-Nets game from yesteryear.

This is a random game from 1989 that the Bullets won, 124-121, in overtime.  Some facts on the game.

  • The Bullets trailed by 19 in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth before closing the game on an 18-5 win to snatch away the win.
  • Ledell Eackles was then a rookie.  His 25 points were a season high at the time.
  • John "Hotplate" Williams played 37 minutes and scored 23 points, taking 21 shots to do so.  Terry Catledge only played 19 minutes.
  • The Bullets were close to a playoff berth at the time, but came up short in the end.

GO WIZARDS!

I'd say twice that if Jeff Van Gundy is involved in any way

On the bright side

Tubby Ted using $100 bill after $100 bill to wipe sweat . . .

from his forehead during the game from his court-side seat was perhaps not the classiest move. Judging by the fan reaction from the game, I don’t think the half-time show was really well planned either. People pay to see the players, they don’t pay to see Ted rolling in his mountain of cash at half-court. Although I have to admit the mountain of money that he accumulated was pretty impressive. It’s amazing what a few extra percentages amounts to when it’s only divided between 29 people instead of a few hundred.

Was supposed to be at VC tonight... BOOO!

Anyways… in my imagination, John Wall owns Deron Williams and the Wiz blow out the Nets 109-96. Vesely scores 8 in his debut and Wall does the dougie.

Javale with the circus act again

If he tries to dribble coast to coast again, I am going to scream!!!

Not sure

Lewis plays close to 30 minutes, he’s our best player at sf. That leaves 18 minutes for both Vesely and Singleton.

Crawford plays 15 minutes behind Young and 10 more behind Wall. Booker plays about 12 minutes behind Blatche so unless blatche is splittimg time with Seraphin to spell Javale I dont see more than 10 minutes vor Chriss and Jan

I'd guess somewhere around there, too

I'd say about 8-9 minutes

Especially in the half court, Jan would struggle to get position inside, and would do some chucking from range. That would get old with Flip real quick.. doesn’t matter if it’s the first game.

Agree

Too bad we didn’t have a (fake) training camp to see how these players look after the summer.

He's actually pretty good in getting position in the post

and once there he is quite efficient. Draft Express says this about his postgame:

Another area in which we’re seeing progress is in Vesely’s post-up game. He will always have a size advantage at the small forward position at 6-11, and he’s slowly learning how to use this better. While he hasn’t added much weight to his frame since we last saw him, he does have the ability to establish position reasonably close to the basketball and then just shoot over his opponent. If he can continue to fill out his frame and improve his footwork in the post, this could become an even more dangerous weapon for him down the road.
Not sure how effective he will be against bigger, quicker and stronger NBA players but at SF he should still have the height advantage, even in the NBA.

In the halfcourt he doesn’t really use much touches but he moves very well without the ball. Here is a scouting video from David Locke which shows that . He’ll shoot bricks (only .78 points per shot according to Draft Express) but I don’t think he’ll be ‘chucking’ alot

All in all I think his hustle, effort and endless energy earn him double digits minutes on average but he will have some DNP’s as well.

Don't hit enter!!!!!!

when i am trying to hit shift. Vesely is still in Benihanas in LA waiting for Nick Young to pick him up, so he doesn’t play. Booker takes his minutes and scores 24, grabbing 14 boards and every one is going wild.

Here's a question: Do you guys think we would have won this game?

Matchups:
PG Wall-Williams (Williams)
SG Young-Morrow (Young)
SF Lewis-James (Lewis)
PF Blatche-Humphries (Humphries)
C McGee-Lopez (Lopez)
Bench wizards: Crawford, Vesely, Singleton, Booker Seraphin
Bench nets: Brooks, Farmar, Outlaw, Petro, Jordan Williams
(Wizards)

Note: I think Vujacic is a free agent (not 100% sure) and not re-signed just like Gaines, Gadzuric and Wright (also not 100% sure)

Verdict:
We’re pretty evenly matched (sadly) The homecourt advantage will give our infant team the wings it needs to clinch the victory.

we would have won...

and this would have been Wall’s post summer coming out party…

at least that was my hope

I agree

the psychological blow he got from Kimmy has gotta be tough.

He can’t Hammer Time like OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I dunno man. Humphries was averaging 10+ rebounds per game last yr

7.4 of which defensive, 18 per 40minutes. He averaged 10ppg aswell as a block and a assist in just 28mpg

Compare that to Andray’s 5.4 def.rpg, 8.2 total and 11.6 per 40minutes … while also shooting almost 10% less efficient. I think you win more games with Humpries than with AB to be honest.

Ok, i'm seriously bugging out.

Why am I the only one in the verizon center right now? They moved the season opener to barry farms didn’t they? Figures, those f%#!ers.

Geting it done.

Ted must have classified Barry Farms as a luxury suite

Which means 60% off the top. I guess that’s one way to deal with the BRI split…
